Amazed 7/3/2010

Took my partner to this cute place for his birthday. Been to this restaurant several times and was always satisfied. Upon sitting down at our table, we were greeted with this rude little mexican woman who slammed glasses of water on our table along with the bread basket. Our waiter would not even look at my dining partner. Did i mention my partner is black. Its one thing to be greeted with a disgusting attitude, but another thing when the individual serving you food your about to ingest is rude and very impolite. When paying the bill, i tried to talk to the owner, I was told that i didnt not have to tip our waiter. Really..seriously?!? I have never been so disappointed and disgusted with the whole experience. I will never eat there again, and recommend you not be dining with black partner. Pros: Food is great Cons: Service is terrible..among other things more

I'd prefer eating the grass in my garden 10/3/2008

First of all, it's too expensive for crappy food. Our salad was almost frozen, obviously pre-prepared, and had no flavor. In addition, our calamari was undercooked, and rubbery. And to top it off, my Sangria was basically ice for almost 5 dollars. Finally, there was a mixup with our check, and we ended up paying way more than we were supposed to. Fantastic. Cons: Overpriced, bad food, cheated out of money more

Good, Solid, Downtown Pizza 8/24/2008

We ordered one pepperoni and one ""lady fantasia"" (white pie with chicken and ricotta) for pick-up. Overall, we were impressed with the quality of the pies. The pizzas are baked in a wood-fired oven. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful. Unfortunately, all pizzas are only available in a 10"" size and there's no delivery service. Worth the short walk to Alamo street! We'd like to see more gourmet pizza options on the menu. We'll definitely order again soon. Pros: Good, solid pies with fresh ingredients and colorful flavors Cons: No delivery more

Just another italian restaurant... 2/14/2008

My colleague and I went there on V-day, since both of us are from Dallas and out of town for business. We wanted to experience something that was considered ""BEST OF"" in San Antonio. I was not impressed by the food and most of all, the dessert. I ordered Minestroni Soup, Cannelloni as entree, and Tiramisu for dessert. The soup was hot and flavorful. I enjoyed that. The Cannelloni was nice. However, I felt that Olive Garden Cannelloni was better. (That's pretty bad to compare this restaurant to Olive Garden, since Olive Garden is more of a chain restaurant.) The Tiramisu was such a disappointment. The cream that surrounds the lady fingers tasted like regular chocolate whipped cream instead of the mascarpone cheese. The lady fingers was very blend, not moist, and I did not taste any coffee/expresso flavor. In between the lady fingers should be layer of mascarpone cheese; however, I tasted what appears to be regular whipped cream. I only took two bites and I had to ask the waiter for the check. The restaurant decor itself appears to be outdated. Christmas lights wrapped around the columns and panels against the walls. They had live music, but more like a one man band show. (A guy playing, what appear to be like organ/keyboard instrument.) I have to agree with few people that mentioned that the restaurant isn't anything to rave about it. The food was mediocre and the atmosphere was odd. Our waiter was nice and the service was average. Pros: Service Cons: Parking, Music, Ambience more

Great atmosphere and service 2/11/2008

We were in town for a cheerleading competition and got this restaurant recommended to us from a waiter at a Riverwalk cafe. It was awesome. The focaccia bread was fantastic. The waiter Joe was super. A piano player was playing in the background and it was very welcoming and cozy. We had the sausage pizza and the spinach pizza with an Italian Rita. My compliments to the chef. We will definitely go back on our next trip to San Antonio. more

Just OK 11/25/2007

We went here after seeing it on ""the Best of"" list. I am really surprised this place was rated so high. The bread was good, but the rest of the food was nothing special. The calamari was chewy, but the breading was light and yummy. The alfredo sauce was more like a macaroni and cheese sauce - very strange. All in all we probably won't be back. The place is cute, and the waiter was very nice, the food is just not anything to rave about. Pros: cute, not a chain Cons: food more

Great Italian 8/18/2007

We went here for our anniversary because my husband heard that they had toasted ravioli. I used to live in St. Louis and good toasted ravioli is hard to find here in SA. La Focaccia's was awesome! I thought their focaccia bread was the best I had tasted. My husband had the chicken parmigiana which was a huge portion and delicious. I had the chicken fettucine and it was great. The sauce was perfect, the only thing was the chicken was a little dry. Overall great experience, would definitely go back! Pros: awesome toasted ravioli Cons: restaurant was a little warm more

Awesome food! 10/15/2006

Impressive food for this eatery! A bit older building, but this should give you absolutely no hesitation as the food is some of the best Italian I've had since leaving Italy. Its relatively cheap and food is fantastic. Pros: Great value, fantastic food Cons: ambience could use work more

JackCheese knows Jack$%&@! 8/5/2006

JackCheese knows Jack%$?@! Since when do restaurants charge the same price for a bottle of vino than what it would cost you in the store? It's called markup, or maybe you fell for a little marketing gimmick. Either way, get over it. Have you ever been out to eat before? I think Fazoli's might be more up your alley Jack! Pros: Ambience, location, food Cons: Nada more

Cheated 4/2/2006

We enjoyed a good meal with a bottle of ""special"" wine, ""cleared from their wine collection. All on sale for $32. We had a bottle of Chiati with the meal for $32 per bottle, and purchased an extra bottle of Marques del Puerto Rioja Crianza 1998 for an additional $32. The Chianti was supposedly $42 per bottle and the Rioja $52 per bottle, both on sale for $32. We checked the price of Rioja on liner when we returned to our room. $12 plus $8 shipping. Even if doubled that would be $24 if the restaurant ordered locally. On sale from $52????? We were going to go back with a large group this week and cancelled due to the wine cost shenanigans!!!! If you go, drink iced tea!!! Pros: Good food Cons: overpriced wine, questionable ethics more

Best Italian restaurants in San Antonio 11/14/2005

I feel that La Focaccia is one of the best places to eat.! I have been going there since I was 17 and I am now 23. In regards to what others have said about it being horrible, they are soooooo wrong. Perhaps they were just in a bad mood that day. The food is excellent! Try the stuffed mushrooms with cherry sauce. The wine is great. Prices are worth it. Service is spendid. I am a very picky eater and pay great attention to service and quality. I do not hesitate to speak up. So when you try and say that La Focaccia sucks, well you are SOARLY MISTAKEN!!! I am a San Antonio Native and I eat everywhere. La Focaccia is by far one of the Best Italian Restaurants in San Antonio, so don't pay attention to rude and over exaggerated comments. I Love La Focaccia!!! Pros: great food, good prices, good service Cons: parking more

This place reminds me of dinning in Italy! 7/17/2005

I lived in Italy for six-months -- La Focaccia has the feel of a rural, privately-owned Italian pizzeria/restaurant that cant be duplicated at the chain Italian restaurants in American today. The tables and booths are not fancy, but the charm and warmth of this restaurant will embrace you as you smell the fresh aromas of garlic and burning wood from the authentic Italian pizza oven. The food is very tasty, very Italian, and the prices are reasonable. La Focaccia is real gem. Pros: authentic food, reasonable prices more
