consistently mentioned as a Top 5 BBQ place in Texas 11/8/2010

Darn if I don't believe this is the BEST sliced brisket anywhere! Get it from the fatty end and it will not disappoint. This was only my 1st visit, but I still say I have not had better sliced. more

Not worth the drive but the ribs were good 2/4/2009

We took a day out for a long lunch from work one day so I could experience ""real Texas BBQ!"" Well I didn't like it so much. The sausage was like eating smoke and some other odd flavor and the sauce on the tables looked (and tasted) like drippings of fat. Yuk. The ribs were exceptional, I have to say I enjoyed those quite a bit. more

Not worth the hype! 7/29/2008

I went to Mueller's after watching Food Networks Diners Drive INS & Dives. To say I was disappointed is an understatement, the drive is long the parking is terrible since my dining companion is in a wheel chair the parking lot is not very wheelchair friendly. Down to the food the brisket was tough and dry not tender at all and there is no flavor to the meat salt and pepper just don't cut it on cuts of meat like a brisket. The sausage was another disappointment I could not tell the difference between the regular and chipotle. The sides were ok but when I eat BBQ the sides are not the main attraction for me. The ribs were juicy and tender just lacked any real flavor other than smoke. I like the Smokey flavor of smoked meats but it should also have some flavor from spices not over powering but a nice balance. And if I need sauce to create a better flavor then it is not good BBQ to me, I like to eat my BBQ without sauce lets me know just how good the pit master is. I hope that I was there on an off day and would be willing to try again but not willing to make the drive for the fun of it, if I am in the area I would give it one more shot. I am not a competing business and I am a born and raised Texan, but I know that eateries at times have off days and hope this was one of them and that it was not a fluke just because they had a celebrity in the house. Pros: Nice People Cons: Long Drive, Not a good place for people in wheel chairs. more

best bbq in america. period. 6/20/2008

The guys writing negative reviews are either one of two things. Either they aren't from Texas and don't know what real bbq is. Or they are competing bbq owners and are jealous of Louie Muellers. This place is the best I've ever had, and I've tried almost everything. Do yourself a favor and disregard the negative reviews because you will miss out if you don't try this classic American institution of fine Texas BBQ. Pros: cool legit atmosphere, great food, great people, cold drinks Cons: its in taylor more

WAS EXPECTING SO MUCH MORE 6/22/2007

AFTER CHECKING OUT THE REVIEWS (TEXAS MONTHLY, CITY SEARCH, WORD OF MOUTH) I DECIDED TO MAKE THE LONG TRIP OUT TO TAYLOR AND PICK ME UP SOME OF THIS WORLD FAMOUS BARBEQUE. I WAS SO READY TO BITE INTO SOME MOIST BRISKET AND TRY SOME OF THERE FAMOUS SAUSAGE AND DIPPING SAUCE. I WENT OUT AND SPENT A LITTLE UNDER 40.00. I GOT: 1 POUND OF BRISKET (7SLICES), 1 POUND OF BEEF RIBS (2 RIBS) A 1/2 POUND OF PORK RIBS (2 RIBS) AND 4 SAUSAGE LINKS (2 REG, 2 CHIPOTLE). MY BOSS AND I WERE READY TO HAVE US SOME GOOD EATS! THIS IS WERE EVERYTHING WENT WRONG... THE BRISKET WAS FLAVORLESS AND WAS CHEWY AND TOUGH TO EAT. THE BEEF RIBS HAD SO MUCH SEASONING IT WAS NEARLY INEDIBLE. IT WAS TOUGH AND PRETTY DRY (I DIDN'T EVEN FINISH IT, IT WAS A WASTE OF STOMACH SPACE) THE PORK RIBS WERE DECENT AND HAD A GOOD TASTE BUT WASN?T ANY BETTER THEN YOUR LOCAL: BILL MILLERS, POK-E-JO?S, RUDYS... THE SAUSAGE WAS MUELLER'S LAST CHANCE TO REDEEM THEMSELVE. I WISH I COULD SAY IT WAS GREAT BUT AGAIN WAS DISAPPOINTED WITH AN AVERAGE TASTE. AT LEASET IT WAS EDIBLE. I'M GLAD I MADE THE LONG DRIVE SO I COULD TELL YOU MY STORY AND SAVE YOU ALL THE GAS MONEY AND DISAPPOINTMENT. Pros: GREAT FRIENDLY SERVICE, COZY ATMOSPHERE Cons: SMOKEY INSIDE, DRY TOUGH MEAT, INEDIBLE SEASONING, LONG DRIVE! more

Best BBQ in Texas 6/8/2007

My husband and I just moved back home to Texas after his military career. We just couldn't wait to get home so that we could have some Texas BBQ. We tried those new BBQ chain joints in Austin when we first got back and were not impressed the least bit. Then when we just happen to find Louie Mueller's, we felt at home as soon as we walked in the door. The BBQ was great and it gives you the hometown feel ! Pros: Great Food more

Loui8e Mueller Barbecue 8/6/2006

I don't know what the first reviewer was thinking when he didn't recommend Louie Mueller Barbeque but hey, this is the BEST BARBEQUE IN TEXAS! I moved to New Orleans in the 90's and on the way back to Austin I make a special trip to Louie Mueller barbeque. The brisket is sumptuous and the best anywhere. The ribs are to die for. I don't eat a lot of sausage so I can't rate it. Pros: Great food and a a great value for the buck Cons: I cain't think of any more

Somethings wrong 5/21/2006

Not sure what's going on. Read so many sterling reviews about the barbecue. Highest rated barbecue from Texas Monthly. Ate there this weekend. People behind the counter could not have been nicer. Sausage link good, nice flavor and spice. Beef rib tender and juicy, very little flavor. Brisket, maybe the worst I've eaten. Tough, could not tear apart, had to cut it. Not chewable, dry and flavorless. Side of bean just boiled pintos, tasted like a boiled bean. Don't forget, there is no sauce, just a cup of beef juice to dip the meat into. Glad to have made the journey, now I don't have to go back. Pros: friendly service, hospitable, good links Cons: flavorless bbq, tough meat more

Gotta get the sampler piece 9/15/2003

Don't let the smokey ceilings and tar covered windows scared you, Louie Mueller's is probably the best restaurant in Taylor...period. The food is good, but the best part of the experience is the Taylor hosipitality. Every customer gets a free piece of sample meet which you can't pass up. If you're in Taylor, you need to stop by to expereince it for yourself. more

One of Texas' best! 1/8/2003

This is Texas BBQ at it's finest! When you have eaten this meat, you learn what BBQ is really all about! Pros: Brisket to die for., Other meats good, great value Cons: Hot is summer, cold in winter, sometimes runs out more

Meat lovers Delight 1/8/2003

I have tasted B_BQue at eight of the top 10 places listed on your top 10 and only one other compares to the wonderful tasty B-Bque that can only be found at Louie Mueller's, come and taste for yourself, you'll come back for more!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: relax atmosphere, plenty of sitting, good parking when dry Cons: muddy when wet more

Worth the Drive 12/5/2002

Best ribs around. You are given a little sample of brisket while in line deciding what to order. Served on butcher paper with a great bar-b-que sauce. more

A Texas Tradition. 11/9/2002

For the greatest tast In real slow cooked on the range Bar-B-Q, You can`t beat louie`s, I teethed on Louie`s mutton and rib bones, I now live in Yogoslavia, But When I land in Austin I head straight to Taylor and Louie Muellers. Pros: Great Food, Reasonable prices Cons: Sometimes smoky more

LONG LIVE LOUIES 9/5/2002

This is the best BBQ in the nation as far as I am concerned. How can anyone in their right mind put Louie Muellers behind Pok-e-Joe's and Rudy's (unless they were given free meal coupons or something for the promotion)? Louie's is the epitome of BBQ. Just going into the place makes you feel like youre going into a different era. The smokey walls, the small town people, the incredibly good BBQ that isnt overtly trying to cater to the ultra pretentious. Where else can you go eat BBQ within 100 miles of Austin and see people ride up on horses to stop by for some brisket (which is the most tender I have ever tasted)? Louie's is Americana at it's best. Louie's is Texas. Pros: Inexpensive, Atmosphere, BRISKET Cons: a bit of a drive more
