It is true as in other reviews the scene of the place is very bar lite, which makes the restaurant more intuitive. The food was great well portioned and very good. reasonably priced as well. the staff was very compensating and customizing the orders was a no trouble. I love the most of all the seclusion of the restaurant itself its not jammed packed and not feverishly loud. Its a quiet get-away. Jade Dragon is my favorite place to go with my family to have old fashion chinese food. The egg foo young is one of the best in town. My kids love the chicken fried rice and the crab puff. The waitress that helped us english wasn't the greatest, but very friendly, the vegetable dish is fresh and crispy. more

New to town, I decided to look up a Chinese restaurant on this site and order takeout based on the reviews. This place had 4 of 5 stars. A couple of bad reviews, but mostly glowing. The restaurant itself is large, poorly lit and badly decorated, almost empty of diners and smelled stale and like old grease. Despite this I placed my order, telling myself, ""4 stars, 4 stars..."" My family was disgusted by the slop I brought home. It was literally inedible. We each tasted a bit of everything and then threw it away and ate apples for dinner. The food was over sauced with ketchup-y tasting thick goop, slimy, heavy - none of it tasted like any Chinese food I've eaten on any coast of this country! Other dishes were without flavor, except for red pepper and grease. AVOID! more

I am disappointed by the food. It was bland and grossly over priced. The waitress was rude, but when I smile at her rude comment and dismissed it, she came around. Still you shouldn't have to convince the wait staff to be nice to you. The egg rolls made me sick to my stomach and didn't taste like anything, it was weird. The sweet and sour shrimp was soggy after it had just been made! The rice was so dry I thought it had been made yesterday. I asked for vegetable fried rice and they charged me extra then gave me pork fried rice. The egg drop soup was actually the worst I've ever had, they threw food 4 less frozen vegetables in there I swear it. I'm so sad that this place sucked. We love Jade Dragon! They have the BEST chinese food anywhere in Portland. The owners are some of the best people that you could ever hope to meet. If you are looking for Fine Dining, look elsewhere. This is a family run restaurant, and very family friendly. They always ask how we are doing and make sure to remember our names and our regular orders. My daughter and I are veggie, my husband is not. They are always willing to make anything we want with tofu or vegetables and make sure as to never let it get mingled with his dishes. All of their sauces are made from scratch, and made to order. If anything is not to your liking, they bend over backwards to make it perfect for you. The prices are great and the portions are huge. We always take leftovers home. This is the only place we eat chinese food. This is one of the few places left with many sets of regular customers. Not sure what the last comment was all about. I personally think the place is awesome for American Chinese food. Their portions are reasonable, actually very generous for its price. You'll see when you order one of their combination dinners, The food is served piled high and who doesn't want that for just under $8.00? With this price, don't expect this to be a high end restaurant. It's just a normal family restaurant where you can be yourself. I personally rather be in this kind of atmosphere than a snooty place where it's always crowded, you can barely hear what others are saying and have to wait 45 minutes to get a table.\r \r Plus, the people there are very friendly. I met the owners when they first opened and they let me take a tour inside the kitchen. Met the chefs, tried talking to them but they only speak chinese, still they happily greeted me with a friendly hello. And to my surprise, unlike many restaurants, none of their foods were premade. Everything was fresh.\r \r Don't forget about the bar, the bartender is very friendly and they have a movie night every Wednesdays.\r \r One thing I do agree with the last comment, their food tend to be a little greasy but you can always make a request to use less oil. How I wish the Jade Dragon was even close to average Chinese dining. It's convenient to Hillsdale, portions are large, ample parking, and friendly waitstaff. Unfortunately, our two visits have been very disappointing. The waitstaff are not very knowledgeable about the menu, so there is no assurance after explaining your food's preparation that it will be anything close to reality. Every dish we've had has been exceptionally greasy and laden with sweet sauce. Can't comment on flavor because there is no way to taste around the grease and sweet. Theirs is not the typical Chinese menu, no duck for instance, and trying some of the specialty dishes is not recommended. Please, JD, take it up a notch! Best Chinese food in town, plentiful servings, great atmosphere, excellent food. I can't wait to try another authentic Chinese dish next week. This place is great and has a variety of dishes to choose from. It also has a lounge and full bar if you desire. more
