I recently visited our state capitol Springfield,Il. After visiting the state capitol building we went to see where Abe Lincoln's home used to be. This restored home as well as a number of other historic homes are located about a mile away from the capitol building. The tree lined street that features these homes cannot be driven on, only walked on and is sectioned off. You can park in the lot of the visitor's center and head inside for brochures, maps etc.. They are extremely welcoming here and will offer to give you a guided tour of the homes, show you an educational film or give you directions. They also have a gift shop.
