Sometimes when you go with a group of friends, u want to relax and talk. This is NOT the place. Your food comes all at once and so does the check. There are better hibachi options more

This place use to be good when it was called japanica its called Tao now Asian fusion. The chinese must of took it over. I had lunch their on Sunday and the price of the rolls are good but they taste terrible, like old fish. I mean how can you mess up a roll. Anyways i would pass this up and go toanother one a true japanise sushi bar. It was much better when Walter and Jonny were running it. Pros: Not to expensive Cons: Sushi is not fresh more

Not too shabby!! 3/27/2008

Although Japanica's overall quality is somewhat flimsy and unreliable, it makes up for it in reasonably priced sushi rolls, and tasty scorpion bowls. (Ignore the rhyme!) The private rooms they have are enjoyable to sit in and create a more authentic Japanese experience. Kimwim- before hating on Jodella for having poor "grammer," why don't you check your's...it's "grammar." more

Horrible! 6/24/2007

I fully agree with the previous poster. My fiance and I have been great customers and it all ended today. My fiance picked up the food and the woman owner was SO rude. She screamed the total at him and reached for the card, never said thank you, and made him wait for 15 minutes before she even went up to greet him! We got take out for lunch and the second I opened the container, the room smelled of decrepit fish. After digging through my sushi and tempura lunchbox, I could not bring myself to even touch the tuna. It was discolored, with half of the tuna sushi a grey-ish color and falling off. The yellowtail was brown! My fiance called and they said that they would refund us the money. When he went back (I was violently ill at this point), the male owner was there and said he would only refund the tuna roll and handed him a $5 bill! My fiance picked up the tuna sushi and asked him if he thought that was alright to serve. The owner was all flustered because at this point the restaurant patrons were looking. He said he didn't have to smell it or eat it to know that it was good. My fiance dumped out the rice which came with our meal and as it mushed on the plate, the owner said nothing but, well if I don't like restaurants, I don't go back. We won't! I ended up terribly ill and had to go to the hospital. We called the authorities and you should speak up too! They went over there immediately but need more complaints to have a full blown investigation. Raw fish is dangerous enough-our lives and health are not things which should be taken lightly. Evidently, this couple does not put their customers first in both treatment and quality of food. Toshi, Wasa B, Murasaki, Ichiban-would NEVER serve decrepit fish and then throw $5 back because we were stupid enough to buy THEIR decrepit food! It's disgusting! We should rally together to boycott and bring down Japanica in the hopes that a new, better business, will open! Pros: NONE! Cons: decrepit food, bad customer service! more

The place that time forgot. 6/21/2007

"Ac-cen-tu-ate the positive" the old song goes. Japanica has always been entertaining; the at-the-table service is something we've enjoyed there, along with strong tropical potions of dubious ingredients, since the place was Benihana, a million years ago. Johnny, the general manager, treats us as if we're cherished old friends and calls us by name. We genuinely are saddened by the restaurant's decline over the past five years. A recent sushi platter was returned because the salmon had obviously seen better days, and tried to convey this by way of it's pungent aroma. I know it's unfair to complain about kids; but it seems that the only customers left are the folks whose children (the same ones you see running roughshod all over the supermarket - you know, *those* kids) insist that the family dinner out be taken there. The quality of help has declined to the point where ordering is like using a computer; one must "point and click." I say this because recent requests for rare steak, a side order of scallions, and more wasabi went ignored. A recent order of sake contained the remnants of chopstick paper. A lady came to our table and accused us of putting it in there to obtain more sake (we'd already drunk 2 small cups). This lady, I believe, is one of the owners and is not a pleasant person. She screams in Japanese at her staff in plain view of the customers and it's embarassing. We gave them a pass but our last meal there was really unpleasant; the hibachi chef was comical in his lack of proficiency. My dry martini was half stale vermouth. So I ordered a gin on the rocks. What was supposed to be a brand name wasn't. We'll not go back, given the myriad choices available in the area. And it's too bad. We have attached many a fond memory to this place and the loss is heartfelt. Pros: Fun location and hassle-free parking. Cons: Poor, if inedible food. Decline in service over 5 years. more

Kimwim, If you are going to criticize someone's ability to articulate themselves, then you may want to take a few basic English courses first. You have no conception of tense, you spelled recommend with a "t" and your overall level of discourse is equivalent to that of an adolescent. On a more relevant note..the sushi is good. I like the Spider Roll and the Black Dragon Roll. more

Jodella, Maybe they were responding to your lack of writing, grammer, punctuation and spelling ability? We've always had a wonderful lunch at Japanica, no problem with understanding the waitstaff, or they understanding us. I highly recomment their sushi! more

we went for lunch. The waiter didnt speak very good english, which made questions tough, and he spilled an etire glass of water in my lap and the manager didnt try to ccomp me more than a towel to dry myself. The tempura was great. The sushi was just allright. Their sticky rice isnt sticky. Fish was fresh though. more

Very Nice! 5/26/2006

Our first visit to Japanica was very nice. We enjoyed the food and drink and were especially impressed with how much the kid's liked everything. The staff and especially our waiter treated them very well. Not something you find at every restaurant now-a-days which can turn a good dining experience bad rather quickly. They loved it and are still talking about the hibachi and the flaming fired ice cream. Prices are more than reasonable and the selection of wine and beer was outstanding. Watch out for that hot saki. It's habit forming! We will be sure to return and bring the kids. Pros: Kid Friendly, Reasonbly Priced, Nice Atmosphere Cons: Exchange Parking more
