Very caring vets! 10/7/2011

I recently switched to this vet from another terrible one in town. I've had my pets in for some routine appointments, had my dog spayed, and had an unexpected Saturday morning trip. Care given has been excellent. I've seen 3 of the vets there so far and each one has been wonderful and is willing to listen to all questions and concerns and discuss options, research, share their honest opinions, etc. Great vet clinic! more

Compassionate and competent 6/28/2011

Have been taking our pets to Lakeside since we adopted our first dog in 1994. Between having a puppy with mange till learning he had inoperable cancer at age 14, he and we were treated with the greatest respect, friendliness and compassion. For those of you who have gone through the loss of a pet that grew up with your child, it affects the whole family. We have two other dogs now, and from checkups to having one spayed and the other neutered, every question was encouraged and answered. In scheduling a checkup for our corgi, I saw some of the reviews and cannot fathom that the clinic being attacked is the same one that so many friend, neighbors and co-workers have care of their family companions, all with only the most positive things to say. \r If we can bring our pets to Lakeside, and have them happy to walk in the door -- pets are a better judge than humans of character, all too often -- and we'll continue working with the vets at Lakeside for years to come. more

A Great Place With Great Staff 1/9/2011

I have two kitties and a 7 month old Great Dane. My clinic in Appleton didn't do the gastropexy I wanted to have done when I spay my Dane, so as a friend advised I took her and my cats to Dr. Popp at Lakeside. From the receptionist, to the wait, and the consult with the Doctor, I was VERY pleased with their service - even compared to my old Vet. As for the people who have complaints about them "refusing service" when you haven't been seen there before and their pets getting infections after surgery.... When you aren't an existing client at a Vet office, they can't just magically pop you into their schedule. They have regulars who MAKE appointments. There are emergency centers for that exact reason. You can't walk into a General Practice doctor and get seen that day...can you? Nope, that's why there's an emergency room...same goes for pets. And for those of you who have had bad experiences with infections...I have worked in the veterinary world (and no, not at Lakeside..my visit there w more

The Best For Our Show Dogs! 11/15/2010

We've been coming to Lakeside's Dr. Herman Schatz initially and now Dr. Todd Schatz for nearly 30 years. We breed Gordon Setters and English Pointers. We show at Westminster, Crufts, the Eukanuba National Championships and the Purina Invitational. My point is that our dogs are very expensive and very loved. We exclusively use Dr. Todd and Lakeside! I love how he is just a no nonsense type of vet who does not sell you un-needed services just to make a buck!\r \r I drive 2 hours (I live in Cedarburg, WI) up to Lakeside for all of my dogs' needs STILL after living here 11 years! My Mom still takes all of her dogs there as well. I've tried going to higher priced vets here in the Milwaukee area to make it more convenient for me only to have mis-diagnosis after mis-diagnosis. I went to Lakeside for my 2nd opinions after seeing these vets and Dr. Todd hit it right on the head every time. He's fabulous!!! If you are looking for someone to coochy coo you and sell you all of the services more

SHOULD BE CALLED BUTCHERS NOT VETS 11/4/2010

LAKE SIDE IS HORRIBLE!!!! I wouldn't let these barbaric animals (ahh, I mean vets/staff) take care of a dead spider on my window. There is a reason why they are sooo cheap, its like having surgery done by the cheaper surgeon and then dying in the process. When my cat needed to get spayed I too went to them because of the "laser" procedure which was supposedly used to reduce pain, infection, and recovery time. Well, low and behold my cat ended up having an infection, her incision opened up and she had to go back to surgery to have it "fixed". So much for paying extra money for procedure that is bull****!!! PLEASE PLEASE if you take anything away from this please don't go back to these butchers. They dont give a crap about animals and as others have said they are rude and never have openings. There are far superior vets in Oshkosh!!!! more

The Best 10/3/2010

My parents and now myself have been going to Lakeside for close to 30 yrs. We started out with Schatz senior and I now go to Dr.Todd the son. I have nothing but the best to say about the staff from the reception area to the workers in back to the Doctors. I just had a scare w/ my Siberian and they were wonderful the whole week he was being taken care of. I probably was annoying them showing up 2x a day to visit my dog, but they only showed compassion. A HUGE shout out to Dr.Todd who let me pick my baby up on a Sunday when they are not even open. I can only praise Lakeside. more

Very happy with Lakeside 8/10/2010

We have been going to Lakeside animal Hospital for over 30 years. My parents started with Dr. Herman Schatz and we currently use Dr. Todd Schatz. We have a purbred Viszla who has had many health issues. Dr. Todd has been most excellent in his care of our Monty boy, even to the point that he has called us on a Sunday to check in on him. we could not ask for a better person to care for our pets. The staff at Lakeside has been very helpful with a few exceptions, and I'm happy ot report that those staff members are no longer there. I highly recommend Lakeside. more

Heartgard Purchased Here! 7/30/2010

I had an appointment for my dog to get a check up/ rabies booster. At the appointment Dr Schatz asked if I wanted a heartworm test preformed, since I did not administer heartgard over the winter months. When I declined, he was upset. He stated that I would not be able to purchase Heartgard from him without the test preformed. I told him that I order all my heart worm meds online, at a much lower cost (at least half price). Now, he was so mad that he physically stormed out of the room without warning. Very childish behavior by a so-called professional. I will not go back to this clinic. And yes both of my dogs are still heartworm-free. more

Negligent 7/17/2009

Lakeside Animal Hospital denied medical treatment for my dog yesterday when I called in from the highway 41 needing assistance with canine vomiting. I'm an Oshkosh resident. The receptionist claimed the Hospital couldn't assist my dog because he was a, "new client" and needed an appointment. The Hospital's approach was negligent at best and I would never take my animal to this location. I see other reviewers have cited the same issue. Perhaps Lakeside should refer to itself as a "spa" rather than a hospital so that pet owners and pets in need know to skip this place. more

Lakeside Animal Hospital - Great Quality & Fair Price 6/30/2009

I switched back to Lakeside about 3 years ago (I have 7 animals). I found that other vets charged almost twice as much and didn't explain procedures as well. Lakeside does distemper shots every 3 years (which has been proven effective) versus other vets who do them yearly. They did 3 orthopedic surgeries on 3 different animals in the past 2 years with great results. They are at 1/2 the cost of other vets (yes, I priced it out!) for surgery. They are busy, but offer hours to meet almost any schedule (Saturdays & late evenings included). The sign of a good vet is the volume of clients that want to see them and are willing to wait. more

Horrible 3/7/2009

I had relocated to the area from Minneapolis. I called because my dog was ill and was asked if I was an existing patient. When I said no, that I has just moved to the area form Minneapolis, I was told I couldn't get an appointment for a month. When I pointed out that my dog was sick today, the receptionist very snottily replied that they have enough problems serving their current clients. What a jerk! Another clinic offered to squeeze me and also offered at-home care tips. It's not that hard to have a little common courtesy and at least offer some at-home care advice. more

great doctors... 2/7/2009

Been clients of Lakeside Animal Hospital for 13 years (3 cats, 2 dogs). Doctors are great, willing to spend lots of time explaining, very thorough and compassionate. Only problems are lack of adequate parking and occasional long waits. I believe some of the long waits are due to the doctors not rushing you out of the exam room, so I honestly cannot complain. I would rather wait a bit to have a doctor willing to thoroughly examine my pet and answer all my questions than to be rushed out the door so they can always keep on schedule. Prices seem very fair - I would definitely recommend this business. more

Disappointing 12/12/2008

I've been at Lakeside for 2 years now. And just now I was forced to reschedule for the 2nd time because they were unable to keep our scheduled appt. The receptionists are really disconnected with the patients eagerly waiting to see one of the doctors. I'm understanding...if there was an emergency I get it. But there was no emergency and all I was told 20 min after my appt time was missed was...well you have 3 cats and 2 dogs ahead of you. and that there excuse was ...well we are busy around noon. As if it's my problem and not theirs? Idiots. I do think the doctors are good...but nothing so fantastic you have to endure the waiting room nightmare more

BIG Mistake! 11/10/2008

Took puppy in to be spayed after realizing this is the only place in the area offering laser surgery.\r \r Staff is very unfriendly, veterinarian has no bed side manner, waiting room is very crowded (long wait also), and 'less intrusive' laser surgery was a nightmare.\r \r Biggest concern was the fact staff didn't take the time to listen to our concerns, almost implying 'it's just a dog'.\r \r Dogs feel pain too!\r \r Opted to visit a different veterinarian for suture removal, even though this was included in the price of surgery. Don't have the heart to put her through the chop-shop.\r \r PS, Spoke to a co-worker whose dog was neutered during the same week. Dog developed a serious infection and had an overnight stay in 'paradise'.\r \r Disappointed every step of the way!\r \r BTW. Our puppy says thanks for the ringworm, Lakeside! more

Exceptional Care and Outstanding Service 4/9/2008

The staff and doctors of this clinic provide exceptional and outstanding service. They have provided medical care to my dogs since 1997. In response to the posting about having to wait before being seen, it just depends on the day. The waiting room is sometimes crowded because clients recognize the quality care given to every pet and owner. Therefore, the clinic has many patients. This clinic is well-recognized within the community and surrounding area. The clinic has extended hours. The doctors are exceptional friendly, listen to clients concerns, take whatever time is needed to care for pets, always return calls the same day, and emergencies are responded to quickly. Of the many veterinary clinics we've utilized over the years, none compare to Lakeside.\r Joan N. more

Happy to have found our new vet 11/20/2005

I was recommended to this vet, so I took our dog there for an ear infection. I was impressed with the hours they were open and time slots still available for the following day. I did have to wait quite some time for our appointment, but the waiting room is very nice despite being rather full. The vet was very gentle with my dog and appeared to be very knowledgeable. The prices were very reasonable. PROS: Expanded hours, great prices, friendly staff CONS: Had to wait quite awhile in the waiting room more
