Best

So I have been to India...I have eaten in Jackson heights! I was just walking by this place one day, hungry, and decided to stop in....I ordered the veg samosa, saag paneer, chick...

Worst

EXTREMELY SLOW, I ordered from them twice ( thought to give them a second shot) and both times it took 1 hour and a half to get the food.

Just like India! 8/11/2010

So I have been to India...I have eaten in Jackson heights! I was just walking by this place one day, hungry, and decided to stop in....I ordered the veg samosa, saag paneer, chicken tikka masala, naan, and chai tea. WOW!!! The food is SO delicious it brought me to tears in my eyes. All the flavors, aromatic spices, tenderness, and freshness brought me right back to being in India and all the delicious food I had there. I have eaten at many Indian restaurants in the US and it's usually subpar! Usually, most places use too much chilli powder and all you taste is ""hot"". Not true with here! You taste all the spices and the herbs and its not just a hot taste in your mouth, but rather a blend of beautiful flavors! At most places, the rice is oily and greasy. Not true here! The rice here is so fluffy and fresh, and not oily at all. At most places the saag paneer is gross, with mushed up spinach and crappy cheese! Not true here! The spinach is awesome, and the cheese cubes are like little treasures, so tender and delicious! The vegetable samosa here is so crisp on the outside, not over cooked, and delicious with potatoes, peas, and cilantro on the inside mildly flavored! The dipping sauces are so fresh, you can tell they are made on site--the cilantro is crushed up and the tamarind sauce has just the right bite to it! DELICiOUS! The chicken tikka masala is out of this world! To end, I want to say that I went home and told my boyfriend about this place. He HATES Indian food. He says it looks and tastes like vomit-that he's tried it before. I carried around Karahi's card in my wallet for 2 years!!! I kept saying, no I need to take you to this place. Finally, one day, he decided to go. Again, we ordered the same thing I had before--he was BLOWN AWAY!!! He now LOVES Indian food because of this restaurant!! And he asks me if we can go there! We both LOVE LOVE LOVE Karahi!!! Incredibly delicious Indian. He even says he wants to take his dad (who hates Indian food) to this restaurant. THIS RESTAURANT WILL MAKE ANYONE A BELIEVER!!! I cannot stress how wonderful it is! Oh and the chai tea, wow!!! Homemade, just like I had in India and Nepal! Wonderful! Cheers! more

Hidden Gem 6/11/2008

I'm hesitant to give away the secret of this treasure in the West Village for fear it will become mobbed. We ordered takeout a few times, expecting at least some semblance of edible Indian food and were amazed at how extraordinary all of the dishes were. Finally got a chance to go there and found the service, atmosphere and commitment to hospitality on a par with the delicious food. I'm not a gastronome so, I cannot go into detail in describing the subtle nuances of the various entrees but, I have experience eating regular meals and I must say that everything was very good. You will not get lost in a flurry of artificial flowers or Christmas lights like you might find in the East Village, however, the atmosphere is authentic without being too cute and is condusive to enjoying a great meal. Considering New York City rents, transportation, food prices, utilities, and vigorish to the mob for trash removal and linen service, I'd say the prices are on the low side of moderate. Pros: delicious well-prepared food, relaxed, unhurried atmosphere more

One of the Best Indian Restaurants in the City 10/30/2006

This unassuming place in the heart of the West Villiage was a wonderful surprise to me. I absolutely loved the Indian food and the staff and restaurant offered a charming, yet cozy environment. Highly recommended by me if you are looking for a casual joint paired with great Indian food. I'll definitely be back! more

Great indian food in the west village! Finally! 9/25/2006

I finally got around to trying this place the other night. It is totally awesome, there's no really good Indian food in the neighborhood until now. I had samosas and the chicken marinated in yogurt. The owner is so nice, and brought out these great fried veggies (Indian tempura?). The naan is so fluffy and delicious. Main courses kick it. The food definitely has a spicy bite, but it's not just hot. It has wonderful layered flavors and is highly addictive. They're waiting on a liquor license so for now it is BYOB with no corkage fee. Prices are really cheap, since they're rebuilding their client base after moving to the West Village from SoHo. Pros: Delicious food, reasonable prices, BYOB Cons: small space, make reservations for weekends. more

awesome 5/4/2005

Me and my friends go here all the time for teh buffet - it's so good! they change the food and there is plenty of variety - vegetarians and meat eaters alike. The buffet gets cold sometimes, but otherwise is fantastic. the naan here is PERFECT. Don't overlook it - the staff is a bit off (not rude, just sort of not really there), but who cares? more
