The only redeeming items were the samosas & naan. Masala was bland & watery, no spice at all. On top of that, before I could get my wallet out for the delivery driver he was demanding a tip! Yes I said demanding. Wont be ordering again. more

Love this place. It is our go-to Indian place. The Saag Paneer is so rich and flavorful and the Chicken dishes are tasty and tender. Always fast and delicious. more

Great food. Recommend. Note when you get "spicy," it's insanely spicy. But the medium could isn't as spicy as you'd think. more

Not bad for take out or delivery 12/13/2007

Although the ambiance is clean, well-lit, and pleasant the cuisine failed to live up to our expectations: it was just average. The saag paneer seemed to be prepared from canned spinach and the lamb tikki seemed over-cooked as if it had been warming since lunch (although the sauce was tasty). The samosa was heavy and tasted bland. On the other hand we enjoyed the tasty chai. The wait staff was well-intended and attentive, but disorganized, confused, and forgot some of our order how we wanted our meals spiced. We dine at many Indian restaurants and this one is lost in the pack. Not bad for take out, or a quick, simple meal. Unremarkable and average. There are better choices. Pros: ambiance Cons: service more

Poor customer service 11/17/2007

Decent food but terrible service. After waiting not too long for the order, I opened all the items but did not find my samosas. I then realized that I had received the wrong order, I looked at the ticket and it was obvious that the driver switched my order with another customer as their address was scratched out and mine written above it. Upon calling the restaurant, the manager suggested I just keep the order delivered as it was of slightly greater value than what I ordered and they would ""give me some samosas"" the next time. I politely expressed dissatisfaction with this as the order delivered did not include a single item I had ordered. He then placed me on hold and let the call drop. I reluctantly started to eat the food delivered as I was hungry when the delivery driver called and said he would be back by to pick up the mistaken order. I informed him that I had already begun on the food but that I would at least like to receive my samosas. He just grunted something noncommittal and I did not hear from them again. Pros: The food is good Cons: Customer service leaves much to be desired more

good food but watch out for the extras 8/2/2006

I have an addiction to Indian buffets but in an effort not to incapacitate ourselves for the rest of the day, my husband and I dined with some friends here for dinner. They had come previously and had enjoyed the food. I would concur. We had several vegetarian appetizers and shared an entree assortment including lamb, chicken, and vegetable dishes -- all were excellent. The naan arrived fresh out of the oven. My only complaint would be that servers are not the friendliest and they will take the liberty to add or assume multiple orders of rice, naan, appetizers if they think more are appropriate for the table -- we got 2 orders of samosas for 4 people when we only wanted one and 4 orders of Naan and rice which was way too much for the table. The bill for the evening was still very reasonable by San Francisco standards but the additional $1 here $2 there does add up. So enjoy the great food but be specific about the number of sides/extras you want to order more

India Clay Oven is GREAT! 3/24/2006

As a person who frequently dines out, I'm usually a bit picky about my places. Everything at India Clay Oven is great-- the food is delicious of course, but more importantly, the staff anticipates your needs before they become needs, and have a certain grace that is lacking in many places. The ambience is wonderful: a wall made of windows allows you to see the outside world, while the inside is decorated with lovely wood and soft lighting. I enjoy every aspect of this place, and it passes my test of service: the water glasses are never empty. I highly recommend this place for those who care about both the quality of the meal and the environment you enjoy it in. Pros: Excellent service, Good Music, Happy folks inside Cons: none! more

Go for the lunch buffet 12/25/2005

The food is very good, as I have eaten a ton of Indian food (worked at an Indian company for years). Prices for dinner are OK, but the all-you-can-eat lunch buffet cannot be beat. The items in the buffet are limited, but include the basics such as tandoori chicken and tikka masala, etc. It's $8. One of the best deals in town for lunch, especialy for Indian which tends to be pricey. After reading a few of the other reviews, I wanted to add more comments. I find the service to be good, not great. However, I have never been dissuaded from eating there because of the service. It's good enough of a restaurant to go and try it for yourself. You wll be pleased, although you also will see a *small* amount of what the other reviewers say needs improvement. Pros: very good food more

User review by amorg 11/1/2005

As many have said before, the worst aspect of this spot is the lousy service. Although the food is okay, the value is quite poor. $12 entree and rice not included?! The food should be better and/or in bigger portions for the prices. The decor makes for a good date spot, but I think it's telling that I've never seen Indians eating there. Pros: decor, high ceilings , classy feel Cons: service, stale naan more

Good and Bad -it's gotten better 8/24/2005

OK, let me balance out some of the other reviews. I went alone only due to the fact that I had a coupon from the Entertainment Book. The head waiter doesn't look happy this is true, and I see he is skimpy on the rice and other waiters weren't. The owner I think was making up for it by being nice. Paying for the rice is silly because you need it, but it is delicious, so was the bread. The waiter recommended the chicken clay pot, the chicken came sizzling but dry. I picked a spicy prawn dish and a lamb dish and it was great. Order right and you'll be happy. I am going with a friend next week so we will see. They are small portions so it can get pricy, if you are on a diet but love food, this is good to have small portions. Pros: some food, the decoration, clean bathroom Cons: wait staff, parking, price w/small dishes more

Uninspiring 6/7/2005

Nice room I guess; we got food to go. Were treated with a certain amount of surliness both on the phone and while paying for what we found to be mediocre Indian. Ordered three entrees; didn't come with rice or naan, so we paid extra for that and got barely enough for one person. Gave us chicken when we ordered lamb. Too many good Indian places in the city to bother with this ripoff joint. Pros: nice space, convenient location Cons: mediocre food, surly staff, overpriced more
