Hotel Chelsea open a new concept and demand about my taste on places to stay in New York. Amazing place, that seems a museum and art galery together . Ideally located it

Nicely cared hotel 9/9/2010

Hotel Chelsea you can found in the center of New York. Its a nicely cared hotel continuing the atmosphere of the gold age. The rooms are entirely in a classic style and the modern style lovers will not really fit into here. By the wide stairs you will enter common rooms, where one is also located in the century hall. Hotel owns transport sercice. All credit card types are available to use. more

My favorite hotel in New York 9/8/2010

Who loves history, they should certainly spend a few nights in the Hotel Chelsea in New York. We did so and I can tell you that the murals that you see here are truly incredible. We were lucky that a gentleman of the staff is our old acquaintance, and thus led us into the room and artists, where everyone cares. In the room were some small things, but we were not dirt. If you ever go to New York, certainly overnight stay in the Chelsea Hotel!!! more

Hotel Chelsea is horrible 9/8/2010

I was not happy in this budget hotel at all . My room was dirty and my windows did not open. The room was still a terrible odor. At the reception, I was complaining at the recept but my request was refused. Hotel Chelsea is the old hotel and needed to be reconstructed. I am with nothing worse yet met. About to eat I'd rather not mention. My stomach did not spend any food. The hotel also has a problem with services, because the hotel does not offer any. Close to the hotel about five minutes by taxi is Times Square. Hotel location is perfect, but this budget hotel is not worth anything. Never again. more

Hoel Chelsea 9/8/2010

We stayed in the Chelsea Hotel and we were happy with everything. We have seen several reviews on the internet that the hotel is very dirty and old and it occurs in a hotel cockroaches. At the reception were very willing and friendly and there was no problem of language barriers. Our double room was clean and perfectly tidy and the bathroom were no cockroaches. I was afraid that if it's not a good budget hotel but the opposite was true. The hotel is located in the center N.Y. and around the hotel there are good restaurants and cafes. So no problems. The hotel taxi will take you anywhere you want, and free cell. We were pleasantly surprised. more

Better than nothing. 8/2/2010

Really the Chelsea hotel is a Hostal. And I've stayed in a number of them, so not knocking hostals. They are awesome for budget travelers and students. I just think they should be clearer about this on the website so you are not expecting something more. The lobby is cute and artsy, and the overall structure of the building is interesting, but the rooms are not nice. And like others below, I did not feel secure that someone couldnt just bust into my room at anytime--from inside or from out, as the balcony door seems accessable to anyone. BUT--I have to say that the bed was comfortable, there was Cable TV, and the AC worked better here than at hotels twice the price. Bathroom clean, and the toiletries much better than you would expect at such a run-down hotel. I would stay here again only if in a pinch--or if traveling in a group. Pros: Great AC, good location, a comfortable bed Cons: Dirtyish even for a Hostal more

Horrible place to stay 7/24/2010

This place is a dump. My door wouldnt lock. Got an attitude from them when I told them that. No air in the room and the bathroom shower wouldnt work. It was a mess. Peoples stuff thrown all over the bathroom. Dorms are better than this place. The lobby is nice but once you walk off the elevator your in a slum. Its disgusting. Balcony divider to the room next to me was down so the guy next to me could just walk on over to my room. Would have been nice if they stated the room had no air. In summer in NYC is horrendous. I would save your hard earned $$ and stay else where. A Hostel would be cleaner and better. I would rather sleep on a subway bench. Cons: EVERYTHING IN THE HOTEL!!!!!!!!! more

I am forever in love with this hotel 12/5/2008

My boyfriend and I have stayed here twice (he surprised me both times)... because I have always been fascinated with the building and its history. The hotel is under new ownership and is being renovated (for good reasons i'm sure) but For the full ""chelsea"" feel of the hotel i recommend going soon, before its lost to a new age. Pros: Full of character and romance (and great restaurant downstairs-El Qijote) Cons: Stanly Bard isn't there anymore more

The wonderful Hotel Chelsea in NYC! 2/27/2008

My stay at the Hotel Chelsea exceeded my expectations. The staff was friendly and knowledgable. The rooms were beautiful, glamorous and comfortable. The lobby and stairwell were full of beautiful art. Pros: Ambiance, service, artwork, great staff, location, wood and marble floors, clean Cons: no irons or hairdryers more

Overprice & smelly hotel 8/8/2007

It smells badly like dead fishes in the lobby, rooms, and especially the elevator. Because we arrived at the hotel at very late night, they ran out of the room for the price we reserved and upgraded us. They just told us that we need to move to the next day without any further information about exactly when to move. The next day came and they moved our luggages only in the room without asking or call us and tossed our personal things we left in the bathroom. The new room cost $250/per night but it absolutely wasn't and never won't be worth it. It was disgusting. The room smelled and the bottom of the bathtube looked horriblely dark as if it has been mildewed so that I couldn't even stand for taking a shower and I had to stop breathing in order to use the toilet. In such a bad condition, the owner still told us how wonderful that room is so that I doubted if he is blind. This hotel is only worth it to take a look of their art displays in the lobby. Don't be cheated by the comments made on the magazines which introduced it. I wonder whoever wrote down those good comments about this hotel really have ever stayed in this hotel cause if you stay in this hotel even at a upscale room, you won't miss the stinky smell. Save the money to a hotel that is worth the price you pay. The quality of this hotel and its services don't even meet the AVERAGE level. Cons: bad services, smell everywher more

Gross 3/2/2003

The lobby, elevator, and hallways smell. The rooms are dusty and the air vents are black because they have so much dirt on them. I would not ever consider staying there. more

The Chelsea: a Bohemian Artist's dream 6/26/2002

Stayed there back in '95. Loved it. Ask for a room facing the back. great view! Reasonable rates. Located near many attractions. A great place for young college students with an appreciation for art. more

Just like home 5/16/2002

Find beautiful, original artwork in the lobby and hallways. Warm and welcoming, the hotel feels like home from the moment you arrive, as long as ""home"" is more cozy than modern and you value character over lavish amenities. On my last visit I was offered a free upgrade to a studio suite which I greatly appreciated (I was staying here for more than a week). Unfortunately it took nearly 7 days for them to fix the broken TV in my room. Great restaurants in Chelsea. Walking distance to the village. more
