Great Sushi by any standard 3/28/2009

I currently live in California and have had plenty of great sushi from SF to NYC to Tokyo and Kotobuki ranks up there with the best I've experienced. Most people don't realize that the quality of sushi has little to do with proximity to the ocean and everything to do with experienced presentation and the popularity to the restaurant. The more popular the restaurant, the less time sushi sits around before being served. Sushi-grade is flash frozen at sea (go check out the Tuna market in Tokyo) and shipped all around the world. Once the fish is thawed, it is a race against time to serve the sushi, with quality falling every second. As the most popular sushi restaurant in NW Ohio, Kotobuki guarantees the freshest, highest quality sushi experience that rivals the best (and also popular) restaurants in larger cities like SF and NYC. The preparation of all the food (not just sushi) is very tasty - I bet you won't taste better Agadashi Tofu anywhere. Remember, you should never eat sushi at an unpopular restaurant...somethings are really worth the wait! Pros: Quality of food, Friendly Service, Nice Atmosphere Cons: Popularity can lead to some waiting, but worth it more

Average at Best.... 9/1/2007

This is the first place in toledo i went to eat sushi when i moved from seattle Washington. This place came with great recommendations, but never up to par. The service was okay we didn't mind waiting for our food since we have been to many sushi restaurants and waited up to almost 3 hours for food before when we lived in seattle. I did notice a lot of patrons getting annoyed because of the wait. \r Now for the dissapointment.... waiting for good food is worth every penny, but this isn't worth the wait. When we got our Sushi and Sashimi we barly touched it. I tired some of the sushi and the rice had no flavor at all. The fish had a fishy taste to it which means they are not using fresh fish. Maybe i have been spoiled eating at sushi resturants that used fresh fish. I will not be going back to this place that is for sure. I guess in this small town people haven't aquired what sushi must taste like. Cons: Quality of food, Parking, Service more

Best sushi in this town. 5/20/2007

Ive been here a handful of times now, and I find their sushi the best in this area. The service is quite good when you dine at the tables, and appears to be a family run operation. The sushi is of good quality, and sitting at the bar is recommended if you are a sushi.sashimi person that picks your food based on what your eyes tell you. The prices on nigiri (fish on top of the rice) is overpriced, but the quality is good. Service from the wait staff is not so good when you are sitting at the bar, but I stil prefer the bar when ordering sushi. A nice find in this otherwise bland town. Pros: best sushi in NW ohio Cons: sushi a la cart prices are too high. more

Kotobuki rocks! 6/7/2006

I don't live in the metro Toledo area, but everytime I know I'll be in the Sylvania area, I make it a point to go to Kotobuki. Everyone has always been friendly to a fault and their service is nearly impeccable. I was introduced to Japanese cuisine on the West Coast (not much fresher than that) and when I relocated back to NW Ohio, I lamented that I would never have as good sushi and sashimi. I was soon corrected, as Kotobuki was better than any of the eight places I had been to in Southern California. Not to mention their great prices and warm atmosphere. I've been there approximately ten times a year for the past ten years, with no major complaints at all. If you've never tried sushi, or are looking for a place to go after getting hooked elsewhere, this is the place I recommend to everyone I know. more

One of the best 8/6/2003

I've been to sushi restaurants throughout the U.S. and have found Kotobuki to be among the best in terms of quality. The rice is always tender and the fish very fresh. Saba (mackerel) is difficult to get right, and Kotobuki's is especially good. Other restaurants serve a bland attempt at this specialty, but not here. Serving size is about average -acceptable for the price. Seating is cozy, but the setting has a relaxed ambiance. Overall, 9 out of 10. Pros: Fresh fish, Well prepared rice, Pleasant presentation Cons: No waiting room more

Just average 6/2/2003

The fish is not very fresh. The quality of sushi is average. Whenever I go to sushi restaurant, I always order yellow tail and sava because without freshness these two can't be best tasted. Sava was little salty and yellow tail was OK. The service was good but overall it is just average. more
