My family and I have been going there for the past two decades. The service and food have become quite a disappointment over the years. It is not the same place that it once was. ...

POOR SERVICE AND BAD STEAKS 10/15/2009

THE STEAKS AT LITTLE RED BARN ARE HORRIBLE. THEY WERE SERVED COLD AND VERY THIN. THE WAITRESS WAS HORRIBLE AND WE HAD TO KEEP ASKING FOR TEA REFILLS. THE DINING EXPERIENCE WAS NOT ENJOYABLE. Cons: POOR QUALITY OF STEAKS more

I'll never go back! 7/15/2009

We have not been to LRB in quite a while. We go bc the in-laws like it. It was always mediocre, ok food. Not anything special, but no particular complaints. more

Thank you for an enjoyable dining experience! 7/10/2009

It was so nice not having to wait in line, or outside, before being seated. As soon as we entered, we were escorted by friendly employees to our table with a nice cool salad. The food was extremely good, and the price was reasonable for a family dining out. Pros: Immediate Service: Great Food: Courteous Service more

Consistantly Good 7/2/2009

In today's economic atmosphere, you really can't beat LRB. I enjoy walking in and upon seating have my salad right away. The range of the menu speaks volumes, all with modest prices. I am stuck on the Fried Pork Chop, best deal in town. Thank you staff at LRB, keep it up. I highly recommend, best value for the dollar. Pros: Great Service & Great Prices more

good place for great steaks. 6/3/2009

I think little redbarn needs to upgrade the restraunt. with plasma tvs. for the spurs games. and entertainment. and video games for the kids.i love eating their but sometimes want to wacth, a game eating my steak. and drinking. a few beers please upgrade this lovely restraunt. Pros: best damm steaks"" Cons: like it more

Not what I expected 3/20/2009

Just didn't like it. I have eaten hear many years ago and seemed quaint at the time. It has lost its luster as far as I am concerned. I won't eat there again unless I am forced to go, like this last time for a company party. Cons: decor, price, food quality more

Good Steak at a Great Price 2/13/2009

I have enjoyed Little Red Barn for many years. I will agree that the food is not the quality it once was, but it is still a very good steak at an excellent price. Several things have changed over the years, the head cook ""Mingo"" has passed, but his son Bobby still makes a delicious steak. Mr. Hernandez has turned the running of the business over to the children and they are making progress, but again it is change. All in all it is a good steak at a great price. I bring family and friends here several times a year and we have yet to have a bad experience. The southside is proud to have a long standing business that still stirs things up during rodeo week! Pros: Lots of Parking, fast seating, salad, and bread - can do it on the lunch hour. Cons: Tea is not the best tasting more

What's the opposite of ""Comfort"" Food? 2/9/2009

I've gone to the Little Red Barn for a little over 10 years. The place used to be quintessential Texas/San An. Nothing fancy, but solid grub. However, the quality of both the food and the service are slipping fast. Perhaps it frustrates the staff that the food is deteriorating and all they can do is not care about the situation since they have little control over it. Pros: If you like red and barns this place rocks, if you don't ... Cons: Food quality has plummeted and service is right behind. more

A wonderful, great tasting meal every time! 2/8/2009

The Little Red Barn is a great place to get delicious steak and prompt service at a reasonable price. My family has been several times now, and we have been surprisingly satisfied at the end of each meal. Our waitresses have been attentive to our needs, refills on drinks, and asked if our steaks were cooked to our liking. Each time our steaks have come out juicy and flavorful. We highly recommend this restaurant, especially on your birthday! more

NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE! =0( 12/13/2008

My family and I have been going there for the past two decades. The service and food have become quite a disappointment over the years. It is not the same place that it once was. Management needs to make some major changes or else my family and I will not be returning there anymore. We honestly prefer going to Texas Roadhouse instead and rarely go to the Little Red Barn anymore. Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: Poor quality food and poor service. Not what it used to be. more

Wonderful Texas Treat! 11/5/2008

This is one of the best places to enjoy a Texas size steak, even chicken fried, with wonderful service & and a great western atmosphere. I have been eating here for over 20 years and have never been disappointed. Great place to bring your out-of-town visitors. more

SO DISSAPOINTED 11/4/2008

I'VE BEEN GOING TO LITTLE RED BARN FOR OVER 20 YEARS. I USED TO THINK IT WAS THE BEST PLACE FOR STEAKS. I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MUCH THE QUALITY HAS GONE DOWN. I KNOW THE OWNERS PERSONALLY AND I'M VERY DISSAPOINTED WITH THE QUALITY OF THEIR RESTAURANT. I'VE BEEN READING THE REVIEWS AND IT SEEMS THAT EVERYONE COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME THING. HOW POOR THE RESTAURANT HAS BECOME AND THE POOR QUALITY OF THEIR STEAKS.. I DON'T GO TO OFTEN, BUT WHEN I DO, I KEEP HOPING THE STEAK WILL BE BETTER THIS TIME, BUT SADLY I AM DISSAPOINTED. I'M WONDERING IF NANCY OR MARISA, OR THEIR PARENTS READ THIS REVIEWS, BECAUSE THEY DON'T SEEM TO IMPROVE ON THE STEAKS. SAD TO SAY THERE ARE MORE BAD REVIEWS THEN GOOD. OH ,AND THE PRICE FOR THE EXTRA CONDIMENTS IS RIDICULOUS! Pros: NOT EXPENSIVE Cons: TOUGH STEAKS, CONDIMENTS EXPENSIVE. NO WAY TO REST YOUR BACK, ICE TEA ALWAYS WATERED DOWN. more

cute and tasty! 7/12/2008

This is one of my favorite places in San Antonio. Good food at great prices and a cute Texas atmosphere. You can't ask for more then that! I believe there is even enough choices of sides for a picky eater. more

Terrible service 6/1/2008

My family has eaten at Little Red Barn Steakhouse for over 20 years. On our last visit we, we had the worst service. As is the typical protocol at this restaraunt, when you arrive and are seated you are given a salad. We waited 15 minutes before our waitress, server #10, Rosalinda came and took our beverage and food orders. By that time we had finished our salads. (We also noticed that she took the order of a family that arrived after us!) Additionally, she rushed to take our orders and was rude. When she returned with the bread rolls, she did not pick up our empty salad bowls and instead placed the basket of bread rolls on top of the salad bowls and left an almost empty pitcher of tea. When our plates arrived, side items were placed on the wrong plates and we ended up switching them out ourselves. Finally, she never came to check on the table or refill our drinks; she simply left the receipt on the table. Needless to say, she did not recieve a tip from our $60 bill and we voiced our complaints to management, they shrugged it off as ""we were really busy tonight."" Hence, the writing of this review. Be advised of the poor service! Pros: Very casual Cons: Poor service, rude waitress more

Unpretentious and Satisfying, Well Worth The Trip 3/29/2008

You can't go wrong at the Little Red Barn. Wonderful environment, especially for large groups or noisy kids. It's cute to see the waitresses, some of them pretty plump, proudly wearing their little cowgirl uniforms. All of this however, is just icing on the food. place is unpretentious, comfortable, and the food is great.. I always order the chop steak, well done, with fries. I love the thick, golden crispy (never greasy) fries. The place gets packed and the family that owns the place loves owning the place and thus takes pride in the quality of their restaurant. If you are into liver and onions, this is probably going to be the BEST liver and onions you'll find in San Antonio (according to my usual dinner companion). Margaritas are small, but strong, definitely worth having. Unlimited bread brought to your table, delicious with the Land O Lakes real butter on the table. Name-brand condiments at every table, and plenty of tea refills (they usually leave a pitcher at your table). If you haven't been there before, a word about the location because newbies often get lost. You take IH10EB (towards Houston) and get off on Pine Street Exit. Then turn right at the stop sign and go down two blocks and you'll see the Little RED Barn on the right side. Enjoy! Pros: Unique, Fun Environment, Solid Menu and Portions, Very Satisfying Cons: Gets Packed, Bathroom is Small, Location in more

Older than me 3/8/2008

This place is older than I am. And there is a reason they are still around. Great steaks at a great price with great service. If you are looking for a good Texas steak with out any uppity put ons. This is your place. Prices are great. You won't be disappointed. more

Nice family atmosphere, and good fast service. 2/5/2008

So, I have been going to LRB for around 12 years, and it is okay. As soon as your seated, cold salad & bread a brought to your table promptly. The awesome wait staff has the coolest uniforms! Great friendly atomsphere, & fast service. I would love for the steaks to improve just a little. I order my steak, and after taking two bites, it is cold. There is nothing worse than a cold steak. I have to say...this happens to me EVERYTIME. I have to compliment them on their fried shrimp, it is excellent! They should also consider, not charging 65 cents for the condiments for a baked potato....shame on you! :( I do recommend trying this restaraunt at least one time....they have margaritas too!! :) more

Needs to improve before it becomes a hasbeen!! 11/9/2007

This restaurant has always been THE birthday restaurant in our family especially since they used to have a 25% discount for up to 6. Now the discount is only for 4 in your party...still good though. Over the years, the quality of the steak has decreased dramatically!! It's almost as if the cooks don't know a porterhouse from a ribeye. When my family and I go, we all order different steaks, and when they come to the table, they all look exactly the same...and what's with the baked potato toppings costing $0.65 each...craziness. Pros: cheap decent steak, fast service, Cons: low quality steaks, bad neighborhood (don't get lost when you leave) more

Only Steakhouse on the Southside 2/8/2007

I've been a customer of The Little Red Barn since 1965, when it was virtually just a shed next to a Shamrock Station and some club (the Players?). Back then it was a great steakhouse up until the late 80's. Since then it seems more of a lucky day with the T-Bones I always order; salads are still great, tho. I just wish they could go back in time when the restaurant was smaller and the steaks were juicier. Pros: Parking Cons: Have to catch the restaurant on a good day more
