Hidden Gem on Clement 9/13/2007

The food is delicious and inexpensive, and the service is swift and friendly. (Entrees are around $6.) The sauces are especially nice. As far as appetizers go, I like the lumpia and the spicy fries are awesome. As far as the entrees go, the nutmeg beef is great as is the calamari. Pros: Great food, great value Cons: Can't think of any more

NOT even Indonesian Food 3/26/2007

It is insulting to call this an Indonesian Restaurant, when the food was totally a plate of garbage and nothing resembles the real indonesian food. I went there about a month ago, looking at the menu and should have walked out right away. The spelling for the ""indonesian' food were all wrong. And when I spoke in Indonesian with the lady there, she was all confused. That's when I realized that she wasn't even Indonesian. Note that all Indonesian restaurants in the bay area are owned and run by indonesians. Pros: Nothing Cons: Misleading Restaurant's name - don't call it Indonesian restaurant, PLEASE. more

Great Chinese Food, lousy Indonesian Food 9/22/2005

If you are looking for low cost, fantastic tasting chinese food, this is the place. (They are liberal with MSG). However, the Indonesian food is sorely lacking, and authentic only by name. It makes me wonder if these people ever spent serious time in an Indonesian Kitchen. Pros: cheap, good chinese Cons: msg, not indonesian more

Burmese Delicacies Found Here 10/31/2004

On Clement Street Java stands as a humble storefront waiting for your visit. Once inside you're greeted with hospitality. Clean, quiet, and bright. Low noise level means you can speak without shouting. Big pane windows gives you the feel of sidewalk dining. Start with the samosas of the fist-size. Must have the beef satay and chicken satay and don't forget the sauce. The tea is excellent because it's brewed without scorching the tea leaves. Which means the finish is smooth without aftertaste. And stay for dessert, the fried banana and tea complement each other quite delightfully. more

Great Indonesian at Great Prices!!! 7/25/2004

Upon stumbling on a review here at Citysearch, I decided that this was too good a deal to pass up. When i entered the newly remodeled ""hole in the wall"" restaurant, i was greeted with a friendly smile and no wait!!! The menu was an eccentric mix of Indonesian/Chinese appetizers, main courses and deserts. I decided on the spicy fries, samosas, spicy fried rice and the chicken skewers topped with peanut sauce. All of these are as good as they sound. The portions are also a very healthy size. My mouth is watering as I write this review. The food was so good, i decided to get desert. The fried banana and ice cream is $2.75 and worth ever penny. I left paying less than $20 with tax and tip included. Overall, the experience was a 10.5. Service was great, food was amazing and the price was unbelievable. more

Great Indonesian, Low Prices 11/20/2002

This place is a little hole in the wall, but don't let the lack of ambience or decor throw you off. The food is fantastic and the prices are so low you'll wonder how they stay in business. On a recent trip I was able to get two entrees foir under seven bucks - and that was for dinner!!!! If you'r elooking for something unusual or are just on a budget and still want to treat yourself, give this little place a try. more
