I had been waiting a while to try Hoggy's. I had always heard they were pretty good, so I thought I would give them a whirl.
First of all, the restaurant was very cold. My wife had to get extra clothes out of our car to get warm enough for dinner. The manager was unable to turn on the fireplace for us, we were just hoping for a little extra heat. Finally we moved to a table out of the draft; it was a little better - still cold, but at least out of the breeze.
My wife ordered pulled BBQ chicken, while I ordered a full rack of ribs. The pulled chicken was pretty good; the sides were also good, including slaw and macaroni and cheese.
I am far from being a ""rib snob"" let me say that right away. But, I DO enjoy a nice rack of ribs from time to time. Unfortunately Hoggy's ribs were the worst I have ever had, anywhere, at any price, much less $19.99. They were so tough and dry they could barely be chewed off the bone; they were almost the texture of jerky. They seemed to have been cooked so long that there was virtually no flavor other than the coating of BBQ sauce. I kept wondering about Hoggy's advertisements for ""tender smoked ribs"" as I resolutely chewed my way around each of the bones in the rack.
My only guess is that since we had arrived early for dinner, that the manager thought they would make a quick $ by serving racks that were way, way past their useful life. Or maybe the manager was paying no attention to the quality of the racks they were serving; either way, Hoggy's ribs were simply atrocious.
I see other people posting here that seemed to have better experiences. All I can say is that I dropped my first and last $ in this restaurant.
Pros: Macaroni was not too bad
Cons: Poor quality ribs
