Walk Pass this Place 7/31/2010

Not very impressed with the menu, the service is very mediocre and the overall vibe was kind of depressing. Cons: Menu is not good more

Bad food, good service 4/4/2008

My girlfriend and I went here to celebrate a work achievement. The server promptly came over and was very attentive all night. We started with the shrimp and octopus cheviche salad. The middle of the shrimp was still grey and very rubbery, I couldn't even eat it. The dressing was very good though. For the entrees, My girlfriend ordered the seared ahi tuna and I ordered the Steak frites. The tuna had bands of fat running through it that we ahd to pick through to get a decent bite. The steak frites was the worst steak i have ever had. The plate was just fries, ""homemade katsup"" and a piece of meat, no sauce, just meat and fries. The steak didn't seem like it had been seasoned and was completely charred on the outside. It had no flavor at all and was very hard to chew (it was supposedly kobe beef but i doubt it really was.) I asked for a sauce thinking it would help with the flavor, but it didn't. I didn't even finish it figuring it would be a lot better in a breakfast burrito this morning. Turns out it wasn't. It was also very expensive for such a sub-par meal. The one appetizer, two entrees, and two beers came out to more than $100 after tip. The service was great, just don't eat the food. Pros: service Cons: food, price more

Waiters Wanted: 12/9/2007

If it weren't for the help, this cozy bistro would deserve at least 3 stars! The food is good, the wine selection varied...but the help...well they need a reality check. I don't know what irritated me more--our waiter's pretensiousness or his ineptness. First, we arrived at 6:30 to an empty restaurant and were immediately ushered to the back of the room to a table next to the kitchen! You guessed it. We don't look hip enough! We're 50-something. When we asked for simple iced tea, we were served a mint concoction that should only be used to exterminate aphids. When we asked a simple black tea, our waiter simply shrugged; it never dawned on him that he could make iced tea from any one of the 7 black teas offered us with dessert. But the topper was when we asked for a dry, not-too-sweet sherry, he suggested one that was obviously sweet; he immediately offered a tasting, but returned, empty-handed, to report that the sherry had a not-to-sweet taste of dates and raisins. HE HAD MADE HIS OWN TASTE TEST AND WAS REPORTING BACK! Ahhh, you got to love a guy who just doesn't get it! He must be the owner's brother! Pros: Good, hearty Bistro food Cons: Inept, pretensious staff more

A new experience since ""reopening"" 11/9/2007

I had heard that they were briefly closed to revamp the menu, so we took the gold line metro and ended up right across the street. We had a great time! It is less expensive than it used to be! My boyfriend got the steak which he LOVED (and he's super picky), it was cooked just the way he likes it. I had the mussels, which were huge and very meaty with a great sauce to dip the bread in that it came with. I also had the Croque Madame (which I came to know while living in Paris) that I enjoyed very much. The dessert was great, ""hot and cold"" and the beer selection was great too. They were out of a couple things but I was still happy with what I ordered! If you have been before and weren't that impressed I'd give it another try, and if you've never tried it I highly recommend trying it! Pros: Atmosphere, Food, Wine List, Metro right across the street Cons: Crowded more

Disaster 9/29/2007

I should have known when I tried to make a reservation and the guy on the phone couldn't find the reservation book. They sat us on a bench (no actual seats), and the bench had no back to it (it was the front glass window!). The air conditioning was blowing like crazy and froze the room and it was so loud, mostly from the people who work there, that you couldn't hear someone who was 6 inches away. The menu has all of 6 items on it! That's it! This place is a joke and I and my friends will never return. Spare yourself the ridiculous prices and the horrendous conditions. Not worth it at half the price! Pros: There is a door that you can use to leave Cons: Everything you can think of or want from a restaurant more

amazing chef and restaurant 7/21/2007

I have been here three times and everytime was a winner!!! I love what Steve Arroyo has done with his restaurants especially Malo. Having heard that he opened up a restaurant in my neighborhood I was very excited. Generally the food is just ok, but here at 750ml the chef really stands out. Pros: food, food, food Cons: why can't he hire a chef like this at Malo more
