Best

We went here for brunch on the recommendation of a friend and had a wonderful experience! Everyone was so nice - it was a beautiful day and our view of the Bay was just beautiful!...

Worst

When it was announced that Julius? Castle was reopening, I decided to give it a try. I?ve lived in North Beach for many years, and have seen restaurants come and go. The first c...

Don't waste your money here! 4/2/2005

Don't even think about dining here. We only spent $26 because we had a $100 gift certificate and we are still undecided if the meal was even worth the $26. The crab raviolis tasted strangely sweet and lacking of crab, the salads were very plain, and the veal and filet mignon entrée were just flat out nasty. The only portion of the meal that was worth mentioning was the yummy bread. The service was slow, but friendly. Great view, but you can see the same from Coit Tower. San Francisco has many great eats, this is definitely not one of them. Pros: view Cons: really bad food, slow service, way over-priced more

the best view,best service,great food 2/22/2005

I loved it ! so far it's my favorite restaurant in town for the view and the romantic abience ! foos is really good. Although I had ravioli and even though thy were home made they were kind of hard and uncooked but the rest was just delicious. I recommend: lobster tail, claims in Grappa, scallops wrapped in Salmon (my favorite) and don;t miss the chocolate souflle and coconut crem brule' ! great place, if you want to surprise somebody take him/her there ! Pros: view, ambience, service food Cons: parking but valet more

history 5/8/2004

most places that have a level of historical significance exist in union square or have completely lost what gave them an edge in the first place. when reading daschiell hammett and other great sf authors, you'll his this place, as well as others, mentioned. fortunately, what they loved about this restaurant, the great food, views, innovations, and service, remain here as if this were a new place still trying to create a reputation. Pros: views, service, appetizers Cons: , long walk more

World Class Food & Service 2/8/2004

My wife and I dined at Julius' Castle last evening. We travel the world over, and our experience at Julius' Castle was "World Class". We both rate it one of the best meals we've ever eaten. The service was exemplery, the food unequalled, and the decor and views beyond this world. Try the Atlantic Skate, and Rack of Lamb. One of the greatest Wine Lists ever, and many many bargains to be found on older and "treasured wines" listed. Pros: Menu, Service, Food taste/presentati Cons: , None, None more

Fleecing of San Francisco 6/12/2003

Took two clients there and it cost me $450 for three of us. If you read Zagat it says $55/person w/ one drink. Don't you believe it!!!! I get better service at a diner in NJ than this place. GREAT VIEWS and that's what you pay for. Average seafood. Average steaks. Great wine at $20/glass. Comon and lower your prices. They'd get a better reputation by getting a real chef and a real wait staff plus stop shopping at Safeway for average beef cuts. Really disappointing and embarrassing when taking out clients. Once again California lack luster service and quality Pros: views Cons: waiters, food, prices more

good food and views 2/16/2003

Went for dinner in early evening. My girlfriend and I both had the filet mignon which was very tasty, and the views were great. Try to get there before sunset and you can watch the skies change color as you dine. Service was a bit slow though. more

Snooty Without the Booty 8/13/2002

Excellent food, true, but overpriced, snooty, and not particularly worth it. The ambience made me roll my eyes just about as far back into my head as physiologically possible. more

  • In Short
The ambience is old-school luxury, the food upscale Italian, and the panoramic views from this unique "castle" restaurant atop Telegraph Hill breathtaking. Downstairs, a cush full bar recalls vintage cocktail culture--martinis and Manhattans. Three floors of dining rooms with wide windows facing east and north climb up the hill to the restaurant's pinnacle vantage point, a private balcony overlooking the entire bay. Note: Prices can soar as high as the views, but new ownership has purportedly revived the food.
