Where Minnie Mouse Looks Like Betsy Ross 7/14/2010

Liberty Tree Tavern is my favorite Magic Kingdom restaurant. It is a piece of subdued Colonialism in a sea of amusement park nonsense. Of course, it seems weird to go into a tavern which doesn’t serve alcohol.\r \r There is a wide lunch menu with fish, pot roast, New England clam chowder, and Maryland crab-cakes. The atmosphere is Williamsburg congenial.\r \r I actually prefer dinner, which is ironically a character meal. The layout of the tables allows the Disney characters to freely wander to each child without the usual stampede found at other character meals. I also think Minnie Mouse makes a nice Betsy Ross.\r \r Dinner is an all-you-can eat feast of roast turkey slices, flank teak, ham, pork chops and a great selection of vegetables. There is a limited vegetarian menu and lots of stuff for fussy kids.\r \r The restrooms are upstairs so this is a poor choice for handicapped or very elderly customers. As usual, the prices are resort-oriented.\r \r Pros: Low-key character dinner with American comfort food Cons: Somewhat bland menu, upstairs bathrooms. more

Another Disney World Dining Disappointment 6/23/2005

We KNOW real British and Irish dining fare, having had it over in the U.K. and Ireland, as well as American and Canadian restaurants that focus on that type of food. The Guinness Stew at Rose and Crown was NOT what we expected! The strange spices overwhelmed the stew and made it spicy. Mexican and Indian foods are supposed to be spicy... Guinness stew is not! The fruit and cheese plate was tiny, and absoultely not worth it. On the plus side, service was good, and the drink selection was decent enough. Pros: Beer Selection, Service, Design/Atmosphere Cons: Poor Food, Poor Value, Bad Stew! more
