So cheap and so good 4/13/2006

The quality's good, and the food's consistent. Service is fast, and the food's cheap. One of the cheapest Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area. Check out Kiki's in the Sunset, which is also owned by the same people (and from what I understand, has the same menu) more

sushi on the cheap 3/17/2006

Kitaro is the older sister to Kiki in the Sunset, and I think it's not as good as it used to be. Like Kiki, this restaurant does sushi for the budget-minded set. While their food is not the greatest I've had by far, they do have some nice tasting sushi rolls with interesting names. Bento boxes are a good deal too. more

kitaro 3/17/2006

cheap japanese food. the raw fish doesn't look so good so i've never ordered it. i will only eat the cooked food and rolls. even the rolls are not great but can't beat the price. if you feel like eating rolls but not spending the money, then kitaro is the place to go. and that's why this place gets crowded. more

PERFECT JAPANESE FOOD & SUSHI! vegetarian friendly! 1/25/2006

My FAV for veggie sushi and at $1.99!!!! Wonderful specials! Always busy! Fun atmosphere! more

Good inexpensive place to eat sushi! 10/17/2005

This place is the best for a good inexpensive lunch or dinner. They serve sushi rolls starting at $1.99 and the entree portions are pretty decent sized. I especially like their chicken teriyaki bento box for lunch as it's only $4.99. The overall atmosphere is energetic and kid, family friendly. The staff is stuper nice. Definitely a place to frequent. more

My Review 9/14/2005

I like going to this restaurant a lot. The food is made with fresh ingredients. Try the combination plates as you'll get to sample a variety of foods ranging from tempura to teriyaki beef. Meals are served with soup, rice, and tea. If you like green tea ice cream, try this for dessert. Waiters/waitresses are very attentive. more

Its OK! 9/14/2005

There is always a line to eat at this restaurant and so I tried it for the first time anticipating something out of the ordinary. But there isn't anything special bout this place. There isn't much of a selection of sushi rolls or sashimi. Not worth the wait. more

cheap sushi with great selections 8/12/2005

if you want just raw fish, dont go here. if you like ebisu and want someting like ebisu, dont come here. but if you want some cheap, quality japanese rolls, this is where you want to go. bring a few friends, have a feast, and pay less than 100 dollars including tax and tips. the atmosphere is usually full of people in their teens and twenties. you wont find many oldies here! more

kitaro 8/11/2005

kitaro is one of my favorite japanese restaruants in the city. they have very very reasonable lunch and dinner prices. their sushi rolls are very cheap and makes it easy for a student to get a good meal. their staff is always very courteous and friendly and make the experience wonderful. their great prices keep me coming back time after time. more

Great Sushi 8/9/2005

This place offers delicious sushi at affordable prices. They have trays full of sushi available for around fifteen dollars. Parking wasn't so easy because it is located on a busy street but the sushi and low prices makes up for it. This is one of the best sushi places in San Francisco. more

Great place, Great price 8/6/2005

Kitaro sushi is a great place to eat. Usually you would have coupons for specific sushi's or 15% off deals in the mail. THe best part of the restaurant is the different types of sushi available. They have alot of choices to choose from and their tastes will amaze you. Even though the place is small, the it is not too busy or too much of a hassle to eat there. The lighting is great and they have nice decorations and lighting on the walls. more

japanese fast food 6/28/2005

The food here is prepared and brought to your table very quickly. My friends and I always order extra because it seems like everyone here always has a full table. The fish tastes like its come right from the sea and the rest of the ingredients are also just as fresh. It can get a bit claustrophobic here because the place is small and it is popular with all sorts of ages. A good tip is to wait outside to avoid blocking the wait staff and the entrance. more

Never failed me until last time 8/11/2004

I agree with Dave. During our 3 years in SF, Kitaro was the one place we would regularly drive to across the city to load up on their godzilla and mexican rolls. However, after a year away from the city, we decided to try Kitaro again and this time it wasn't so great. It is possible it was just a fluke experience, but given that they also had newly made menus, there may have been a change in management or something. Everything on our plate was just average and not as chilled and fresh-tasting as you want you sushi to be. If we weren't leaving the city again, I'd definitely give it another try, but would be a bit wary. more

Inexpensive sushi at its best! 6/13/2004

One of the most inexpensive sushi restaruants in San Francisco, yet also one of the best tasting. Kitaro cuts costs where it is most important - inexpensive tables and chairs, quick efficient service, and no sushi bar. Their sushi is fresh, tasty and unarguably good - as demonstrated by the 15-20 minute dinner hour waiting times. more
