Great Place, keep your business local 8/16/2009

While searching for the number, I was very suprised to see any issues with Jerry's. I've been a customer 10+ years and purchased several bows for my children, niece, nephew, and myself. I've never been sold anything that was not A++ quality and nothing that Jerry would not stand behind 100%. If your looking for an archery shop (beginner to advanced) that will stand behind what they sell and provide excellent service at a fair price, give Jerry's a try. more

Jerry's Archery 4/5/2009

If Mathewman doesn’t like the service he received at Jerry’s Archery, then I invite him not come come back. He’s one less person I will have to stand in line behind when I’m trying to buy equipment or have a discussion regarding it. Objectively, I have nothing but positive to say about Jerry’s Archery. I know him only as a customer and have always found his advice sound. He has also never tried to sell me anything I didn’t not need, which is more than I can say for some other archery shops and I don’t enjoy driving clear to Newark to be bull-shitted by someone who probably has never shot competitively or ever bowhunted. On one occasion Jerry actually discussed the pros and cons of various products and even recommended I buy an item that was less expensive than what I originally wanted and the less expensive item did what I needed just as well, just as Jerry had told me it would. In my experience he has always stood behind his products and, again, in my opinion, he would prefer to deal with bows and equipment he sells because he is more familiar with those products and can therefore recommend or repair these items more readily than other things he is less familiar with. This is common sense and human nature. I would do the same. I buy equipment from Jerry’s Archery and I buy equipment from other shops as well. What I haven’t got from other shops is sound advice of the type I have received from Jerry’s Archery. When I have had some question regarding a piece of equipment, Jerry’s Archery has a range onsite and I have tested some things before purchasing (or after testing, sometimes not purchasing) them. Jerry doesn’t seem to mind, although it’s obvious he would rather make a sale, I get the impression that it isn’t worth it to him to make a quick sale at the expense of earning a dissatisfied customer. I have had discussions and friendly disagreements with him in the past (I first visited his shop in 2002 when I bought two bows, a recurve and a longbow) but if you don’t insult Jerry or cuss him out, he doesn’t get upset (imagine that); he’ll just explain his rationale and agree to disagree. I would recommend Jerry’s Archery and will continue to do business with Jerry’s Archery. It’s not the only Archery shop around, but it’s a good one. Pros: Knows what he's talking about, good in-stock selection Cons: Not open 7 days a week more

Jerry's continued 12/2/2008

Danny brought me my bow, and I took it to Archery Only, in Newark. We removed the zip ties, and realized what Gary had done to my sight. While the owner, Wayne, was trying unsucessfully to put my Seven Pin Back together, I called Jerry from outside of Archery Only, to ask why would Gary damage my sight. Jerry denied Gary did anything. We both cursed plenty. In Jerry's defense, I don't think he knew what Gary had done to my sight. I seriously doubt Jerry would have done something so childish. Jerry asked to talk to Wayne to explain how to fix it. Wayne and Jerry had at least a 5 minute conversation about how someone had tightened down the screw on my dovetail so tight, it could not be put back together. Additionally, someone had taken the time to randomally move every pin in the seven pin sight, so that it took 20 minutes to get them back in a straight line. Unfortuantely, Wayne was unable to fix the dovetail on the sight, so I had to take it to a metal fabricator and have him fix it. This cost me another $50 and 1 hour of my time. All of this could have been avoided, had Jerry's charged a reasonable price, or had Gary not felt the need to damage my sight. As for cash being asked for payment, it is against the law to request cash only, when you accept other forms of payment. That is why Jerry is back tracking on when Danny was informed this was a side job. He doesn't know when Danny was informed, because he was not there when my bow was dropped off. If I'm lying about the condition of my sight, call Wayne and ask him 510.795.0460. He cut off the zip ties on my case. Dan told me he does not do business with Jerry anymore, but will be adding to this post shortly. If all of this is not true, why would I take the time to write this. \r \r more

Jerry left a few things out 12/2/2008

I just now saw Jerry's rebuttal, and felt the need to clarify a few things. I have done business with Jerry. Last year, he fixed my RipCord Drop Away rest on my Prestige. After hearing Jerry did not like to work on equipment he did not sell Danny and I called him and asked if he would fix my rest. He said he would fix it , and he did a good job. I think he charged $40. I called and thanked him, and he said he would work on any of my bows, I have an LX, SQ2, Prestige, and Switchback, but would like for me to buy my next bow from him. If he had not said he would work on my bow, I would not have had Danny take it to him. Danny lives in Tracy, and I was leaving that night, and wanted my bow fixed when I got back in a week. According to Danny, Jerry wasn't even there when my bow was dropped off. Gary told Danny the shop did not want to work on other peoples equipment, but would for $150 cash. He did not say it was a side job, until Danny came back to pick up the bow. Danny left the bow with Gary, not knowing we were being taken advantage of. When I got back in town, Danny told me that Gary wanted $150 cash to install the rest and sight. Considering most shops charge less than $50. to install those two items, I called Gary and voiced my concern, and he said no big deal, I'll remove your sight and rest, and you don't have to pay. I said I was willing to pay, but not $150 cash. He said it was not negotiable, and to pick up my bow. When Danny picked up my bow, Gary had zip tied the bow case together, so Danny did not see what he had done to the sight. Continued \r \r more

rebuttal to Mr. Mathews 10/13/2008

Hi, my name is Jerry Coit, owner of Jerry?s Archery. \r Now that my busy season is over, I will address this blog from a so called Mathews man. \r First, his name is Ron Ledou, from R J L Corp, phone number is (510) 773-3007. Ron has never been in, or done business with Jerry?s Archery. \r His bow & accessories were brought into my shop by his friend Dan, a costumer of mine. I told Dan that Jerry?s Archery does not install accessories not purchased at my shop.\r My son, Gary told Dan he would take the bow and accessories home and install them for $150.00, Dan agreed to this price. Also Gary told Dan this deal had nothing to do with Jerry?s Archery, and that is why he wanted cash for doing the job. \r After doing the work, Gary called Dan and told him he could pick up the bow. \r After the work was done Ron called Gary to complain about the price, so Gary told Ron he did not need his money, and would remove the components and Dan could pick up the bow, (which Dan did.)\r Once again Ron has never been in Jerry?s Archery. \r As for credit cards Jerry?s Archery does take them, but since Ron has never done business with Jerry?s Archery, this has nothing to do with Ron. \r The fact is cash is the only thing I have to except, if you read any currency bill, this is printed on it:\r (this is legal tender for all debts, public and private)\r As for threatening to kick Ron?s A**, it was just the opposite Ron called my shop and told me he was going to kick mine & Gary?s A**, and I told him to come on and do that. I did swear a lot, when I was challenged, and so did Gary.\r I don?t know what happened to Ron?s sight after Dan picked it up and gave it to Ron.\r The only truthful thing Ron has said in this blog is, he?s NOT ?ever? welcome in Jerry?s Archery.\r And by the way, Dan still does business with Jerry?s Archery.\r Signed Jerry Coit owner\r Jerry?s Archery\r PS:Call or come by Jerry?s Archery and make up your own mind about who WAS, the J**k here. Pros: Archery Pro Shop, exclent service more

Avoid at all costs 6/21/2008

The worst bow shop ever. Jerry and Gary are jerks. Asked them to install brand new in the box rip cord rest and seven pin site. Went to pick up, they wanted $150 cash. Cash only even though they take credit cards. It is against the law, to demand cash when you take other forms of payment. When I complained about the price, they removed the components, but tightened down the screw on the dovetail on my seven pin so much, another bow shop could not put it together. When I called to ask why they did this, Jerry said they did not do anything to my bow, and to never to come into his F***ing Shop again, or he or his son would kick my a**. Stay away!! more
