Bad experiences x3 10/6/2011

Poor service, extremely high prices. After three frustrating visits with my pups I'll never go back . Found a much better veterinary hospital across the street! more

Excellent & compassionate pet care for my furry family members! 3/10/2011

I was looking for a new vet. I researched several facilities for dental services for my recently adopted rescue Springer Spaniels, and LFAH was by far my first choice. I attended one of their Open House Community Days and did a tour of the facility, and was impressed with their dental suite and services. From the pre-dental screening appointment, through out the day of the dental work (which ended up with some surprises concerning my older dog), and all through follow up care, I received exceptional service, quality care, up-to-date information and competitive, fair pricing for the services rendered. Dr. Ami VanDeventer gave me all the options for my two dogs during our initial appointment. During the actual surgery day, she called me several times with updates and options for care when unexpected challenges presented themselves. I felt very cared for and informed about my dog's care, and I really appreciate all the steps all the staff at LFAH (thanks to vet techs Jasmine & Stephanie) more

Great Vet 3/6/2011

I began taking my two cats to LFAH several months ago, and I've had nothing but positive experiences. The facility is clean and modern, and, unlike other vet offices that are cramped, dirty and filled with waiting patients, this one is uncrowded, and I've never had to wait. The staff is very friendly and courteous. Dr, Greg Collins is very caring and knowledgeable, and he and his staff make sure to follow up on the condition of your pet. Regarding the cost, I honestly don't find it any higher than any of the vets I've been to, and I don't feel like Dr. Collins recommends tests that are not needed. This practice is about maintenance, and if you're interested in making sure that your pets, especially older ones, have the on-going care they need, then repeat visits may be necessary. In the last 5 years I have gone through 5 vets who left me unsatisfied for one reason or another, but now I feel like I found a practice that I can trust and recommend. more

Outstanding 2/15/2011

We have had several generations of dogs cared for by Louisville Family Animal Hospital. They provided the most compassionate, preventative care for our aging German Shepherd we could have imagined. Most recently they provided extremely sophisticated, lifesaving care for our acutely ill Border Collie puppy. I would never imagine taking my dogs elsewhere! more

Great vets and staff! 11/20/2010

I have been coming to LFAH for about four years now and have always received the best of care for my two chihuahuas. All of the vets and staff are wonderful, kind, and loving. One of the vets even drove to my house once when I missed an appointment worried that something had happened to me or my dogs. I also feel they would be perfectly wiling to work out financial arrangements for those that had a hard time with making payment. They are exceptional! more

What A Scam 8/11/2010

I went into this vet with a 1/2 price exam coupon and left with a $300.00. They were so pushy about testing and medications that it was difficult to say no. My dog was healthy when I went in and did not need any of those tests. I really felt like I was taken advantage of because of my lake of knowledge. I WILL NEVER GO BACK! more

Guard your wallet!! 7/28/2010

I too think that the costs sway on the high side. I had to take my companion in because I wasn't close to my vet and ran into a bit of an emergency and he was the closest one at the time. Although they were responsive (who wouldn't be to a frantic walk-in) I felt they were over the top and really tugged at one's emotions and generally upsell meds, care and tests.\r I instructed them to send that visit's notes to my vet (took 2 days to put 1 sheet in the fax machine) and they continued to solicit me for business even though TWICE I told them I have a vet - I told them twice to put me on their do not call list) more

Trudy Thomas 6/5/2010

I have been taking our animals to LFAH ever since we moved here 10 years ago, starting in the old location and now in the beautiful new and clean facility. I am very happy with all three doctors, Greg, Amy and Katie. I believe they are experts in animal care and diagnosis. My son and his fiance also bring their animals there and on two occasions the animal had a serious life threatening situation which was immedialey recognised and treated. Both pets are now doing very well whereas if the wrong diagnosis had been made I'm sure they would have died. In each case the pet was brought in without an appointment or even a call ahead, yet the doctor took the time to recognise the urgency and acted upon it without any delay. All the staff seem to be loving and affectionate to all our pets and always give us all the attention we need. I appreciate the professionalism and the certification requirements as well. I want someone knowlegable caring for my loved ones. I always get follow-up more

Excellent Pet Care 5/13/2010

My family has the highest regard for Dr. Collins and the entire staff at Louisville Family Animal Hospital. They have taken care of our pets for 12 years and have helped us through some very serious health issues. Their concern and compassion for our animals have always been evident in their willingness to answer our questions and in the time they take to check our animals' health. Dr. Collins and the rest of the staff are honest and upfront about the cost of procedures and medications. We've always been given a break down of the costs of various procedures and the opportunity to approve medical care. I wouldn't trust our animals' care to anyone else. more

Excellent Doctors and Care! 5/7/2010

I have been taking my animals here for the last 10 years since Dr. Collins was first in practice. I trust all three Doctors with the care of my dog and future pets. I would recommend them to anyone. Their prices can be a bit high, but the care and commitment is worth every penny. The customer service is great. more

Great Vet- Excellent Doctors 5/7/2010

I have been to a few vets around, but never received the care like I have at this hospital. I trust all three doctors opinions and feel they are able to make the right decision. They show me all of the available options and let me choose what works for me. I would recommend them to anyone I know. Pros: Great Equipment and Animal Care Cons: Priced a bit high but worth it! more

Very happy here.. 1/19/2010

I have been a customer of Louisville Animal Hospital for a long time and have had very few, if any complaints. I would agree that they might be just a bit more expensive than others, but the quality backs it up in my opinion. I've tried other vets, but few have provided the same level of compassionate and professional care that I have experienced from Greg and his staff. more

I doubt the negative feedback here represents the majority. 1/2/2010

I've read some of the negative reviews here and find it important to express our appreciation for their services. I even wonder why anyone would put stock in only 6 posted reviews that are of a negative nature, when you know the business has many, many more customers. Sure, the negative feedback here is the majority, but it is usually those (including myself) that have a negative experience that will take the time to post their reviews first. We have been a customer of Louisville Family Animal Hospital for almost 10 years now and have had very few complaints. We found most of their staff to be caring, compassionate, and always attentive to the needs of our pets. Are they more expensive? Maybe.. However, we have tried cheaper vet services and, in my humble opinion, got what we paid for. Some prices were comparable and other prices were a bit higher. These are obviously options that we all have to consider, so simply ask for an estimate if time is permissible, before making an appoin more

Good facility, but expensive, needs to improve response time 3/6/2009

I really have mixed feelings about this place. Good vets, but they don't seem to read each others notes and very slow to follow up with patients families\r 1. My puppy had several bouts of giardia. Vet told me about vaccine and told me if he continued to get it, we should get the vaccine. He got a third bout and they didn't think it was needed, YET(just another round of meds). Well, when he got it a forth time, I called in and told them about the reoccurance, I didn't get a call back for two days (I had to call again!). I had to bring up the vaccine - the other vet didn't look at his history apparently.\r 2.They insisted that for the giardia booster that he must be seen by a vet and could not get booster by tech(2nd shot after it had cleared up). Even though I told them it had cleared up and he was no longer suffering symptoms, they wanted to gouge me for another Vet consultation.\r \r I am so tired of their slow response to this, too. It took 4 days for them to resolve this issue. (still more

A Fair and Honest Veterinarian 2/25/2009

I read the other reviews here and felt compelled to communicate my experience. My exam and shots last month was only $74. I am not sure what the other person had done but he must have had several pets looked at. This hospital is super clean and the people that worked there were very nice and thorough. We were treated with respect by the doctor and are planning to get blood tests done soon. I have taken both my pets here and feel very comfortable with the care I received. Dr Coolins and VanDeventer are truly the best veterinarians we have ever had. A great place with empathetic and honest care. more

Over Priced Vet 1/30/2009

I have never felt so ripped off by a vet in my life. Every time we take our animals, they can't figure out a proper diagnosis, so antibiotics and typical tests for $500. Time to find a new vet. Pros: Nice office, well equipted Cons: no value for your money, improper diagnonsis more

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ 1/14/2009

I have to agree with some part of all of the previous reviews. The hospital is clean, over priced and understaffed. I could not believe how expensive my bill was! No one told me what to expect when I checked out (over $350.00 for routine exam and vaccines!). When I called to complain to the owner he woulden't take my call and refered me to an office manager that seemed like she could care less. I have found another veterinarian and had my records sent over. Bye bye Louisville Family Animal Hospital. I will never return. more

Exceptional Service and Care 10/14/2008

When we arrived in Louisville with our pets finding a Veterinarian was a huge priority. We found this hospital on the American Animal Hospital Website. Our experience was wonderful. Dr Collins and Smith answered all of our questions and even answered some we did not think of. They explained and gave us many options for our pets needed dental work. The hospital was clean and inviting. The staff gave us a tour and we were surprised at the equipment we saw. All in all we were treated with great respect and would strongly recommend this hospital to anyone. In fact we have already told several of our friends. This is a first rate place! more

Low quality of care/too busy for my pet 9/14/2008

Apparently this "hospital" (?) has an increase in clients, but not adequate staff to keep up with the business. As a result I've been increasingly disappointed with the lack of quality care and lately I've felt rushed through and then faced with extremely high charges for this type of care . I can't in all fairness recommend this place and maybe they can learn from reviews like this. I've found that here are many other high quality care vets in the area with more competitive charges. more

Expensive, Poor Value 6/25/2008

I was shocked at how expensive this place was. This is no special veterinary hospital. Located in your run of the mill strip mall, they offer nothing that justified their prices. On our first visit we saw Dr Greg Collins and felt all he wanted to do was gouge us for as much money as he possible could. On our second visit the vet we saw explained many of Dr Collins recommendations were completly unnecessary for a dog as young as ours. My advise is to look at other vet hospitals, we have since found one that has great staff and acceptable costs more
