You've got to see this!! 2/5/2009

I wandered by this place with my girlfriends, and I didn't know what it was. Christi wanted to go see a magic show, and I was down with that. We wandered in and this place is the bomb! There's this dude who does a big magic show in the back. We saw it and it was awesome. I liked it when he made his assistant float. I remember seeing some magician do it when I was a kid, and it was so cool seeing it again. more

highly recommend!! 1/22/2009

All of us in our party of 3 agreed it was one of the best plans we ever had. We wanted to do something fun, but were tired of the crazy club scene. There were people of all ages. The show was very entertaining. We were amazed by the tricks, all the magicians were very funny comics and didn't take anything too seriously ( a la david copperfield). Highly recommend this show, especially for a fun night out! Pros: all ages, drinks for the adults, magicians everywhere, food and tricks for the kids more

It's Magic 1/2/2009

How often do we parents get to turn to our kid and gasp, ?How the squid did he do that?? With Santa Monica?s Magicopolis offering a family-friendly version of its popular ?Escape Reality? show on weekend afternoons, the answer is twice a weekend. No offense to those eager, multi-tasking birthday party clowns and their not-so-sleight-of-hand, but the tricks at Magicopolis are popcorn-droppingly amazing. Many are familiar ? from handkerchief illusions to sawing a woman in half ? but professional wow-ist Steve Spill has concocted clever skits, often with his beguiling assistant Eleanora, that add to the drama. ?Impossible!? exclaims Nipper as three rings collected from audience members are linked ? for real! ? and then somehow unconnected by Mr. Spill. And when Eleanora elegantly rises and floats midair above a couch, we?re all believers. Seeing a good magician pull a quarter from a kid?s ear has endured because, if you?re willing to give in to the wonder, even grown-ups can feel like a kid. more

Outstanding magic in a classy venue 12/27/2008

I recently visited Steven Spill's Magicopolis in Santa Monica, California. I thoroughly enjoyed Spill's ""Escape Reality"" stage show. Magicopolis serves-up astounding magic in a classy venue that's one block from Santa Monica's popular Third Street Promenade. Its fantastic stage show offers a deft and entertaining mix of large scale illusions, stand-up effects, comedy and music that will appeal to everyone in the family. There are also close-up shows performed at a new bar. Pros: Easy parking in the lot a couple of doors down. Geat entertainment before the show in the bar and at the magic counter. more

Who knew? 12/19/2008

I've never heard of it and I thought why not go! Well...first I started with some drinks...the bartender there was amazing and he was a magician himself! Ladies...easy on the eyes...and gents...if you take a lady friend watch out, cause he might snatch her away...he gave me a rose made out of a napkin! Yes...he did!!! Anyway...three drinks later....the show must go on!!!! The magic show was great! It was funny and the audience participation is amazing! Kids love it and well I consider myself a big kid so I definitely will go back! I didn't give it 5 stars because one or two of the tricks I saw the secret!!! BUT don't worry...I won't spoil it!!! Pros: Go early and drink at the bar and see some cool up close magic before the show. Cons: I wish they had nachos. more

What a great suprise date 12/18/2008

My boyfriend took me here this weekend as a surprise and I was quite surprised! Never expected going to Santa Monica to find this place. Didn't even know it existed. I love magic shows, and this was one that I really liked. =) It was different from the fancy big special effects magic shows like in Vegas, but also very different from the carnival for elementary school children auditorium break day magician. Pros: Easy parking in the lot a couple of doors down. Geat entertainment before the show in the bar and at the magic counter. Cons: Beer and wine only at the bar more

Great Night, at a Great Price 11/19/2008

I saw ""Escape Realty"" with a couple of friends last night, and it's wonderful. From first-rate close-up to great stand-up routines to some terrific twists on some classic illusions (the levitation of the ""patient"" in the psychiatrist's office in the first act, done close to the foot of the stage, was particularly impressive), it's unlike any full-evening show I've seen. There were far too many highlights for me to touch upon without making this post overly long, but suffice it to say that the show's unique blend of sketch comedy, storytelling and mind-boggling magic had the house laughing and cheering almost from the start. Pros: Great show and even had a magician at the bar before the show Cons: only beer and wine at the bar more

The Old Man 10/10/2008

I'm not the first to say it, but the show at Magicopolis is great for the whole family. I went to the matinee last Saturday with 7 people. The age range was from my mom & stepfather (80 and 86), my 10 year old daughter and her 12 year old friend and my best friend, his wife and my wife (her age undisclosed, but my moniker is ""The Old Man""). Everyone had a fun time. Pros: great fun Cons: no liquor at bar, only beer + wine more

Laughs and Illusion 9/15/2008

My wife and I saw the show at Magicopolis a few weeks ago and we had a great time as I?m sure the others in the audience did judging from their reactions. Pros: Lots of laughs more

What a Blast! 8/26/2008

I took my family to Magicopolis last summer (my daughter is at USC), and it was truly a blast. My kids range from 8 to 18 and they all enjoyed it immensely. The show was hilarious - with a capital H - in addition to being great magic. Afterwards the stars came out into the audience and visited with everyone. It was a great family experience. We would definitely go again next time we're in Santa Monica. My only complaint is that the show is not on DVD so we could take it home with us! Pros: Great theater more

Magicopolis Magic 8/14/2008

Magicopolis has taken the stuffing out of stuffy magicians, the show was better than the one I saw at the Monte Carlo in Vegas and nobody wore a tuxedo. I know nothing about magic, I was nonetheless confident that I could figure it all out, in Vegas I sat about a mile away from the stage but could still see how many of the tricks worked. Pros: Great for family Cons: parking more
