Stop... Go somewhere else 11/22/2011

I had lunch last Thursday and what a gross experience. I got sushi lunch with salad. When the sushi arrived I noticed on piece of ahi looked different and stupid me I bit into it. Smell, old and made me ill. I told the waitress and she gave it to the manager and I can see him laughing and joking with the sushi staff. He brought the new piece over didn't say a word to me a ran away. I told the waitress how upset I was and I felt ill but know one cared. Next thing I see is the bill. I didn't finish the food but they charged me. I called the corporate office 4 times to tell them what happened and I can't get anyone to call back. I still can't each fish and still have a sick stomach. Health Dept should check this place more

I LOVE SUSHI 3/30/2010

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! more

This place literally made me sick for an entire week 5/28/2009

I have been to Kabuki about a dozen times on some of my many visits to Pasadena and I used to actually really like their food. Its not the best sushi (best sushi is at Sushigo55) but I liked Kabuki enough to keep going back, until that one last time ... I dont remember anything tasting bad or ""off"" or anything but throughout that day I started feeling worse until nighttime when my body gave up fighting. Apparently citysearch doesn't allow me to go into much more detail, but every 30 minutes I was running to the bathroom until morning. After that I couldn't eat anything for a couple days. I was seriously ill for about a week. If I didn't feel like I was getting better and if I had health insurance then I would've seen a doctor or gone to the hospital. I will never return to this place even if their management offered an apology with a free meal. Pros: Great way to lose 20 pounds in a week Cons: Made me spew fluids from both ends more

Where's the server? 3/5/2009

I didn't even get a chance to try the food here. The service was so poor my party left before we even got water. We went today for my birthday. It was about 5 on a saturday but they were surprisingly not busy. We were seated and given menus immediately. But then after sitting there for a good 15 to 20 minutes, with tons of servers walking padt us without any acknowledgement, my friend stopped a girl and politely asked for some waters. 5 minutes later she came back by with a tray of waters and walked right past us. That is when we walked out. more

Best sushi I've ever eaten. 6/26/2008

Great sushi. The service tends to be a little lacking, especially when they are busy, but the food makes up for the lack of personal attention given. Pros: Food Cons: Parking, Busy more

its a quick fix to sushi 11/23/2007

i remember when kabuki first came to pasadena. all the workers are korean and tried to be japanese. still its like it today, if you go here, all the workers are korean. even the sushi chefs. the food isnt all that authentic but it does seem somewhat fresh. yes there are better sushi places in pasadena but if you want somewheree cheap, then this is the place for you. on the happier note, the kabuki on foothill, near best buy is WAY better then the one on old town. something about the place in oldtown doesnt seem right. Pros: a mix between korean/japanese food Cons: the authenticity and the quality more

Bad Sushi At KABUKI 10/28/2007

kabuki has got to be one of the worst sushi restaurants ive ever been to. i love sushi, so im always looking for a new place to try. when im going out to eat with friends, kabuki seems to be the sushi 'no-brainer', but the food is awful; the portions of the rolls are cheap, and the flavor is nothing to write home about. its hard to walk away satisfied with small portions at such a high price, and feel good about what you ate and paid for. in my opinion, theyre much too expensive for the quality. i like to compare kabuki to the mcdonalds of sushi restaurants. ive been here quite a few times for parties, friend gatherings, etc, and its always the same, ive come to the conclusion that its just that their food is BELOW PAR for people who truely love sushi and know what quality is! like i said before, the portions are skimpy, the fish isnt too fresh, and really, my taste buds were insulted! the service at the restaurant in old town pasadena is terrible, too. i sat for almost 30 mins waiting for a drink refill and my check, i finally got so irritated that i went to the front desk to ask for my check and didnt leave a tip! it wasnt busy at all, so why should i tip a lazy waitress?! if you want great sushi at a cheaper price for larger portions try Niko Niko in Burbank! ;] Pros: a lot of seating, nice ambience, clean, sushi no-brainer Cons: bad fish, skimpy portions, high prices, lazy wait staff more

So-so sushi 1/9/2007

Only been here once, so someday I'll give it another try but. . . . the sushi rolls were ok. Some didn't seem fresh (were warm instead of cold) or loosely put together. Service was not so good either. Long time to get our food and after we finished it was like we were abandoned. We had a hard time tracking down our server to get the check. We knew one of the managers so, of course, he was good to us. The place wasn't too busy when we got there but I'm sure during more popular hours the place is pretty busy (being on Colorado and having the chain-restaurant name). Pros: Location on Colorado Blvd. in Old Town Pasadena Cons: service, not-too-great food, parking more

Decent sushi, cool location 11/24/2006

In the heart of Old Town, this Kabuki has a nice patio out front where you can people-watch. Their sushi is perfectly decent, and their rolls were tasty. There's a parking lot that gives you three-hours free around the corner on Delacey. more

Bad Service 11/14/2006

The price of the sush is cheap and fresh. I have been to both locations in Pasadena and the one in West Hollywood. I try to avoid Kabuki in Old Town Pasadena. Recently the service has gotten worse than a year ago. Head towards the other Kabuki off Foothill where the wait is shorter and the service is better. I believe service is just as important as the food. There isn't anything special about their rolls but if you just want simple Japanese food, this is a good place to go. It is quick and cheap for sushi. Pros: Cheap & fresh sushi Cons: bad service more

It is Good, not Great Sushi 7/23/2006

Although the interior still looks like the Crocodile Cafe that was there before, the space is still nice. Service is pretty good, very polite and prompt. Yeah, the sushi is not ""world class"" but it is tasty and so well priced. Take out is more expensive, you do not get the 1/2 off sushi deal with take-out. Still, it is fresh, and is not really expensive like some other sushi places in Old Town. more

Great location, Great customer service 7/22/2006

There aren't too many Japanese restaurants where you can eat sushi at 1/2 the price while enjoying a great view, but Kabuki in Old Town offers you just that. On a Saturday night, you can expect the restaurant to get very busy, but the service manages to stay both friendly and efficient. On my last visit to this particular location, my girlfriend and I decided to dine at the patio, where we were provided with excellent service by our server, James, who responded well to our needs and recommended a variety of both drinks and appetizers/dishes. What I enjoyed the most, however, was knowing that I could sit outdoors on a busy street like Colorado Blvd and enjoy sushi that is not only offered at 1/2 the price, but is also high in quality as well Pros: Excellent view, quality food at affordable prices Cons: Parking (First 90 minutes free) more

eh 1/5/2006

i dont mean to be a sushi snob or anything, but this place is really just mediocre. I mean if you take out, it will cost you about 15 bucks for two rolls-- i expect good stuff for that, but i think i'd be better going to the sushi counter and the super market. more

bargain sushi. 10/29/2005

come on... 1/2 price sushi?? if price matter to you, this is the place. you'll get sushi at a very cheap price. is it good? you get what you paid for.... meaning small fish portion with huge rice portion.... the taste is not consistent. Pros: cheap sushi Cons: don't complain!!! more

Good, cheap sushi! 7/3/2005

It's about time I found some sushi that costs less than my mortgage in the Los Angeles area! This place has good sushi and good everything else. Sushi is half price all day if you order 3 orders per person. It's a great deal! It's a casual atmosphere and isn't busy during lunch hours. Pros: Price, Comfort, Quick Cons: Few vegetarian entree more

Average Japanese cuisine 6/21/2005

Kabuki is an Americanized sushi restaurant. I went with a huge group of friends. I ordered the tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet), and I found it just mediocre compared to others I've had at authentic Japanese eateries at a cheaper price. The selection of sushi is bismal. Yet the 1/2 off deal balances out that negative aspect. The server was friendly, but he got the orders mixed up. Also, the food did not come out at the same time for everyone. Pros: Ambience, 1/2 off on sushi Cons: Small sushi selection, Price more

only good for the 1/2 price sushi 6/6/2005

if you want some 1/2 price sushi (spicy tuna & etc) w/a pitcher or beer, it's a great place. But, service is slow, and when u order tons of sushi for a big group they tend to bring out a few orders at a time and it takes forever to get all the sushi. more

Better than the East side Kabuki 3/31/2005

I have eaten at the Kabuki on Foothill in Pasadena and was very disapointed. This Kabuki in Old Town is just fine. The food is good and fresh. I ordered two different dishes the two times I have eaten here and enjoyed both of them. Both times I have eaten with several others, who all liked their food. Pros: tasty food, gd old town location Cons: parking more
