Best

Visiting from Texas and wanted a facial and massage. This place is simply amazing. I will return if I am back in the area.

Worst

There are many breeds of spa goers - if you like luxury girly pampering a la Bliss Spa, Kabuki Spa is not for you. I made the mistake of going on Tuesdays which is co-ed day. Th...

Kabuki 7/30/2006

When my body is feeling tight and in need of some inexpensive pampering time, I head to Kabuki Springs & Spa. I use the communal bath on women's days: Wednesdays and Fridays :$20, heading there early so it's not too busy. They have great smelling shampoos, conditioners and soap, iced towels and cucumber water - what a treat! The Grounding treatment was delish that I was so zonked afterwards I took a nap in the locker room. My massage was one of the worst I've ever had - I asked to just have my upper back and neck worked on (he gave me a full body) and he irritated my shoulder knots by repeating his move about 20 times. For massage, I'll head somewhere else next time. more

Interesting place 7/19/2006

My mother got my wife a gift certificate here a couple of years ago. It was a nice place, with some interesting amenitites. You can get a massage with a bath -- you sit in a Japanese bath and the masseur comes in and washes you (a bit weird) and then a typical massage. The setting is nice and the people are great. The only weird thing is the bath, but if you can get past that, it's great. more

Bathing and Meditation Haven 5/28/2006

The first time I ever went to Kabuki Spa, I was visiting from DC. I'm pretty sure it's one of the main reasons I decided to move to SF instead of New York (thanks Kabuki!). The spa offers massage and other traditional services, but the biggest draw are the communal baths. Step into the large stone room and you're immediately transported to a zen paradise far from the stress of city living. Bathing suits are allowed (and actually required on the one co-ed day) but this is really a place to be with yourself in your, um, natural state and the birthday suit is the outfit of choice. The baths feature several showers, a steam room, sauna, large hot tub and a plunge pool kept a chilly, "invigorating" 50 degrees. Talking above a light whisper is forbidden and a large gong in the corner is on stand-by to remind those who forget. Herbal tea and lemon or cucumber infused water are available to help keep you hydrated and wooden benches and lounge chairs provide a great spot for meditation, cat naps or studying for the LSAT. The only downside - it can get crowded. MEN: Mondays Thursdays Saturdays WOMEN: Wednesdays Fridays Sundays CO-ED, Clothing Required: Tuesdays more

Step into the Orient 11/10/2005

Step into the Orient here at kabuki Springs. This day spa is so unique, not your typical day spa. I love this place. It is reasonably priced, most services are less expensive than those hotel spas and it is conveniently located on Geary Blvd. in Japan Town. The employees are all wonderful and professional. more

So-so 9/23/2005

The massages are not so greatm but really nice to go de-stress, if all the other naked girls would just be quiet. more

Nirvana 9/14/2005

I remember my very first massage at this spa several years ago - I walked out feeling like nothing could harm me! I was so relaxed and de-stressed. I moved away from the bay area for a few years, but ultimately returned and couldn't wait to revisit this spa. The updated decor is very nice and their Nirvana package (given as a gift to me) is excellent and a great value! The communal baths are also an added bonus. I highly recommend this spa. more

Great place to get a massage 9/3/2005

My parents are both shiatsu massage therapists, and since they live out of state, they gave me a gift certificate to the kabuki hot springs to get a massage. It was QUITE relaxing and very professional environment. After my massage, I felt totally refreshed and at ease. They made the process very seamless, although I did have to wait in line to get in the door. Definitely recommend thier massage service. more

Nature and man as one. 8/20/2005

Kabuki Springs located within Japantown, is a great little spa. The attendants are very professional, and the place is great, especially there sauna area. Little touches such as a area where you can clean yourself, and have a quiet period throughout different pools can be a tremendous boon to anyone's health. The prices are pretty fair compared to anything out there in the Bay Area. This is one of the longest running Spa establishments in the Bay Area, and everyone seems to be on there best behavior most of the time. more

beautiful place 8/19/2005

Kabuki is a great spa and has a very tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. Their hot springs are a great value and you could easily spend a few hours resting in the various pools while sipping on a cool drink. They have certain days for male or female only, as well as coed. I would recommend visiting on a weekday so it's not overly crowded. I also got a swedish massage and it was really nice too. more

Get pampered!! 8/17/2005

I'm not normally a day spa girl, but the folks here have made it addictive for me! (Well, as addictive as doing something once every 6 months is). I've had the Javanese treatment there and that ROCKED. I've also had the seaweed wrap + facial and that rocked too. It's lovely and clean and not too expensive and most definitely not snooty or filled with irritating yuppie types. more

best gift certficate I ever got! 8/12/2005

I received a gift certificate from my co-workers for my bridal shower. They gave me too much, where I could invite a couple of my friends to tag along with me. We had facials & massages. The private rooms are great- so peaceful & relaxing. The attendant didn't try to sell me their products. She gave me samples though. I mentioned to her that I don't do this that often, and she gave me recommendations on how to care for my oily skin. I can't recall if they do parking validation, but they have plenty of street parking. more

Excellent Service and Price 8/11/2005

ohhhh my goodness. I love this spa! they have so many different facials and stone massage and sauna. This spa is wonderful place, because they have great treatment and treatment packages for a great price. This place is so relaxing. They have a lovely entranceway, that leads you to a dark place that is lited with tiny lites all around and the music is so relaxing. more

Kabuki Springs and Spa 8/5/2005

Nothing better than having a great experience and all of this in a professional environment. I opted for the facial and my eyebrows done. This was the best facial I have ever experienced! A great facial massage. This is always such a treat, and it's even better if you take a friend and treat them to this fantastic experience. I just love the way my skin glows after a facial and the restfulness-is just heaven. Having my eyebrows done is something I have always been hesititate of , but at Kabuki Springs and Spa, they make the experience a trusting and enjoyable experience. I agree great on the eyebrow technique!! I feel I have had the best experience here on my eyebrows! I would recommend that you make an appointment and get your eyebrows done. more

Japanese baths and then some... 10/6/2004

Back in the late 90s this place was a favorite of my girlfriends and mine. We would hit the communal baths for a mere $10 (hot pool, cold pool, steam, sauna) and then grab some Udon in the Japanese mall there. Nowadays they still offer the same services but it has been spruced up and it quite nice. The interior is really nice and calming, they still have the communal baths (now $16 and $20 on the weekend)the spa services have expanded (they now offer massage, facials, body treatments)and there are several pitchers of water with slices of cucumbers to quench your thirst. Worth the money and the outing leaves you tranquil and clean! more
