Let me start out by saying that I have never written a review about a company before. I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and realize that everyone has a bad day. However, I was so appalled by the service I was given all three times I took my dog to this vet that I could not let this go undocumented. more

I had a very sick American Bulldog that was only 8 months old. I originally brought it to PetSmart who had no idea what was wrong with her and tried to charge me for testing and medicines that she did not need. I called Dr. Chappell in desperate need of him to look at her and he did. He was suppose to leave for the day shortly after but found that he needed to perform major surgery on my pup in order to safe her life. He did not charge me an arm and a leg for the surgery and care they gave my dog. He called directly after surgery and answered all my questions. The staff was amazing and super nice to my pup. I really don't give up my doctors especially when I find a good one! I feel obligated to defend Dr. Chappell and give you my take of who I think he is and personal practices. He has a long line of vets in the family which qualifies him on so many different levels. I also know he could have went to a private pet vet clinic but decided to help rescue animals along with house pets. Why do I continually go back? I have been to many Vets across the country and never in my life felt so sure of my cat's well being until I met him. Your pet is #1, he only cares of the facts about your animals behavior! He is in tune to your pet, not you! He doesn't coddle owners but tells the truth and bluntly. He doesn't wear a pure white dry cleaned jacket either so if looks are more important than the health of your pet, this is not the place for you. I highly recommend Dr. Chappell to those who are seeking solutions to questions. He's young and highly educated. He keeps up with the latest treatments. One more little note.,call it pretentious but,my cat has been to the the personal Vet of the dog from the tv show Frazier. They wanted to do $$$$ of surgery on her. Obviously I said No Way but regretted it until I met Chappell. We have never and will never forget this decision because God brought us to SC and Chappell!!!! Pros: Direct. Knowlegable about all animals. Not out for money! Cons: Front desk staff. Blunt when you don't follow his treatment. more

I visited this place two times and was absolutely appalled by the treatment my animals received. After Dr. Chappell spayed my dog, I took her back to get her stitches out. The vet tech had me ""stand"" my dog up, by holding her up by her front paws so that she's just on her hind legs, in the WAITING ROOM while the vet tech cut and pulled out her stitches. My dog yelped once in pain when she got her with the scissors, and the vet tech just growled, ""Hold her up higher and keep her still"". I thought maybe it was just a mean vet tech and gave them another chance. I made an appointment with Dr. Chappell for my dog's yearly shots and examination. A vet tech started giving her the shots, and I asked how come Dr. Chappell wasn't doing this when I made the appointment with him. I was informed that it's rare that Dr. Chappell does the ""routine"" shots and examinations. He just sees them if there's something wrong, even though I paid the same amount of money as if the actual VET had seen and examined my dog. I asked for Dr. Chappell since I had made the appointment specifically with him, and they said he wasn't even there. Needless to say, that blew the second chance out of the water. I NEVER returned again. They obviously treat animals like farm animals and not members of the family. Totally incomptent, and I would never take my animals to these jokers. Ever. I would recommend Dr. Platt or Dr. Buckley at Catawba Animal Clinic. Dr. Chappell's office charged as much for a visit with a vet tech as I pay for an extremely thorough examination, as well as wonderful attention and care by an actual vet at Catawba Animal.
