J B's Steakhouse

I have lived in the Cy-Fair area since 1972. JB's has been around since the late 70's or early 80's. They used to serve barbeque and chicken fried steaks. It was nothing special. My wife and I decided to try it out again a couple of months ago. We went at lunch, and just ate some barbeque. It is really good, and the sauce has a great flavor. You get a lot of food too. Since that time, we have went back and eaten the steak and seafood. The steak was delicious and really tender. The baked potatoe was large. The prices are really reasonable too. They have a jazz band on friday nights, and there are big screen televisions all around the room. The service could be a little better, but the food far outways any service issues. I am considered a steak snob by many of my friends and family. I've been to all of the steakhouses around and many have been extremely overrated(Pappas, Houston's, Vic and Anthonys) and over priced. I really couldn't believe that they serve prime beef , which as anyone who knows anything about steak is the top of the beef pyramid, at such a reasonable price. I had there new item which was the Italian filet mignon and my wife had the lobster and scallops combo. My steak was served over a red wine demi-glace sauce topped with portabello mushrooms and then had parmasean cheese melted over that, pure steak heaven. My wifes lobster was baked and her jumbo scallops were fried, they were awesome and portions were big. I will definately be back time and again. Our waitress was great and gave very punctual service even though she was swamped with other tables. I disagree with the prevous reviews. I have been in the same neighborhood since 1976, and I remember when this restaurant opened. Over the years, in general, this establishment has consistently offered good down home family fare at decent prices with decent service. A group of friends and I meet there once a month for breakfast, and the service is good, the coffee is fresh and refilled constantly and the waitstaff never minds that there are several of us and we have to put tables together and we laugh and talk a lot and greet friends, neighbors and acquaintances as they come in. As a matter of fact, if I go in there at breakfast time, I am asked by the manager, what would I like with my coffee? That tells me that the staff notices who is there often and remembers things. We ordered Prime Rib. It was tough. Even the tail which is usually tender was not. I would expect better for $20. I told the waiter who replied it was the first time he heard that. He took my plate and threw it away. He offered no solutions. He brought us the bill without asking if we would like anything more. I remember him stating when I asked if it was RARE/LEAN... If it isn't he would bring another piece. After 13 years in the business myself, problems with food are beyond the control of the waitstaff. But he did not offer assistance. I didn't leave a tip. I left a note for management. The owner called while driving home. He asked why we didn't tip. We told him we left a note explaining our experience.
