Our first visit to Lauro was for our Valentines' dinner. We were a bit worried after reading some of the reviews here. When we arrived, the hostess made a special effort to sit ...

My husband and I finally made it to Lauro! We had heard great things are were really looking forward to it. Sadly, we were disappointed. While the starter salad rocked (nice Caesa...

Not Worth It 1/24/2004

DISAPPOINTMENT! They dont take reservations and we were rudely told that if they did, theyd be fully booked and we wouldnt even be standing there. If youre lucky enough to find a space at the overcrowded bar for the 1-2 hour wait, the house drinks are a good choice. Theyll help lighten the mood while youre briskly shuffled out of the way by the waitstaff. Appetizers: Mussels, Beet Salad, and Soup were average. Entrees: Steak (very bland) w/fries; Pork Loin w/Fig/Orange/Sauce (overcooked and accompanying vegetables completely flavorless); Pasta w/scallops (blah, yet again). Skip desert there and head across the street to Pix for a real treat. We felt the dining experience was mediocre at best despite the steady stream of people WAITING for a table. A case of the emperor's new clothes?? There are too many far superior restaurants in Portland to waste your time, money and tastebuds at Lauro Pros: Beautiful Space, unusual mixed drinks Cons: Mediocre Food, Poor Customer Service, Long Wait more

Good eats on Division 12/22/2003

Lauro's offers a little something for everyone. There are burgers and fries, pizza for the kids (and of course the adults, too!), and more creative dishes such as the goat cheese stuffed chicken breast with quince sauce served over spinach. Tasty. I've eaten here at least six or seven times, and can honestly say have never had anything that didn't impress me. Just like any restaurant, some dishes are better...more flavorful. Still, the ingredients are fresh and simple, generally making for enjoyment of whatever your selection may be. My ONLY reservation about Lauro is the wait...takes forever! By 6pm, a table for two was a one hour wait. Ridiculous! And...they do not take reservations! Overall, great value on the food, good service, and hey, Pix is just across the street, serving wine and beer while you wait for your table, if you decide to stick it out. Pros: delicious food, reasonably priced, parking available Cons: loooooong wait more

Amazing! 12/16/2003

We stopped in right after Lauro's opened. We had a specialty drink that was amazing! Unfortunately, we already had dinner plans, but decided to come back for dinner another time. The wait can be horrendous, but worth it. The menu is diverse, the wine selection is great, and the staff are great. My meal wasn't exactly what I expected, but was still a tasty entree. We will definitely go back!! Pros: wine selection, menu diversity, Great food Cons: long wait, cramped more

Wowed 8/30/2003

Has it all...great drinks, wondeful selection of food, super service and all at reasonable prices...haven't tried dessert b/c Pix is right across the street! Pros: service, selection, reasonable prices Cons: not open sunday, no reservations more
