Really good 9/26/2010

This place has seemed to improve it's food selection and freshness considerably since I first started coming here years ago. Give it another go. more

AVERAGE 2/4/2010

While I found this place to be slightly cheaper than the busier Wongs King down the road, they simply offered less to choose from. Taste was about the same on the dishes they did serve and there is rarely a line to get seated. Its always our fall back if we want Dim Sum and dont want to stand in line at Wongs King. Pros: PRICE Cons: SELECTION more

Atrocious Food, Lackluster Service 10/27/2008

The food as Legin is the most atrocious Chinese food I've had in years and years. I grew up in the SF Bay Area and regularly ate from a variety of established Chinese restaurants over the years. At its best, the food should be impeccably fresh, delicately seasoned and light, never greasy. Legin really missed on all marks with a group of 15. Every dish tasted noticably of grease. Old grease. We all left feeling heavy and bloated. There's no excuse for that kind of lazy behavior. There seemed to only be one server on duty for three large groups. I won't be going back. Don't waste your time. Pros: Ample parking???? Cons: Grease, grease, grease more

Supervisor is a nosepicker! 2/16/2008

The food was great, and service was wonderful and helpful UNTIL I HAD SEEN THE MANAGER OR SUPERVISOR PICK HIS NOSE OUT IN THE OPEN!! I paid the bill and left feeling very unsatisfyied. Pros: hot dishes cooked and served at your table very freindly staff. Cons: did he wash his hands? more

Dim sum is so-so 10/29/2007

Maybe it's because we sat in the smaller room, but we kept waiting and waiting for carts to go by, and then, when they did, we had to try hard to flag them down and give us some food. The stuff we did end up with was fine, but not better than fine, and there was very little variety. I asked about a couple of my favorite dim sum treats, and the waitress would say 'oh, that's coming'. An hour later we gave up and left. Not cheap either. Pros: No wait on a Sunday Cons: Food, variety, cost more

Best Dim Sum in Portland, Period 10/5/2007

A lot of these reviews will tell you Fong Chong, or Jin Wah, are the best dim sum places and even though they are much closer to my home, the drive out there really is justified when I get my Shrimp Har Gao and Sticky rice. The other places just are not as good. the ingredients are better quality and the cooks know what they are doing extremelly well. In fact I never write reviews for anything but Legin really really merits it. Pros: Awesome food. more

Dim sum delight 9/13/2006

Seems to be some debate on how good this place is amongst citysearch reviewers. In our opinion, the dim sum at Legin rivals that we had in Vancouver-the largest Chinese community on the North American west coast. We think it's delicous. And it's served HOT. Maybe if you expect ""Chinese-American"" food, whatever the hell that means, you'll be disappointed, but for a more authentic Chinese fare, I'll just say this...the place is usually packed, with at least 75% of its clientele being Chinese. For me, that's that's a pretty good validation of our high opinion of the place. Pros: Authentic Chinese food served by Chinese servers to an overwhelmingly Chinese clientele Cons: Not "Chinese-American" more

Decent 2/4/2006

Not great but decent, some of the items i've had there are a little greasy and lifeless. I would not recommend it for a date night, but if your in the area and need to eat then its alright. more

Most Overrated Chinese Restaurant In Portland 12/29/2005

Keep me away from this place as far as possible. The hours are on the only good (and somewhat bad) thing since they are open late night. It forces folks with Chinese food cravings to have to settle for this place. Dim Sum is terrible and the dinner prices are atrocious. Most of the Chinese community would have to frown at this place but admire its spacious interior. Pros: Decor, Parking Cons: Food, Service, Prices more

Worst SERVICE and FOOD EVER! 12/17/2005

My friends decided to take me out for chinese food as a welcoming dinner two week ago, which turned into a disaster. From an asian that eats chinese food on a somewhat regular basis the food was horrible and not worth the menu price. The waiter there hardly came back to check on our table after we got our food. We had to repeatedly get up to as for assistance. It seemed like that the waiter was preoccupied with talking on the cell phone while the cashier or manager was busy taking care of her kids the whole time so was probably too distracted to remember that they still had customers. The only times that the waiter and cashier seemed to be doing their job was when you first come in and when paying. It brought frustration to us the whole night and we all agreed to never go back! Pros: parking, location Cons: high price bad food, rude workers, doubleduty-daycare??? more

Our last Legin dinner 10/24/2005

We have gone to Legin for years and alway enjoyed it. Noticed it was not up to par about 3 years ago, but every once in a while we'd go back to see if things were getting better. They never have. Went last week for dinner and it was the worst yet. There were only a couple of other diners besides us in the dining room (which should have been the tip off and we should have left). I guess the server forgot that he had diners - we didn't see him for 45 minutes after he served our food - I had to go find him to get our check. The won ton soup tasted terrible (it used to be great) and the other two entrees we ordered were drowing in some kind of gummy sauce that I don't remember them ever serving. Pros: good parking Cons: food, service, prices more

Culinary Delight 7/27/2004

Legin is a wonderful place for awide variety of Chinese cuisine. The flavors are unmatched in the Portland area. I have had Chinese food all over the United States and outside of China Town in San Francisco, it is tough to find a better Chinese Restaurant. The food is prepared just right! There are a few other great spots here in Portland for Chinese Food, House of Louie being one and the Pan Asian delight, Dragonfish, with it's unique blends, but Legin just has them beat by a smidgen! Pros: variety, service, family atmosphere more

it IS the best in town... 5/28/2004

I've had dim sum at a couple places in Portland, and Legin is by far the best. Sure you have to wait during peak times for a table, but its well worth it. All the food is hot when it should be, it tastes wonderfull, and there is a huge variety. Sure the servers don't speak english very well, but after going a few times I've learned the mandarin names for the dishes. My asian friends recomended this place and I agree with them. Its the best. more

Good God!!! 4/19/2004

Legin is okay if you're getting a takeout roast duck/chicken but if you go there for the dim sum, it's too greasy for authentic dim sum, not to mention that their peking duck is a farce. However, where else are you going to find better dim sum, Wong's King!!! If you go here with low expectations you should be okay but if you've got Asian relatives and you bring them here, they will hate you for it and never trust your judgment in food ever again. However, if you take them to Wong's King you will have redeemed yourself somewhat. Pros: takeout Cons: food more

If this is the best in PDX, 1/21/2004

Then I'll have to stop eating Chinese food. It was pretty bad. Lemon chicken and Sweet & Sour Pork were indistinguishable from each other; tasteless fried puffs with gooey sauce poured on top. Moo Shoo vegetables were okay, with the pancakes and hoisin sauce, but as for the rest, let's just say we were sorry the next day. Pros: location Cons: food, parking, expensive more

zhousu 8/31/2003

I have read the other reviews, and find it frustrating when a restaurant can get a 1 or 2 rating, and then get several 8's, 9's and a few 10's. My wife is Chinese, and she thinks this is probably the best restaurant in Portland. I'm Caucasion, and I liked it OK, but I prefer an American style of Chinese food. This is clearly a Chinese place for Chinese tastes. I think it would help, if a non-Chinese, is accompanied with a Chinese here, to help with the ordering. That way, they should have a more enjoyable meal. Pros: The real thing., Great parking., Caters to Chinese. Cons: Too far away. more

Yummy Chaos 8/12/2003

If you decide to try Legin, go for thier dim sum. The carts whirl by quickly so get what you want while they come around. One word of advice - don't get a lot of noodle/rice dishes - save your appetite for some of their other dim sum dishes. Pros: Great Value, Good Parking, Cultural Experience more

Worth the drive... 11/18/2002

and I'm in Hillsboro. Great dim sum, fresh from the cart, and lots of variety. more

BEST AUTHENTIC CHINESE FOOD IN OREGON 11/15/2002

This is the most authentic Chinese food I have had here in Oregon. I'm from Cali. where Chinese food is very good and authentic. Oregon's China Town is not very good at all. I thought it would be, but I've tried 4 places and they all sucked. Legin is very tateful. if you like AUTHENTIC Chinese food, this is the place to go in OREGON. Pros: Huge Selection, Authentic Taste, Great for Large group more

Not for these tastebuds! 11/9/2002

This place is horrible. The wonton soup was so bland it was like chicken broth. The fried rice WASN'T. The rest of the meal was equally bad. more
