Cool natural formations 10/1/2006

I haven't been to Luray Caverns since I was a teenager, but even back then I thought it was a cool place. That was the first time I learned what a stalactite and stalagmite were. I don't remember much of the tour other than the formations and some colours, but I do remember that they had this "lucky egg" -- it was a part of one of the formations that kinda looked that an egg and if you rubbed it it was supposed to make a wish come true, or something like that. I guess they just wanted a gimmick. I just went on their web site and read something about a stalacpipe organ, but I don't remember that -- guess my teenage mind just didn't care back then. more

underground wonders 8/17/2005

The Luray Caverns is a grand cavernous area of stalagtites and stalagmites - if you don't know what that is, picture a huge cave with rocky formations of long icicles coming down from the ceiling and upside down icicles coming up from the ground. Some are small and small are huge. It's very cool and this tour takes about an hour to go through. There's also a very neat reflecting pool that in the cave. Also here is a field maze that's very small and kind of pricey, so I wouldn't recommend it. Tickets are about $20 and there's plenty of parking. (FYI, there's a Super Walmart down the street ) more
