Authentic Martial Arts!! 6/17/2011

Finally, Truly "AUTHENTIC" Martial Arts!!! I have been a serious fighter for most of my life. I spent years as a wrestler, a boxer and a studier of many fighting disciplines. In all of those years, I have found that finding a truly gifted, dedicated and knowledgeable teacher, in any fighting discipline, is extremely difficult. That is why I count myself blessed to have found Grandmaster Soon Pil Hong of Hong's USA Taekwondo, Habgido and Gumdo!! Grandmaster Hong was trained in the authentic martial arts of Korea and has dedicated over 42 years to mastering it to perfection. He is well known and respected throughout the martial arts world, taught many professional and competitive fighters, as well as, Olympic hopefuls. His enthusiasm, skill and expertise has been extremely valuable to me and I have learned more about fighting from him in the last year than I have in the nearly 15 years prior! For this, I am both grateful and honored to be a part of his school. I would recommend his school (Dojang) to any serious fighter, to any adult truly interested in learning pure martial arts, to kids of all ages looking to one day become champions, to troubled kids in need of discipline and special needs children and adults who seek an arena that builds their bodies and improves their quality of life. Hong's USA is second to none in Korean figting disciplines and Grandmaster Hong is the greatest fighting instructor I have ever known! In 15 years, I have known many. more

  • The Taek Kyon trained warriors became known as the Hwarang. The Hwarang set up a military academy for the sons of royalty in Silla called Hwarang-do, which means "the way of flowering manhood." The guiding principles of the Hwarang warriors were loyalty, filial duty, trustworthiness, valor, and justice. The makeup of the Hwarang-do education was based on the Five Codes of Human Conduct written by a Buddhist scholar, fundamental education, Taek Kyon and social skills. Taek Kyon was spread throughout Korea because the Hwarang traveled all around the peninsula to learn about the other regions and people. The modern period of Taekwondo began with the liberation of Korea in 1945 after World War II. Korea wanted to eliminate Japanese influences (in martial arts) and began to unite the various martial arts schools and styles into a single style and national sport. In 1965, the name Taekwondo was chosen to represent this unified style of Korean martial arts.
