This was our first time at Joe's. There was only one table occupied when we entered the restaurant at 5pm today. It's early and in the middle of the week but I was a little concerned. The waiter was there right away and came back several times without being overly pushy. If I had to say something bad it would be that he didn't take away our dirty dishes very quickly.
The appetizers were good. The cheese sticks were hot and the salad with house dressing tasted great. The entrées were another thing. My wife and I ordered a large Supreme Pizza (the Chef's Specialty). My daughter ordered a Mussel/Shrimp/Fish and Noodle dish. Our pizza tasted good but the middle was soggy! It was like they set it on a water spill after cooking it. But that's not the worst of it. My daughter bit into one of the shrimp and literally could not bite it in half! I picked one up and could not tear it apart! We sent it back. Our waiter said the owner was going to come out to talk with us. My wife and I finished what we wanted of the pizza - our daughter never got a replacement meal. The waiter told us again the owner was coming out. We waited a little longer. Finally I got the waiter's attention to request a box for the pizza - we can dry it out in our oven. The owner finally came out. Did he say he was sorry we had a bad experience? Did he say he'd make it right? No. He said it was the first time anyone had sent back that dish! He said he'd always used shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico. He said he couldn't understand why we sent it back. We were done. My daughter didn't want any more. I don't like to make a scene. I just told him the shrimp was tough. I didn't know why, it was just a bad dish tonight. I felt like I was in an episode of Kitchen Nightmares where the owner can't believe their food could be bad! I wish I had kept the dish to show the owner how tough the shrimp were, to ask him to try them. The owner just went back to the kitchen.
On a good note, when we check out, the waiter did not charge us for the seafood dish. The total was $35 for a large pizza, 3 salads, 1 cheese stick appetizer and 3 drinks. I gave the waiter an $8 tip.
