There used to be a few Chicago dog places in the Detroit area. This one seems to be the only one left. I go here every time I am in Troy because they do such a fine job. First of all they use authentic ingredients. If you go to a Chicago dog place in the windy city, there is only one brand of hot dog used. Yes it is Vienna. There is only one brand of roll, one kind of Italian bread used for the Italian Beef sandwiches, etc. Hippo has them all. I lived in Chicago for a few years and when my wife and I recently passed by Hippos on a recent Saturday, we immediately knew what we had to do. So in we went to Hippos. Now I love a good Chicago dog. I have even ordered a Vienna properly served with flourescent green relish, a cucumber slice, a slice of tomato, sport peppers, onions and celery salt in Hong Kong. (That's the way a Chicago dog is always served) But even though I love these Chicago dogs properly prepared, I have to admit my weakness in a Chicago dog place is an Italian Beef Combo. What s that, you ask? It is a kind of marinated roast beef served on Italian bread with a big Italian suasage riunning down the middle. It is usually served with sauteed peppers and onions and with Italian gravy which is kind of like au jus. You can get it with red sauce too if you like, but this is not the way most Chicagoans eat it. And if you like it spicy ask them to add the jairdineire pepers. Man, that is a sandwich! If they do it right, and Hippos does, they will puit enough Italian gravy on it that is hard to eat because it is dripping. Just lean over the counter and let it drip on anything but your front. \r

Enjoy!
Pros: The Italian Beef Combo is the best!
