My Childhood Spot 6/1/2010

Located around the corner from where I grew up, Joe Peep’s offers up New York style pizza, with thick or thin crusts. They're known for their menu of “5,969 calorie pizzas,"" and boy your stomach will know it the minute your first bite sinks in. Plan ahead, as the wait for take-out can be long. more

Great Place for NY Pizza 3/14/2009

If you're craving NY style pizza, complete with plenty of ingredients and grease, this is the place to go! You walk in and feel like you've left LA. The walls are full of graffiti and the tables are very relaxed. The staff is even nice! The only drawback is if you're looking for a good side salad, don't go. It's definitely for a craving for good pizza and worth the trip. (: Pros: Best Slices of Pizza! Cons: Little Healthy Options more

pizza is good but the employees have attitude and over charge. I've paid as much as exactly $19.98 for a 18"" three topping blue collar pizza for pickup. Shoulda been according to menu + tax $18.34.\r $10.49 + 1.99 for each topping including extra sauce + .49 for takeout + tax.\r They acually charge for a premium topping for extra sauce!\r I won't be back!!! more

Best Pizza in LA 11/12/2008

This pizza place is not for the weak at heart. You will be stuffed. They are very genorous on their topping. they are always fresh. The staff is very friendly. I have never had a soggy pizza delivered. The place is small, so I recommend take out or delivery. Also try their fresh loafs of bread. The price is outstanding. The 18 inch meat lovers would cost you at least 1/2 more at a change pizza place. Thanx Joe Peeps for making me a VIP. Pros: Great Service and Pizza Cons: Too small of a location to dine-in more

Yuck 10/18/2008

Large slices of flavorless, doughy pizza. Not NY, not anything. Pros: It was open when we went Cons: Not worth the visit more

Editorial review from GrubHub 9/30/2008

Love this place! We order from here all the time. If you do their regular crust with the fluffy dough, it's a happy medium between Chicago thick crust and NYC thin crust-- although they do offer a more NYC-style option (the Blue Collar) if that's your thing. Also, the "Lite Toppings" are ample. I shudder to think what the "Regular Toppings" look like. Joe Peep's is fast, cheap, and good. more

Eat in, DON'T get delivery. 6/17/2008

If you physically go to Joe Peeps, it's really good. But ONLY if you go there. Delivery takes forever. They say it's because of the volume of orders. That would be easy to believe if the food showed up, say, WARM. We can't expect hot food, now can we? At the restaurant the pizza is hot and the crust is crisp. Delivered it's just a cold, soggy mess. I was shocked by this, having eaten at the place, so I gave the delivery a second chance. EVEN WORSE the second time. Not only was the pizza cold and soggy, but it appeared to be only half cooked. When did NY style pizza become an all-encompassing term? I'd say it's more Transylvania style than anything, as no vampire will come near after all that garlic. I like garlic a lot, but too much is too much. Pros: Great eat-in establishment Cons: Atrocious when delivered more

Average Pizza.. Not NY 4/5/2008

First thing's first.. this is not NY pizza. Don't expect that when you order it despite the name. We ordered delivery. This was our first try of Joe Peep's NY Pizza. Something I've found about LA (which is definitely different than NY) they charge delivery charges and some times hefty ones at that. Joe Peep's charged $4 on top. Seems a bit steep and puts me in an awkward position about what to tip the driver. Well, we ordered the 18"" Blue Collar (thin) pizza. Thick crust is not something I like (even from Totono's in NY). We always order the first pie plain to try it out for what it is.. Cheese and sauce were ok.. just ok. Crust was crisp and thin.. definitely some corn meal used which is never ok. Another reviewer mentioned it was Domino's-ish. It kind of was but a few small steps up. Other reviewers commented on the garlic in the sauce.. it seemed fine to me. Nothing stood out. The 18"" is a big pie with many small slices. Oh, skip the wings. They're oily and nasty. They came with ranch too.. no blue cheese and celery. I've tried a few pizza places in the area searching for that great pie and so far the only one that has had the best flavor (despite having too much oil though) has been Vitello's in Studio City. Pros: The pizza was delivered hot Cons: wings, $4 delivery charge, not NY pizza more

Good Pizza, Not The Best. 12/29/2007

I eat pizza all the time, and I've tried tons of different places in LA and New York. I went with a good ol' pepperoni pizza. They really don't mess around with the toppings. The pizza was completely covered in pepperoni, which is a good thing if you really, really like toppings. The sauce was very heavy on the garlic, and that says a lot coming from a garlic lover such as myself. It was almost too garlicky, but not quite. The crust is thick and quite filling, I could only eat two slices from the large pizza I ordered.\r \r I definitely expected more from reading the reviews on this site, but the pizza was still quite enjoyable. I wouldn't mind going there again and trying something else, but I probably won't go out of my way to do so. The restaurant itself is not a particularly pleasant environment. I'd suggest getting takeout. \r \r Pros: Lots of toppings, inexpensive, filling, tasty sauce. Cons: Average tasting, garlic might be overpowering for some. more

I think so..... 10/19/2007

Joe peeps is a highly recommended place for me and my friends. i say this because i live in whittier so lucky for me there is one on whittier blvd. i really am used to going there almost everyday after middle school. there is a school across the street and joe peeps gets alot of customers. they all say with great satisfaction,"" Joe peeps new york style pizza is truley the best pizza in the world!"" therefore for all the people who wold say other crappy pizza tastes better than you guys have issues. so i vote for Joe Peeps New York Style Pizza as my favorite type of PIZZA. woo hoo\r <3\r Serena J Mulay... Whittier Ca Pros: their food is the best, they have the best prices, and their service is Great!! more

It's hard to rate the pizza when the delivery never arrives 8/13/2007

Not only didn't my pizza come, but when I called they told me I hadn't been home. They said the driver would be coming right back, they asked for my phone number (again) but no one ever showed and nobody called back, either. It in the age of google maps, there really is not excuse for getting lost. And it's just bad customer service not to call. Cons: Pizza delivery never arrived and no one called. more

New York Pizza? I think not. 7/16/2007

I'm from Jersey.... grew up 20 minutes outside of Manhattan. Half of my childhood was spent in NYC. My opinion is obviously not the be all, end all when it comes to pizza, but I can tell the real deal from a fraud. \r \r Joe Peep's is right around the corner from my apartment. When I saw NY Pizza, my eyes lit up. Anxious for a taste of home, I ran in and ordered a pie. I was so disappointed. Their pizza is super doughy, ZERO flavor. It sat like a lump in my stomach and my boyfriend and I proceeded to be ill the rest of the evening.\r \r The staff is beyond nice, don't get me wrong, but the food just isn't tasty.\r \r Just a hint to all those looking for NY Pizza out here on the West Coast - you'll know it's close to authentic when you can smell it from a block away.\r \r If you find yourself in LA and don't mind taking a roadtrip, I HIGHLY recommend Bronx Pizza in San Diego. These guys are from NY, still have the accents to prove it, and ship in water from NYC. Or if you're in Boston, try NYP on Tremont St (near Boylston) across from the Majestic Theatre. more

Well...I guess It's edible. 1/20/2007

How dissapointing! Peep's came so highly reccomended to us but failed in every way. The pizza was soggy and the crust bland and 30 minutes was a bit too long to wait for a few slices. Plus, the they were overloaded with cold toppings to the point of becoming an unedible mess. The graffiti filled decor seems to strike some as NY authentic, perhaps adding to the street cred of the place . Yet the reality is that this establishment is dirty and disheveled. Service was nil, tables filthy and broken. Close inspection of the graffiti often reveals something crass or lewd and the profane rap music topped off a completely wasted trip. Ive lived in New York and am not a goody two shoes that cant handle a rough-around-the-edges urban setting, but lousy pizza makes a gritty atmosphere unbearable. Holes in the wall are awsome when the food is oustanding. This is just a hole in the wall. I gave Peeps my best shot and left wondering who in the world would like this place! The only place ive been to on the west coast that pulls of this style of pizza joint is Arinell's in San Francisco (yum). In LA, I'll stick with Manhattan Beach Pizza or Abbott Kinney untill I can get back to Lombardi's NY, Bizarro Florida or Da Michelle in Naples. And, yes, I am a pizza snob! Pros: cheap Cons: everything else more

Damn, that's a nice Pizza! 10/28/2006

I try just about every pizza place I ever hear about searching for the Rhode Island style pizzas I grew up on. Most are quite dissapointing, but this is not one of them. They actually put some sauce on their pies, that in itself makes Peeps better than most of the pizzas I try out here. They also have a great crust. I would, however, ask for lite toppings, they go a littl crazy with 'em. Pros: Great Pizza more

Nothing special 9/23/2006

I was craving pizza today and decided to give Joe Peep's a try because of all the great reviews i read on Citysearch. When i got there, they had a parking lot in the back that was pretty empty so parking was not a problem. As i walked inside, it looked like a pretty sketchy place because of all the graffiti on the walls and ceiling, however the staff there seemed pretty nice. The price is reasonable (12"" cheese pizza for $9.99, $1.49/topping or $0.75/lite topping--lite topping is half the normal amount of topping). I got a pizza with lite pepperoni and it had more than enough pepperoni for me. They also charge an additional $0.49 if you get your order ""to go."" The wait was less than 20 minutes and i was being entertained as i waited-- i saw one of the workers there ""clean"" the table next to me with her bare hand. Apparently this isn't the cleanest place. Anyway, when i got home and ate the pizza, it really wasn't anything special. It was very greasy (more greasy than most pizzas), and i actually had to get two paper towels to dab off the oil on the top of the pizza because the oil was beginning to seep through the pizza box. The crust was all right, but again nothing special. Would i drive less than five miles to eat here again? Nope. Pros: Parking, reasonably priced Cons: Greasy, nothing special about the crust or taste more

Ready for a pizza that'll BL0W YOUR MIND??? 8/28/2006

Being a NY style pizza afficionado, I can emphatically say their NY style pizza is that which all other pizzerias should aspire. Thier crust is perfection: the perfect thickness...or should I say THIN-ness....most ""thin crust"" pizzas are SO thin they are more like TOSTADAS (yeccch!). This one's tender and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Thier sauce is rich, flavorful and SMOTHERED in GARLIC!!! Could be better with more cheese, though that might just be me. IMO, there's NO such thing as TOO MUCH cheese!! But don't count on their garlic bread to complete your meal. It's the only thing on their menu that they not only screw3d up, but did so BIG TIME (yecch)!!!\r \r Their menu's very to-the-point: pizza, pasta, salad, sandwich. Not much else (not that I have a problem with it). With that said, the only non-pizza item I would strongly recommend is the baked ziti. If you feel the way I do ""there's no such thing as too much cheese"" then you REALLY ought to try some of this. They layer their delicious sauce and a mountain of rich, creamy gooey cheeses onto a pile of ziti (pasta shaped like unbent macaroni). Truly a guilty pleasure in every sense (particularly the sense of GUILT you'll be stuck with the next day that comes from eating TOO MUCH of this stuff!!)\r \r The place is clean, but very plain (aside from the graffitti covered walls that reach from outside the front door)!! I don't mind. It lends a NY feel to the atmosphere. For those above who complained about the ""ambience"", get it to-go. Whatever you do DO NOT get it delivered!! Their delivery's NOT FREE!! They'll charge you a RANSOM!! more

Fantastic Pizza 7/30/2006

Wonderful pizza served in a dive. I love their pizza and stop by to take one out on my way home from work every once in awhile. Pros: Great Food, Reasonable Prices Cons: The place is a dump - but who cares more

Why the high rating? 7/23/2006

I don't get the great recs for this hole in the wall pizza joint...A good pizza should taste good and not just be big and overloaded...not good...hard to eat...there are better pizzas in the Valley by far...this is Dominos level...not bad, not good, adequate. more
