Eight years ago our group of friends decided to celebrate a birthday at Lava Hot Springs. We chose the Lava Hot Springs Inn without seeing photos or getting the opinions of others. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised by the homey atmosphere of the Inn and the grounds. They had a scrapbook of progress that had recently taken place, when the husband-and-wife-owners bought, and renovated the place. The transformation was remarkable. I love the hominess of the Lava Hot Springs Inn and don't have any desire to stay anyplace else in town. It's a great place to come and relax. But if TV is what you want, I guess you could go somewhere up the street. When I go there, I know I'll be able to regroup and get in touch with myself. I guess it's all in your perspective. more

One of my favorite places! The only hotel in town that has it's own hotsprings pools. So you can arrive late and look or get up early and enjoy sunrise. The staff us wonderful and the homemade breakfast - complimentary - is great, more

I can not imagine a more fantastic place to take my friends for the weekend. I have been staying at the Inn as often as I can over the last several years. I have met so many nice people in the pools at the Inn, and frequently find myself running into the same people every time I am there. It has been a great experience and I have made some friends that I see back home in Salt Lake. Though, I travel frequently for work, and stay in some very nice and exciting places, I always feel most comfortable in Lava. When I get time for myself just to relax, and be surrounded by easy going people, I am off to the Lava Hot Springs Inn. I will be the first to admit that the Inn is not a 5 star resort, for those of us who really appreciate some quiet and relaxing time the Inn offers something that a 5 star resort can not. Sometimes it is nice to go somewhere where there are no phones in the room to ring, or where there are few TVs. The innkeepers are great and even though the place is kind of a work in progress, it really makes you feel like part of the Inn to see it change every time that you are there. The only warning that I feel is important is to say that come to the Inn with no expectations. Don't go looking for something that you will not find in a place like Lava and you will have a great time. more

We always stay here during our yearly loop trip to TX and the East Coast. Secretly I come for the train sounds. Peace and quiet plus super water. Pet friendly is a big plus. We travel with out yorkie/ poo. Price is reasonable. Town is great. Pools are great like the variety and temp. Great location for Oregon travelers going east/ west. more

Lava is a ghost town during the off season, as my friends and I found when we visited in October. Pity that because the colder months are a perfect time to soak in the hot springs. This inn and spa has 3 large pools, 2 (Aztec and Therapy) of which the locals regularly enjoy and 1 (The River Pool) that is accessed primarily by guests. The River Pool is the smallest but the most intimate-and it was just gorgeous at night with the leaves of a large tree spilling into the water and the river murmuring alongside the grounds. Our accommodations were large and adequate in this former hospital, but a tad...creepy. Supposedly there is a ghost but other than the weird and slightly smelly vibe I got there was no sign. Our room included a toilet and a large bath...but they were not partitioned off for privacy. And well...a girl like me likes to shut a door and powder her nose privately. That wasn't too much of a problem as their were restrooms just down the hall. The proprietor was very cool and chatted with us about the history and the goings on of the town. Slinking about the place were a couple of ultra furry and friendly cats that were probably the real ""owners"" of the establishment. Great place. Would stay there again and possibly hunt ghosts. more

Their Massage Therapists are wonderful and accomodating. The rooms are clean and comfortable and within a walking distance of every place you may want to go in Lava Hot Springs. The back pool by the river is wonderful with the lights at night it looks like a fairy land and is oh so peacefull. If you like High Tech, plastic and metal with hermetically sealed drink cups, the Inn may not be for you, as they have their dog and cat that have pretty much free reign in the hotel and the hotel staff are polite wonderful people who treat you like family and the Inn is an antique building with tons of atmosphere. I couldn't recommend the Inn more. more

I loved this quaint, historic inn! The best part was the wonderfully friendly, engaged, and helpful staff and owners. The on-site pools are beautiful, breakfast was excellent, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. No phones, no internet, TV only in the lounge--it was a great get-away. We were there on a Friday night, and the other guests were quiet, so we slept well. I can't wait to go back; a wintertime soak in the hot pools would be perfect. more

Our stay at the Lava Hot Springs Inn was amazing! We arrived and checked in with gracious hosts and they personally walked us to the 3 bedroom suite. The place was cozy and very clean. We then decided to go to the hot pools which are free while staying. There were 3 separate pools all of varying temperatures. The pool we stayed in the whole time was a long pool with plenty of room. The atmosphere was so perfect. It was quiet and there was very nice landscaping. We also enjoyed the jet tub in our room which had access to a porch. The hotel is in a very central location so we were able to walk everywhere. Then in the morning, we loved the homemade breakfast. They had pancakes and eggs. All in all this stay was great and the value for what you get it is perfect! We will most definitely stay again. more

If you like natural hot springs this is a must! So relaxing, great service from hosts, cooks, receptionist, comfortable bed. the breakfast was good clean tasting foods. we were very pleased and so enjoyed our stay . hope to return one day again more
