The Scene
In October 2002, a kitchen fire destroyed this property's historic 1895 inn. Although the building was full, no one was hurt. Undaunted by the disaster, the innkeepers already have a new inn under construction with a targeted completion date of December 2003. The lovely Carriage House and Cottages were untouched by the fire.
The Details
Pre-fire, this property regularly raked in awards from national travel magazines and such highly esteemed critics as Wine Spectator. The new inn will stay true to many of the same architectural elements designed by Stanford White, including a gambrel roof. New to the structure (which will almost double the size of the old place) will be a turret, wrap-around porch, a 10,000-bottle wine cellar and three spa rooms for rubs, wraps and the signature Ahh ... Moondance Massage. The Carriage House has a friendly Great Room and six bedrooms with private baths. The Cottages look like tiny red barns and offer true seclusion. All stays include full breakfast and afternoon tea. The inn is extremely popular for romantic getaways, with its busiest seasons being October and New Year's Eve. Special rates are being offered to guests who book before the grand reopening.
