my friends and i adore the wine bar at le zie! the atmosphere is cozy, warm, and really cute. espcially the window boths. the wine list starts really reasonably, and the food is effing AMAZING. we always order tons of appetizers and chow down. i recomend the meatballs and the goat cheese TO DIE FOR! more

very good food, deplorable service 2/6/2010

We were very surprised when dinner took over 25 minutes and they started to clear the table of silverware, bread, water, etc., before the main course arrived. Dessert took over 15 minutes (biscotti) and we were paying the check when it showed up (we sent it back). No apologies, no explanation, truly negative experience. Pros: tasty tuna, bronzini, spaghetti and meatballs Cons: miserable service, expensive wine more

the worst service 2/6/2010

It was still early, and the restaurant was not very crowded, but we struggled a bit to get our server's attention for the wine order. After that, appetizers, with no problem. Then we ordered the main course. After 25-30 minutes of waiting, the server appeared to politely ask if we wanted to see a dessert menu!. (We'd not yet been served our entrees.) About 15 minutes later we were served, with no apology or explanation. Then, a 15-20-minute wait for dessert. We finally decided to pay the check. Dessert arrived as my husband was signing the credit card bill. We won't be back. Pros: branzino was good - I think Cons: Horrible service, no apologies more

My favorite neighborhood bar/restaurant 3/26/2009

I adore the lounge, with its warm cozy and friendly atmosphere; Paula the bartender is the absolute best -- her martinis are killer. And the food...mmm.. my friends and I LOVE the meatballs and the Mezzemaniche sausage pasta. A real Chelsea gem. Pros: Best meatballs, sausage pasta, and Paula the bartender Cons: Lounge area fills up quickly more

Wonderful Brunch! 3/2/2009

I had brunch here two weeks ago! It was BRILLIANT. Quaint atmosphere, beautiful food and not a huge wait! HIGHLY recomended! I went with my boyfriend and 3 other couples, we were all THRILLED with our meals. Pros: Wonderful food Cons: its a bit small. but we all fit! :) more

Consistently Outstanding Northern Italian Food 1/4/2009

Consistently great food - both dine in and delivery. I've tried nearly half the menu at this point and have dined in total probably 20 times at this place. The fish and pasta are always fresh and well prepared (the penne and sea bass are my faves). Pros: Always great food (The bass entree highly recommended) Cons: None really more

It's all about the food 1/15/2008

We love Le Zie. It's noisy, the tables are right on top of each other, the service is just ok, but the food, the food is wonderful. Their regular menu is very good. The pastas have an authentic Italian feel to them with great ingredients and simple style. Ditto everything else on their regular menu. The real strength of the chef comes out however, in the fine offering of inventive specials which are worth hearing about from the wait staff who will recite them dutifully.I remember a grilled sardine appetizer my wife and I shared there recently that was just wonderful, fresh and perfectly cooked. From the bread they serve with olive oil when you sit to their very nice dessert offerings Le Zie is a place where you can take an Italian and be confident they will appreciate the experience. Pros: Venitian appetizers, magnificent fish, great soups, pastas, food, food, food Cons: Can feel crowded and noisy more

A HOME AWAY FROM HOME! 4/13/2007

For Italians, Le Zie is a home away from home. For none Italians who like to romance and flirt with Italian food, it's a small haven in the heart of Chelsea, in New York City's Manhattan. This treasure is warm and inviting. The menu is decorated with a display of Venetian recipes that you will talk about for days, and the wine list offers a selection of colorful wines that will satisfy everyone?s palate and most of all it is truly a very affordable place to lunch or dine with your loved one or some friends. If you?re lucky, owner Claudio Bonotto will sit by your table and indulge you with his knowledge and experience in Venetian Cuisine. Le Zie gets TWO THUMBS?. WAAAY UP! Pros: Thumbs up! more

sweet pasta dining 2/11/2007

A local favorite 11/12/2006

Le Zie is a reliable local spot. I have been going there for years and the pasta is consistently delicious. They have expanded lately getting a little more crowded. But it is still a local favorite. more

Found a long blonde hair in my pasta! 9/14/2006

Went with some friends one night to sit outside and enjoy some italian food. I got some pasta, and halfway though a long blonde hair was pulled out of the middle of my food with my fork. Nasty. Pros: Nice outdoor seating area. Cons: Unhygenic. more

average italian 4/3/2006

one of the better quality restaurants in chelsea. good selection of pasta Pros: inexpensive Cons: no parking more

Great neighborhood spot 12/12/2005

Le Zie is a great Chelsea spot for quality Italian food. The menu is pretty diverse ranging from their standard spaghetti and meatballs (which are excellent) to various fish and meat based dishes. They have a very extensive wine list and there are several excellent Italian wines available for $40 and under. The service has generally been good, although it can get a little crowded in the main dining room. Upstairs can feel a little desolate but better than waiting for a table in the main room. Pros: Food, Price Cons: Can be crowded more

A Good Neighborhood Italian Restaurant 11/7/2005

On rainy night in NYC, this neighborhood restaurant was a haven. The warm welcome we received and the cozy seating started the evening off. The service started off very leisurely. When we mentioned that we had theatre tickets, the waiter made certain that our dishes were served promptly and courteously. The appetizers and main courses were very, very good. We would definitely go back there for another bit of Venice. Pros: Food, Service , Prices more

Really Addictive! 9/10/2004

For their price range, I think they do a really good job of making the food look and taste fabulous. Their appetizers are the best part of the menu so my boyfriend and I always order 3 appetizers between the 2 of us. Interesting menu items everyone should try: steamed asparagus with egg and mushrooms (sooo yummy and healthy), tricolore salad, and pici. Pros: Very competent staff, Casual, well-priced Cons: , no reservations more

Great option for Chelsea locals... 12/7/2003

Le Zie is one of those small neighbordhood restaurants with a nice selection of wine and food, reasonable prices, and a quiet and cozy ambience. The place seems like its always busy in both the front and back rooms. There is an upstairs, but I'm not sure what goes on upstairs? The Beet Salad was excellent! I tasted the Gnocchi, Veal lasagna, and the Mushroom rissotto, all of which I tasted splendid. However, the lasagna was a little meaty and the rissotto, a bit oily (but I am very critical). The service was ONLY fair! The waitstaff was slow and disinterested. Although I did not taste dessert, the menu includes the yummmy Italian standards! The experience overall was enjoyable, but I don't live in Chelsea and doubt I would make a special trip back. Pros: Neighborhood dining, Tasty food, Reasonable prices Cons: Slow waitstaff more
