I have been going into Joe's Music for a while now. I believe that many of the people think they can be harsh behind this message board to convince others. \r An honest review of Joe's music is in order. I do believe that Joe's is a nice establishment with clean products and a clean environment. The teachers that I have met are more than exceptional. Equipment and product in this store is very good -to- excellent and offers more than many shops that I have been to. The employees are kind and do a wonderful job with consignments, purchases, and helping each individual find what they need. \r Sometimes the owner can be a bit blunt, but the reasons behind this are justified. Joe's and the rest of the staff stand firmly behind what they know and how to do things the right way. When is comes to expensive instruments and teaching beginners instruments, Joe's music is a good place to go.\r \r Overall Rating (1-10)\r Total: 9 more

Hey, Everyone. Yes, this is Joe the owner of Joe's Music coming on to address complaints. \r To begin let me say, ""my staff and I have worked very hard for the past 9 years to really give a superior product to the public. However, ""Honest S"" does NOT have a specific complaint. Therefore, I can't truly address her vague accusation in the proper fashion. If there is something we did not ""give"" them at the point of purchase that is ""normal"" they should specify on this forum or they should contact the store so we can make it right. I am very fair but I will not allow my store be slandered or taken advantage of by anyone. If they came into my store and I treated them as ""untrustworthy"" there must have been some red flags going off. We do get some people who are trying to either rob or con or steal or simply take advantage of the store. My Staff and I are on our toes and that is normal for business. We have even had a guitar stolen right off the wall by one person while another person partners with the first was distracting the employees. If you are an honest person you should come in and let us make things right. If you are untrustworthy it is better that you stay away from my store.\r Families like how we do business. We teach over 200 students per week on various instruments. Joe's Music rents over 100 Band instruments per Year. Current School Band Rental Special: 3 Month band trial offer $9 total price for 3 months rental. Some restrictions apply. See store for details.\r Lastly, Maggie R obviously shops at our store. She knows who all the employees are by name. She must then also know me. She accuses me of coercing my employees to write reviews for my store. LOL. Any one who knows me know I am a small person 5'5"" and 160 lbs. I am not intimidating by any stretch of the imagination. Also, like many small businesses I can't afford to pay my employees very much. My employees like working at Joe's Music because I treat them fairly, we have high standards and we have fun working together. If they wrote a review it was because they wanted to. Not because I coerced them in any way.\r By the way is this the same Maggie who's boyfriend just opened a guitar store a mile up the street from me??? If not be more specific and I will address your complaints too. \r Thanks to anyone who read this reply. \r \r \r more

Funny how all the positive reviews are his employees, under coercion, I'm sure. more

I also would not recommend Joe's Music. At first Joe seemed to be super friendly and nice. I was considering taking lessons from Joe. Until I saw the other side of him. In an instance he mood went from nice to very unprofessional and down right rude. He accused us of being untrustworthy just because we wanted the appropriate things anyone should be given at the purchase of a product. I believe everything that @shroooms stated in his statement because that is exactly how Joe treated us. I deal with people everyday and could not believe he was acting like a spoiled and rude child. He was so lucky that we used restraint from telling him how we really felt. Do not be suckered in by his charm that he lays on thick. He is Dr.Jeckel and Mr. Hyde all rolled into one. more

Shroom just bought strings we special ordered him 2/1/2012

Hi. My name is Joe. I own Joe's Music. The funniest thing is Shroom , who wrote the really horrible complaint, was in my store this week buying strings at the lowest price around from my store. He couldn't get them from other stores & No other store would help him but we special ordered d'addarioo 6-string Bass strings for him. He also doesn't understand that we teach music theory at my store and to detune any intrument reduces the art to a knack. You could play some cool sounding things with only a few lessons, however, if someone wanted to convey a musical idea to shroom or wanted shroom to play in a particular key or map out a major or minor triad he would be dumbfounded. Standard tuning is so everyone can play together much like standard sized railroad tracks. We at Joe's have accrued a knowledge over 30 years of performing/teaching and sometimes people who do not know music want to tell us how music is supposed to ""be"" when they have not even studied the craft. Also, i do not believe i should be accosted online by someone who really wasn't the type of worker i hire and simply didn't jell with the other employees. I do not hire without consulting my staff and in this person's case it was a unanimous ""DO NOT HIRE"".Obviously, shroom has an ax to grind and my customers would not appreciate that when they shopped at my store. Also, in resonse to bothe shroom aand lake effect snow: sometimes people come into my store and want us to agree with their wrong or incorrect idea. Obviously, we want to help the customer but can only help if they are open to correct ideas. Remember we have only 500 sqre feet of store and 500 for teaching. We cannot stock every item but we stock things that work and are used regularly......I will ask shroom about his post the next time he is shopping in my store. retail is funny. LOL more

i would rather be shot then ever speak to joe again 3/4/2011

Let me give you my history of business with Joe's Music. I bought my first bass there 1 year ago and started taking lessons. My teacher, Jimmy Black, was an excellent teacher but did not teach me the more modern heavy metal I wanted to learn. Therefore, I switched to another local store. After that i would still go into Joe's, however I would have to deal with the seemingly friendly Joe tell me that my music is ""pointless talentless crap"". I soon needed a job though, and decided to possibly start interning at Joe's. It was a music store, local, and I figured if Joe and I could set aside our musical differences I would be happy to work there. I went in for my first night of free work one Friday, and was pleased with Joe's kindness and happy attitude. However, after it was almost closing time, Joe struck down upon me again. He spent the next 32 minutes putting me down and insulting me more than anyone has ever done in my life. He started telling me I was an idiot for leaving his store and the great Jimmy Black to take lessons from my current teahcer, whom Joe referred to as ""an idiot loser and talentless player"" for teaching me music in drop tunings. He then proceeded to call me a number of names, including ""retarded, foolish, dumb"" and more. He told me i was never going to be a good musician because i play metal music. Then he started mocking me and laughing at anything i tried to say, and Tony (a Joe's employee) joined by mocking me and laughing at me. I felt more hurt and insulted than i ever had in my whole life. I wanted to walk out and never come back, but I couldn't. I felt like I was trapped in there with Joe and Tony using my fear and emotional pain as entertainment. They laughed at me as I silently stared at the floor. Every time I tried to speak Joe would turn my respectable point into an insult and shoot it back at me. I literally wanted to cry. The point that confuses me most is why he would treat someone who sacrificed their saturday night to work for him for free like this. I finally left and as I was leaving, Joe said ""I'll call you about coming in on Wednesday."" My point is this: I urge anyone who is reading this, be them a new customer or longtime one to immediately cease all interaction with Joe's Music. Joe is a terrible person. I don't want to see anyone else treated the way I was ever again. Don't buy his guitars. Don't take his lessons. And most importantly, don't send your children to this disgusting excuse for a music store. Reason being, Joe is the most immature heartless person I have ever met. more

Not the best place 2/2/2011

This was not the best experience we have ever had. Was disappointed with the service. A bit pushy with items and seemed like they were a bit into themselves. Thinking I would not go back. more
