Great Bar in Pacific Heights 7/26/2003

This place is a hidden jewel in the city. The drinks are great, the service is remarkable, and the place has a great crowd on the downlow. The free hor dourves are a great bonus and the amount of good looking men, as well as women will have me coming back. Pros: fresh juice, lounge feel more

party central in pac heights 7/3/2003

I recently threw a going away party for a co-worker at the Lion Pub. When I called, they told me they'd have a special cheese platter set up for the party. I didn't think anything of it until we arrived to smoked salmon, five types of cheese, and the most fresh guacamole I've ever seen in one place! All for free! Thanks go out to the bartenders for their amazing fresh-squeezed screwdrivers, and whoever made that amazing guacamole, all I can say is wow. I'm throwing all my parties there from now on. Pros: fresh fruit, fresh faces, unbelievable snacks Cons: parking more

surprise surprise 6/5/2003

I've always thought of the Lion Pub as an chill after-work spot, mostly for the classy cheese platter and perfect Goose martinis. However, I was there last Friday night for a friend's birthday and was amazed at the scene - the place was packed with hotties! What got me most was how quick the bartenders got to everyone. I never thought of the Lion as a late night spot but now I know better. Gotta love those fresh mojitos... Pros: beautiful women, quick service, friendly crew Cons: no dj? more

Very Cool Spot 3/12/2003

I was at the Lion the other night, and realized as I looked around, that this was the best group of good-looking people I had been around in a long time. It made me feel very hip to be part of it, which is no mean feat for someone like me (over 40). The bar itself is lovely, too, with fresh flowers and the fireplace. The hors d'oeuvres are excellent. Of course I'm biased because the owner is my friend, but this is just a great place. Pros: fresh flowers, fireplace, friendly Cons: parking can be tricky more

Cheers! 1/29/2003

This is my favorite bar in the city. I am so glad that I have friends that live in Pacific Heights, so we can walk to our favorite place to hang out on the weekends. The atmosphere is so inviting, the drinks are great (they even make mojitos!), the staff is very friendly and inviting, and you can't beat the good-looking singles who frequent The Lion. This is definitely the place to go with your friends or a date to have a great time. Next time you are there, ask for a greyhound or a mojito, they make the best in the city. Pros: Complimentary Snacks, Singles, Fresh Squeezed Juice Cons: No Dinner more

perks of free food 12/22/2002

not a bar i would normally go to, due to the lack of dancing and the older ""yuppie"" crowd. the mix of people was refreshing and the drinks were reasonably priced. moljitos were a pleasant surprise because not many bar serve this drink. the free food platter of chips, crackers, cheese and dip was a definitely plus and gave me something to do/eat. i just wonder about the cleaniness of the communal food. Pros: free food, mixed crowd, inexpensive Cons: crowded, lack of seating, loud more

fresh drinks and free food! 11/9/2002

Squeeze all fruit juices in drinks right in front of you(except pineapple), make great mojitos, bartenders are o.k., but too cocky. They have a great food platter w/ cheeses, crackers, dips, spreads, olives, FOR FREE!!!! It gets really crowded from about 1130-close on weekends so arrive early or go on a weekday. Sometimes have a DJ, and sometimes is a cover. I'm glad to have this place in my neighborhood---very unique and cozy Pros: freshly squeezed, delicious food, fireplace Cons: little pricey, super crowded at time, cocky bartenders more

Interesting and cozy 11/6/2002

Definitely one of the more ""interesting"" bars in the city. Diverse crowd, good drinks (they squeeze oranges right in front of you for screwdrivers and other o.j. drinks), nice staff. They have a fireplace that makes it cozy. Can be a bit odd feeling sometimes, and can get Marina style crowds on trolleys in to check out the crowd, but overall a good place. Pros: staff, DRINKS, coziness more

The Lion Roars! 9/16/2002

This place is awesome! The place is set up like the the inside of a ski lodge - complete with a fire place! Which is a killer idea for those cold San Francisco nights! The crowd is a little on the trendy/yuppie side but overall it is a very cool scene! There were a few chumps striking out while I was there but for the most part everyone was very cool. The bartenders are very fun and friendly. It is a good place to go and just talk with people, yet it is a little bit more wild than the average bar. Overall, this place rocks! Pros: fun, up-and-coming, warm Cons: a little spendy more

Fabulous bar! 8/28/2002

I love the Lion Pub! This bar is plush and inviting and the drinks are great. I was reading some other reviews, and I really dont understand some of the negative comments. The bartenders are super friendly and have easily handled the crowds. The drinks and service are definately quality and the crowd is fun... I have met some really cool people. I love this place! Pros: Great ambiance, good drinks Cons: No parking more

Hidden Jewel 8/27/2002

The Lion Pub in Pacific Heights is truly a hidden jewel. The after work atmosphere is implicitly inviting. And the weekend crowd is the most diverse and captivating singles scenes I've come across. Guys and Gals, this is the place to be! Pros: Atmosphere, People, Refreshing more

Cocktails and Dreamers! 8/23/2002

The inside of this bar is nice and the drinks can be good, but it is filled with a crowd that wants to act like they own the apartment buildings they live in. Apparently, trust funds are on the house in this bar. On the 2 occassions I have been here the bar was crowded and the bartenders acted like you should take a number while they made their freshly squeezed drinks - at no fever pace I might add. Excuse me for drinking. I made a comment about the slowness and the bartender wanted to fight me. Horrible, horrible service. Dont expect to rock out, everyone sits by the fireplace and acts lame. Pros: Decor Cons: Bartenders attitude, stuck up crowd, slowness of service more

What a place! 8/19/2002

Last night after work I headed over to the Lion for what I thought would be a quick drink... my coworkers and I ended up relaxing by the fire for hours. This bar has an awesome atmosphere-- classy, but not even a hint of stuffiness. Drinks were good, the bartenders were sweet, and the crowd was chill. I think I just found my new favorite bar. The Lion Pub is a place that absolutely needs to be experienced!!! Pros: Fresh sqeezed juices, Fire place more

A fresh bar, freshly squeezed 8/11/2002

My favorite drink has always been the greyhound - grapefruit and vodka. I almost couldn't believe my eyes when I walked into the Lion for the first time a few thursdays ago and saw the old fashioned metal juice squeezer reigning on the bar. The difference fresh juice makes MUST be tasted. Later, a few greyhounds deep, I went for a fresh lime margarita - another gem. If I wasn't already impaired ;) I'd probably call it the best margarita I've had. I'll have to go back and give it another try. To sum up: dang, this bar is fun. And FRESH. Pros: huge cheese platter, fireplace, FRESH GREYHOUNDS! Cons: parking, parking, parking more

Fire Balls 8/10/2002

Real flowers, plants, and fireplace makes this bar one of the best bars in Pacific Heights; seeing the bartenders blow the occaisional fire ball is pretty cool too. more

Great Fun 8/9/2002

Great fun to see the bartenders squeezing every greyhound and screwdiver I had to drink the other night. I cant drink those in any other bar in the city. If you go, go for that reason alone. Fresh JUICE!!!!!!! Pros: Fireplace, Cheese, Fairly Priced more

place to chill. 8/3/2002

This is a cool little place to chill out. Lots of eye candy on my night. Wish they had some DJ's like the bar Wish (soma). Pros: service, laid back more

The Lion Roars 7/8/2002

An excellent nieghborhood bar! The bartenders are super friendly and down to earth. A fireplace makes it a good place to chill on those cool San Francisco nights. I dig it! Pros: hip, friendly, fun Cons: small more
