for mexican food, i was pretty surprized the food was good considering it didn't come from a taco truck or some hole in the wall joint. getting a table there is nearly impossible and your best bet is to wait for a table in the bar area. the place is always packed with people who want to be seen and heard. overall the food was good and the place is for people who like the busy atmosphere. the service was ok. more

We went to the Irvine Spectrum location for a drink after work and the bartenders were so rude. I don't think I will ever go back. I do not recommend this to anyone who wants to have a nice relaxing drink after work or just a drink period. We paid 20.00 for 2 drinks to be harrassed and pushed out of the restuarant. I have never been treated so poorly before... and having worked in a restuarant I would never have treated any of my customers this way. more

Having eaten numerous times at the Irvine Spectrum location, I've recommended Javier's to everyone for the great Mexican food. But after receiving such poor service continuously at this location, I won't go back again. The arrogance and attitude that comes with the high prices you pay at this restaurant is not worth it. The Laguna Beach location had excellent food, excellent service and a great interior. We were two, and we didn't have to wait a single minute, although as far as we could see the entire restaurant, which is HUGE, despite the tiny storefront, was packed. We were seated in a patio type area and our waiter was prompt and respectful. However, we were having a very early dinner around 5 pm so I think reservations are quite important for weekends. I had the crab enchilada with tomatilla sauce which was EXCELLENT and the crab was so delicious. It came w/ beans and cheese and rice. They serve tortilla chips w/ spicy salsa up front which was also excellent. If you're looking for really good Mexican food that is Americanized, w/ fresh ingredients, this is the place. I've not been to the Laguma Location but have been to the Irvine Spectrum location three times. The ordinary Mexican Touirist dishes are just that ""ordinary"". The mole dishes are the best I've had in the U.S. Five places in Mexico are better for moles. The portion control for rice and beans is sparse. Unless you have an appetite or lust for great mole, Javier's is another over-priced Mexican-U.S. drive-by. more

I went to laguna beach on a sunday afternoon with my boyfriend and wanted to eat some Mexican food. It was quite crowded however we didn't think the wait would be too long since it was only 4:00p.m. - turns out we waited for 2 hours! I tried their famous margarita and it was ok, I had better. Their food was very fresh and delicious however their service sucked. I suggest making reservations before going and skip the margarita.
