I'm Disappointed in You Knitch 4/30/2010

I used to LOVE Knitch. In fact - I've spent THOUSANDS of dollars there - more when I was married and wealthy- and as I've gotten divorced and then become ill - I've spent less. Now that I'm sick - I actually knit more - meaning I buy yarn and have time on my hands - but I don't take as many CLASSES and I don't go to the store as often for the fun hanging out. I REALLY loved the old space and still love the new space. I enjoyed the staff and even now they know my name and generally are helping finding things in my ability range for knitting. Here's the problem. Lately - because I've been ill - my parents or friends have been driving me and I've been less ""independent"" than I've wanted.. but when I get out - I still enjoy shopping and plundering through their yarns. I don't get as much help from friends and ""stitch and bitches"" b/c I don't go out as much. So when I have questions - they are very stingy lately - and say, ""We'd prefer you take a class because we feel taken advantage of."" Now-- I can understand that IF I wasn't buying my yarn from your shop and IF I hadn't been a LOYAL CUSTOMER since the DAY YOU OPENED. Meanwhile -- I can't get all my help from online tutorials. I get stuck occasionally. It is in your best interest to HELP ME on a slow day to read a confusing pattern and maybe help me unravel something that got stuck so I can figure it out. I'm disappointed with their new ""less than customer friendly"" attitudes. I get that they can't knit my whole project - but just today I left with 2 balls of yarn that cost FAR MORE than it would have at Michaels or another ""box shop."" Why? Because I want to support my local shop. If I have questions - you should be willing to ANSWER THEM. This hurts me to write. I like Kim (the owner). I love some of the staff... but -- I'm also hurt and offended by the new less than pleasant and kind treatment. I'm NOT just someone who gives you money. I'm a LOCAL CUSTOMER who wants to see my neighborhood stay wonderful. And I'm a human being who deserves consideration. I'm not ""taking advantage"" of you when I get stuck on a pattern and have ONE QUESTION. I didn't even take it in - I just asked if you would b/c I have one. Now -- I'm not even sure if I will return. There are PLENTY of online places and other yarn shops who are HAPPY to have my money and if I have to muddle through online tutorials anyway- and you're not going to give me REAL CUSTOMER SERVICE -- WHY should I come to your shop? I'm ashamed of you Knitch. And disheartened that THIS is what has become of my FAVORITE Local Yarn Shop. Pros: Beautiful Luxury Yarn Cons: Staff has become LESS SERVICE and more $$ driven more
