As apprehensive as I was about an oyster bar in Salem, I tried Jonathan's on a whim several years back. Since then, I've come back about half a dozen times for their fish tacos and excellent Tuesday drink specials. Unfortunately, the prices have risen steadily over the ages, and their forgettable creole fare hasn't changed to match. That's not to say that it's prohibitavely expensive to have a nice dinner out at Jonathan's, because it certianly isn't-- Despite its laid-back demeanor, it's actually one of the nicest upscale restaurants in the city. Service is usually prompt and friendly, and it's never too hard to get a table. The food, however, falls a bit shy of four stars.
Pros: Great downtown location, reliable service, decent food.
Cons: A bit too expensive, inconsisent menu.
