Room is TINY, only bed fits, no space even for luggage. One little window, view of a wall. Next time for 200$ per night I will choose a private apppartmnets to rent. more

This place is a fairy tale! 9/18/2010

I stayed at the Herald Square hotel just for one nigth, but I will definitely go back soon! The hotel is close to everything I like to see and do in the city. I noticed how every little thing in the hotel?s decoration is well connected to its building history. I loved the chairs they have in the lobby where we can see the street enjoying a warm cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate available to all guests at no cost! The bathroom was very clean with soft and thick towels and aveda?s hand and bath soap. However, the best part of staying at the Harold Square hotel was its comfortable beds and pillows. I went to a concert at Madison square garden, which is just a block or two away from the hotel, and when I came back in the middle of the night I crawled into the bed and slept like a baby! Everything in this hotel was two thumbs up.. from the friendly staff, the complementary coffee, to its great location and rate. I could not ask for a better deal! I definitely recommend this hotel to any one looking for a place to stay in the big apple. more

Best Night's Sleep in Manhattan 8/4/2010

I spent two nights at the Herald Square hotel and loved it. You can't beat the price, the value, and their comfortable beds. I've done quite a bit of traveling in my day and have yet to find a bed as comfortable as the bed I had in Herald Square. The other thing I found unique at the Herald Square was the amount of great artwork they had throughout the halls and in the rooms. All artwork looked original and had a great old-school New York feel. Five-Stars all the way! more

Herald Square Hotel - Perfect! 8/3/2010

Loved this quaint affordable hotel within walking distance of everything in Manhattan. Seriously! Stayed in one of the ""new"" (remodeled) rooms. Loved the queen-size brass bed with wonderful linens (this hotel just won the Citysearch ""Best Comfy Bed in New York"" award), the high ceilings, the flat screen TV, the spacious bathroom with rainspout shower (I wanted to stay in the shower forever), and the Aveda amenities. Free coffee and free New York Posts available in the lobby. And best of all, free wi-fi in all of the rooms! The comfy leather chairs in the front lobby overlooking the street are perfect to curl up in and read the Village Voice, also available here. A lot of value for your bucks! more

A Hidden NYC Gem! 7/11/2009

When I am in Paris, I stay in the 6eme arrondissement and surround myself in a neighborhood rich with Bohemian Parisian artistic culture that provides a quaint feel. When I travel to New York City, I look for the same quaint feel but I want the New York City vibe and culture. We all know how expensive the city that never sleeps can be and how much there is to see and do. So when I stay in this great metropolis, I want to be able to access New York City but on a respectable budget. And I always seem to find myself at the same location, The Herald Square Hotel. What a fantastic little gem! The accommodations are outstanding, the staff is welcoming, the location is superb (only a few blocks from Penn Station and the subway) and if I really get lazy and don't want to head too far but I feel like taking in some New York energy, there is a trendy and very New York type of restaurant-cafe next-door. On my next trip up to New York City, I will stay at the same location. I highly recommend it! Pros: Everything. Cons: Zero. more

Great Life and Times at the Herald Square Hotel! 2/13/2009

We stayed at the Herald Square Hotel in New York City recently, and loved it! The hotel is convenient to everything, only a few safe walking blocks away from Madison Square Garden and Times Square. It's a very classically styled place. We traveled with a friend who stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms, done over in the period style of the historical significance of the hotel, and just beautifully restored. But our room was also wonderful. There is definitely a feel to the building that you are in the place where Time and Life magazines were done. The hotel has pictures of from the covers of the magazines that used to be created there hanging in the narrow hallways. The marble circular stairs bring you into the halls at each floor but yes, there is an elevator too! While there is no restaurant or room service, the breakfast area in the lobby has coffee, tea and hot chocolate available, and there are a couple of places very close by, including a wine bar next door, a market just down the street with great bagels, and a Dunkin' Donuts/Baskin-Robbins just up the street. The lobby is small, but once you enter your room you forget about that and you just enjoy being there. The towels were thick and bed linens were elegant, white comforters, crisp sheets and classic cotton blankets. The bathroom was grand, and the mattresses and pillows were top of the line. Flat screen big TVs and free high speed internet service were in both rooms. It's a great place to stay! more

My Favorite Hotel in NYC 10/26/2008

My mom and I travel to NYC alot, and we've stayed at an array of places, including the Waldorf-Astoria. However, the Herald Square hotel is the best place we've stayed. It's an old-apartment building, so it has a very homey feel. The lobby is more of an apartment-lobby than a hotel lobby, and it is very basic, and the staff buzzes you in instead of having a doorman. However, in the lobby, there are some tables and chairs. There is also a cappuccino machine and coffee machines in the lobby. The rooms are very cozy. I highly recommend staying here! It's a great value! more

Great Value In The Heart Of The City... 2/15/2008

We recently stayed at the Herald Square Hotel and after much researching decided we'd give it a go seeing as the location and price were great. When we arrived we noticed they were doing soem exterior renovations, upon walking inside i see that the lobby isn't very upscale and I become a little concerned. The happways leading to the room reminded me of a dorm hall, but maybe it's because of tiled floors. Overall, the room was very nice, super comfy, flat screen tv and free HBO! The bathroom was also very large and recently renovated with aveda soap included. However when i showered in the morning I had a problem with the water going from warm to ice cold and then having to wait a minute or so to go back to warm. Oh, there was no thermostat in the room and the room was extremely warm, so we had to use the AC in the middle of January. All in all an amazing value and would definitely recommend and stay here again. more

Best Value For Budget 1/2/2008

Found this hotel on Expedia -- which did not calculate all the various taxes that would be included, so beware of the ""$97 a night"" ad -- it's closer to about $130 after all taxes have been added. BUT it is STILL the best deal ever! Rooms were clean and remodeled with great beds; rooms were overall very nice, although you could hear everyone and anyone else who was entering or exiting their room. more

Nice hotel, awesome location 9/13/2007

Even if this hotel was terrible, the location cannot be beat. So close to Macy's (maybe a little too close, my wallet thinks!), right by Penn Station so that you can hop on any subway train to take you to all parts of NYC. Street is quiet (for NY) even though it is in a busy area. Pros: Location, rooms Cons: nothing more

Amazing Location! Super Clean! Friendly Staff! 9/13/2007

This hotel is New York City's best kept secret. Seriously. Pros: Huge rooms and bathrooms, super clean, amazing location Cons: Dimly lit room, small lobby, tiny elevators more
