Editorial review from Citysearch 8/15/2013

The worst cave experience I have ever had. I was embarrassed to take my family to this place because of the rude old bag that gave the tour. She was mean at the register, rude to the customers, not only us but others said they were treated very poorly. The old lady who owns it gives the tours and she is slow and mean. DON'T take your kids! She locked the door the the only entrance and exit and held us hostage to her badgering comments and bs stories for an hour and a half. The cave was nice, but you couldn't enjoy it because she is constantly yelling at all the customers. Don't waste your time and money unless you like harassment for over an hour. Go to the bathroom before you even drive there and don't ask any questions because she has nasty answers. They really need to hire a college kid to give the tours because her information is not based on anything other than her viewpoint. She should retire. I was scared she was going to die and leave us trapped in the locked cave. RUN the opposite direction until she leaves. Other than that its a nice cave. Now your informed. more

Okay. Most of the review from 2011 has some truth to it. Keep in mind that this cave belongs to the woman who leads the tours, and from the sound of it she has been instrumental in preparing the cave for tours. We did have reservations but our tour started immediately at 2. The grounds are in definite need of some upkeep. If you want to see beautiful grounds go the the Madison Arboretum. If you want to see an amazing cave in Wisconsine come here (and Cave of the Mounds). Yes, the tour contains information on more than just geologic formations from some 20 year old intern and the owner does tell some stories that could be shortened. However, I very much enjoyed my 90 minutes underground and would highly recommend seeing these caverns. The owner is on the older side of life but if she is 80 then she is doing very well. I am happy to see some sites that have not been homogenized by corporate makeover artists. This is a very raw experience and I would go back again. more

This cave closed in 2007 and it should have remained that way. The reason reservations are required is they don't open if they don't have any reservations. We arrived an half hour early for a 2 o'clock tour.( We did have a reservation.) It was locked up. Called on cell and woke up the owner......she is in her 80's. Sole owner, operator and tour guide. The path to the entrance is so overgrown, you can barely get thru. The outdoor toilets are horrible and the picnic table are lost in the weeds somewhere. A 40 minute tour lasted 90 minutes due to her numerous lectures : ( along the route. She maybe a knowledgeable for an octogenarian, but definitely not a tour guide!!!! The museum is a joke....watch out for the spider webs (occupied). A total waste of $ 14. more
