KFC 9/22/2005

Kentucky Fried Chicken's sad decline began in the late 80's as they further switched menu items over to cheaper alternatives and continued to stray further from the Colonel's roots. Sagging sales due in a large part to the "low-fat" fad caused the stores to be rebranded KFC to escape the fatty "fried" image. Apparently executives failed to attribute the drop off in sales to the fact that the food was a far cry from what was available in the franchises heyday. KFC has recently began opening stores in selecting cities returning to the Kentucky Fried Chicken moniker and trying to exhibit a more "down-home" feel. These test stores are offering more side options, some served family style, and there is even whisperings of the chain possibly returning to the original mashed potatoes and gravy recipe of olde. In short, somebody began wising up and realized if the food really blows people might not buy it - unless, of course you own the airwaves and the minds of children (see McDonalds). Hopefully some of these test stores will make their way here, because believe it or not KFC used to be a fairly decent restaurant...before Pepsi owned them. This CB location has average food quality, average cleanliness and average service. Order accuracy is generally good. If you listen real hard you can hear the Colonel rolling over in his grave. more

  • In Short
Established in 1939, this fast-food restaurant still makes its legendary fried chicken with the closely guarded blend of 11 herbs and spices originally created by founder Colonel Sanders. Modern additions to the menu include oven-roasted renditions of its chicken sandwiches, popcorn chicken, potato wedges and wraps. Classic sides include flaky, oversized biscuits, steaming-hot mashed potatoes and gravy, smoky-sweet baked beans and crisp, generously dressed coleslaw. Kids and adults love the "little bucket" parfaits of pudding desserts.
