Great BBQ experience! First time to this location, won't be our last! Staff and managers make it so comfortable! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 1/1/2014

The establishment is always welcoming and clean. The staff is friendly and very attentive. Their food is exceptionally good. The only issue I have is when I do get my food, the meat is always luke warm. I don't know if it is because it sits in the window to long or because that is they way it is served. Other than that, I love coming here. The service is great. more

Yuck, bad, and Im not talking about the food! 8/3/2011

This place needs to be put on blast. Ive kept my mouth shut for almost a year, but it's time the city of Nashville knows what's up with this place. BAD bad management. The gen manager is either clueless to what's going on in his restaurant, or in on it which is even sicker. Basically, the assistant manager that works there, a brown haired girl named Marty, was sleeping with one of the servers, who was much younger than her, and playing favorites with him. She would meet him and certain other employees at the bar after work and get drunk as you know what with members of staff, and it was just reallllllllllly gross. I mean, she tried to keep it a secret but then would meet up with everyone, so everyone knew about it but no one was ""allowed"" to say anything to the other two managers. She was a nasty person too. Horrible personality, and treated her staff like crap, if they were girls that were more attractive then her (which was basically almost all of them haha). She accused me of giving her boyfriend the eye one time, and then treated me badly until I put my two weeks notice in. News flash Marty, no one wants your boyfriend! He's GROSS. I just wasn't aware that managers were allowed to sleep with the people they are paying, Im pretty sure that's ILLEGAL, not to mention so gross. Just bad work enviroment all around, very sleazy. You all can call me bitter, or a liar, but a little investigating will prove Im not lying. EVERYONE knew about it. But hey! The food's not bad..... more

Awesome Barbeque 9/9/2010

I get this every time my family comes in town and I don't feel like cooking. Their barbeque and ribs are great and their rolls are awesome too. I've never eaten inside because they are always so packed, but the take out is great for a picnic. more

Sadly, I need to change my review. 10/30/2009

I originally posted a review in 10/09 and at that time Jim N Nick's was everything I said; however that has changed. The last three times we have eaten at this location have been a disappointment. The ribs have been either dry or fatty. The service is spotty and you never know what it will be. The last time the hostess barely acknowledged us, our drinks went unfilled, we received only one basket of muffins with no offer of refill and the server acted as though he was doing us a favor by waiting on us. It is a shame for they had something great going. Pros: Can't get enough of those muffins! Cons: Fatty meats, poor service. more

baby back ribs bigger than barry bonds biceps 2/21/2009

if you think barry bonds biceps were big, you should go in and order a slab of baby back ribs from jim n nicks. eric finney is to ribs like a duck is to water. if you order a slab of baby back ribs you better bring barry bonds biceps to pick them up with. they are so big, you would think they are on steriods. one of the cleanest restaurants, family oriented, all around good people. get you a basket of those cheese biscuits with some honey butter and they will pump up your washboard stomach. in today's economics dinner for 2 about $20, great service, good food and a great atmosphere. what more could you ask for a night out for you and your wife and family. A+ service. Pros: great parking - right in front of wal-mart Cons: you'll want more more

Best BBQ. 2/20/2009

I'm not the biggest fan of eat out BBQ. I always figured if it wasn't cooked on a grill in my backyard, it wasn't worth eating. I was wrong. Jim N Nicks smokes all of the meat selections to perfection. The ribs are pink on the inside and fall of the bone. The pulled pork and turkey are juicy. The pecan pie is heavenly. But I really go for the cheesy corn muffins. Pros: Great food Cons: All nashville area locations are 30 min away. more

OUTSTANDING barbecue! 6/24/2008

I have a fair amount of experience with barbecue, from Texas on north, and Jim N Nicks is pretty exceptional. They have smoking down to a fine art, their barbecue sauce is spot-on and the sides are excellent. Their hot links, spare ribs, cheese muffins and fresh-cut fries all get high marks, as does their house beer. Service was first-rate as well. It gets my highest recommendation. Pros: Great barbecue and sides, great service more

BEST BARBECUE IN NASHVILLE 6/15/2008

The service and food were impeccable. The friendly staff was very helpful and the recommendations were right on target. The fresh sides and the mouth watering cheese rolls are wonderful compliments to the juicy , fantastic tasting ribs and the perfectly cut and cooked rib eye steak. we will definitely return with each visit to Nashville. This is a restaurant we will gladly recommend to anyone wanting fresh good food with friendly family atmosphere. The best barbecue we have found in Nashville. We are from Texas and consider ourselves connoisseurs of great food especially barbecue. This place stands the test and makes an A in our book. more

Poor management 5/11/2008

My family and I visited Jim N Nicks every Friday night for almost 2 years. Weve had the same waitress Stacy who has become like a part of our family. However, our last 6 visits we have been pawned off on other servers and it has been brought to our attention that Stacy was let go against her will. We feeel as if we have not been treated the same since. Its a shame that restaurant owners care more about the money they make then the well being and happiness of the actual people that make the money for them. more

Good Food, Nice People 1/29/2008

I visit Nashville on occasion, and never fail to make a stop at Jim 'n' Nick's. They have perfectly smoked BBQ and, as a self-proclaimed slaw expert, some of the best coleslaw in the state. The food is complimented by the quick and friendly service that I have received each time I have stepped in the door. Pros: Excellent coleslaw, friendly servers Cons: None experienced more

Best BBQ around 1/29/2008

I have been to Jim-N-Nick's numerous times, and have yet to find a single complaint. Their entire menu is delicious, but the cheese biscuits are to die for. I usually get the spare ribs, and a side of their Mac The Cheese and creamed spinach. Everything is made with such care and dedication to homestyle cooking, that it is evident in every bite. The servers are very knowlegable, the management is fantastic. Not to mention, they have a great beer selection. They started their signature brew called Reverend Mudbone's Homegrown Hopshine that I highly recommend. It's a great complement to their sweet BBQ.\r All in all, Jim-N-Nick's is a great place to take your family, boss, date, grandmother, whomever. Give it a try yourself and I'm sure you wont be disappointed. Pros: Great service, even better food. Cons: I can never save room for pie. more

HORRIBLE 1/26/2008

My family and I witnessed our server and another girl making out and groping each other outside in there uniforms! My two small children witnessed it.. Very disppointing. Service was horrible. STICK TO WHITTS BBQ Pros: Good location Cons: Poor Service and Horrible MGMNT more

best nashville bbq 8/5/2007

the atmosphere is great for a family or group of business professionals and the prices are very reasonable. I ate lunch and filled up for under ten dollars. Try the pulled chicken bbq sandwich with baked beans. Just moved to nashville and it is by far the best taste I've had. Great service and really good sweet tea. highly recommended. more

The Ribeye is the best you will have anywhere! 7/24/2007

I am a regular at the Jim 'N Nick's in Nashville on my frequent visits to this fine city. I have liked everything I have ever tried there but I keep going back for the ribeye steak. You wouldn't normally think a steak would be good at a BBQ joint, but this is not your typical BBQ joint. The steak is out of this world! I live in the Birmingham area where jim and nicks was founded, so I know and love this restaurant. I have even had the pleasure of meeting Nick himself on several occasions. His passion for quality food and outstanding service are evident after talking with him for just a few moments. He is an artist when it comes to southern style food. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and have on numerous occasions. Keep up the good work Nick and staff. Pros: A lot of food for the money Cons: Can't think of any. more

Maybe this one is good 3/5/2007

I have only eaten at one Jim N Nicks and that was in Jasper, AL. The food made me sick and the service was terrible. Maybe the one in Nashville is better, but I think I've had my last deal with Jim N Nicks. more

Great BBQ 11/5/2006

I'm a big BBQ fan and there are a lot of good choices out there in Nashville, but Jim N Nicks has become my favorite. The pulled pork reminds me a lot of one of my old favorite haunts, Herbert's. \r \r What really makes this place stand out though are the sides. Every side I've had there has been awesome. My favorites are probably the onion rings and the mac & cheese. Also, the cheese biscuits they serve are too good. I could probably sit down and eat about two dozen of those things.\r \r The sauces they have are great. If you like some heat, then I'd recommend using the habanero barbecue sauce on your meat. Pros: Pulled Pork, Sides, Habanero BBQ Sauce more

Ok bbq 9/2/2006

The BBQ was ok it was not as good as everyone seemed to let on. It had a very bottled smoke flavor and the picture that looked like a dead pig wasen't very delightful to look at while I was eating. On of my friends even got her mouth cut by a bone in her so called Boneless chicken sandwhich. Pros: good mashed potatos Cons: bottled smoke flavor more

This is GREAT BBQ. 7/20/2006

I grew up in Memphis and spent many years in Texas, so I'm a brutal BBQ critic, and I have been shocked into silent bliss by every item I've tried on the Jim N Nicks menu. The pork links are nothing short of amazing. The brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, and turkey are pretty much perfect, especially with a shot of their Habanero sauce. And yes, not only are all the sides as amazing as any homemade you can find, the cheese biscuits (really more like fluffy vanilla muffins with so much shredded cheese in the batter that they fall apart, served with hand-whipped honey butter) are absolutely worth their own visit just to grab a dozen...\r \r ...which is what I'm about to go do right now. Excuse me. Pros: Not a single complaint or criticism whatsoever. Cons: Not a single complaint or criticism whatsoever. more

Best Southern sides in the city! 7/16/2006

Finally, Southern sides to rave about! Mashed potatoes like fluffy clouds (no turbulence), collard greens and cabbage greens that are almost as good as mom's! Mac n Cheese with cheese that is the proper color (and cheese one can actually see...) I typically don't bother ordering potato salad because I rarely ever can take a 2nd taste after the first. Not a potato salad fan. However, I'm not sure what's in the recipe, but I loved it. And, an essential in any really fabulous meal in my opinion, excellent sweet tea. I can't say enough about the sweet tea. It was the proper color (clear amber, not too dark, not too light), it didn't make me wonder if there had been a shortage on sugar that day, and nice (almost crushed) sized ice to go in it. I was quite stunned, and absolutely delighted. Next time, I might have room for a rib or two. more
