Great place!!! 3/9/2012

One of the best Greek/Mediterranean restaurants out there!\r Loved the ambience and the music (which was not the typical Greek mambo jumbo staff you usually hear in Greek restaurants)\r The food was awesome, the Greek Salad was fresh, the Octopus cooked to perfection, the Spicy Feta spread off the charts.\r They have a very decent wine list and their cocktails are not half bad either!\r Can't wait to go back! more

This place is a gem! 1/14/2010

a bunch of us went there for dinner last night. first of all, they have delicious olives, bread and cheese on the bar to eat but they also have a great happy hour special of a free appetizer with your drink. You can't go wrong with that! After our wonderful experience at the bar, Thasos, our waiter, brought us over the fresh fish and described what each one was and how they prepare it. When we ordered and decided to have fish, we went over and picked the one we wanted. Of course, you don't have to do that, but you can if you want to. Our food was absolutely delicious and the service to match. Everyone was so nice and attentive. If you like Greek/Mediterranean food, you will love this place. Pros: everything Cons: nothing that I was able to see more

Editorial
  • The Scene
The cool modernism of the former Parea is exchanged for the warmer trappings of an Ionian tavern, with aged oak wine barrels and earthy textures of stone and wood. In other ways the vibe feels decidedly Gramercy: You'd be forgiven for assuming there was a jacket requirement when surveying the crowd, and servers are versed in the old-school tradition of mannered deference.

    The Food
A complimentary starter of olives and kefalograviera cheese sets an auspicious tone for the up-market, all-organic Greek fare. Fresh yellow tomatoes and pimientos add zing to a salad, and a similar balsamic-style base marinates fleshy octopus sprinkled with capers. Entrees are so large the table literally needs to be extended. "Yesterday's Lamb" is marinated overnight, oven-roasted, and served seeping juice into oregano potatoes, while whole grilled bass is rich and buttery. Desserts show characteristic Greek restraint: Sheep's milk yogurt with thyme honey and tart cherries has a light, effortless touch.

Hits: The kitchen doesn't overextend itself or resort to gimmickry; and its back-to-basics approach is a refreshing one.

    Misses:
Final tally might seem a bit stiff for those not afraid of jaunts to Astoria.
