I have spent hundreds at this store in the last 10 years. I bought a dvd and realized I already had it. A few weeks later I attempted to return it still wrapped, in the bag with the credit card receipt. The employee said he needed the ""real"" receipt and looked away as he handed me the dvd back. It's no wonder brick and mortar stores are going out of biz, I will get my goods on the internet. I don't need to see these people's faces when I shop. more

I've been going to Kim's for some time-- at first, just to rent videos for my boss, but then on my own when I was curious if they had any new foreign cinema releases. I went in on a couple of occasions during their ""Blow-Out"" sale. Waiting in line to purchase a DVD, I overheard the young employee behind the counter answer a question from the man in front of me (re: why the DVDs on the shelves were all out of order). There was no offer of assistance, no apology... Once I brought my DVD to the counter, I tried to make some polite small talk about the new store. The same employee looked at me and said, ""Look, why don't I just sell you this DVD and get this over with?"" I took my debit card back and walked out. Never again. I have purchased quite a few DVD's from Kim's in the East Village because of their great selection. However, after purchasing a factory sealed DVD that was missing the actual DVD in the case, I was treated rudely. Specifically, I was told that no manager could help and that I would have to contact the manufacturer to get a replacement DVD. When asked about contacting the owner they told me that his name was ""Mr. Kim and he is unreachable"". That alone is enough to question their business ethics. There isn't anything close to a reasonable guarantee of minimum services . No matter if it costs a bit more at other places, I won't buy anything from Kim's again. Buyer beware. more

I went shopping for my brother's birthday, my brother being the hardest person in the world to shop for. I found a DVD of ""Destroy All Monsters"", a Godzilla movie that even Amazon didn't have at the time. Now, once a year, I know where to go to shop for my brother. more
