Glad I ignored the first review! 8/25/2011

My husband and I decided to give Kupros a try for Brunch last Sunday. The Decor is an A+ staying true the era of the building. We decided to eat at the bar, which is large and inviting. Most people were going upstairs to eat on the patio (we went up to check it out and it was just as inviting upstairs) The bartender was friendly without being intrusive making us feel quite at home. I had the Huevos Ranchero's, it was served in a cast iron skillet which I loved since it keeps the food hot as you eat it. It was delicious the eggs on top were done to perfection loose yolk with whites completely done. It's amazing how many restaraunts can't get this right but Kupros did! I took half home, it was so filling. My husband had the Eggs Benediction thier own spin on eggs benedict instead of an english muffin it's served on a potato pancake of some sort. I managed to get one fork full before he devoured it, amazing! The bacon that came with it was incredible too. I highly recommend Kupro's Bistro!!! We plan on going back soon for dinner, I'll let you know what I think, more

Strong AVOID 1/3/2011

Kupros Bistro is located on 21st street in Sacramento. A recently renovated house turned trendy bistro. With a menu comprised of local ingredients and the promise of trendy flair my expectations were high for this new restaurant. Upon entering, the restaurant, it was freezing cold, so cold in fact that my feet felt like they were in an icebox after being seated for a few moments. There was no consideration for the comfort of the patrons in this respect. The d?cor is quite classy with stained glass windows and wood trimmed bar. Bench seating lines the walls, although it is far from comfortable since it is wood for the seat potion and sparsely padded material covering the seat back. If you were considering an extended sitting with family or friends at one of their tables I would pass. Sitting at one of the bar stools at the bar, although not as intimate, would spare your rear end from the medieval torture seats they have installed. Starting off with the drinks we asked if they carried Dr. Pepper and were informed by the waiter they did. The waiter returned a few moments later dropping off out drinks and after the first sip it was clear they did not have any. The waiter attempted to cover up their mistake of informing us they had Dr. Pepper by making his own version (Sprite mixed with Root Beer). As if it would not be noticeable. The first disappointment was the Salad. The Calamari Salad (Avocado, Pepperoncini, Cilantro-Lime Vinaigrette) for $11.00 was a very small salad and a sheer disappointment. The Calamari (all seven pieces) was overcooked and had the texture of eating a pretzel. The Salad dressing was not as flavorful as you would expect for a cilantro-lime dressing. The only good portion of the salad was the sparse one-cup of greens which in of itself was skimpy for the price of $11.00. The second disappointment was the Kupros Burger (Grass Fed ? lb Chuck, Beer Cheese, House Relish, Hand Cut Fries) for $13.00. The burger overall was good with the only issue being the relish and the hand cut fries. The relish appeared to be a mixture of finely chopped dill pickles, red onion, and romaine lettuce. The onion was so overpowering it distracted from the other flavors of not only the relish but the flavor of the burger itself. The burger was ordered medium well and was received medium rare. The hamburger arrived hot but the fries were as cold as the restaurant itself. From seating time to meal arrival it took approximately 45 minutes with a whopping total of 8 other people in the entire restaurant. Seriously? With such a small menu and hardly anyone in the restaurant 45 minutes to prepare a salad, hamburger and fries. Overall for price, food quality/quantity, and service I would rate this restaurant as a strong AVOID. more
