Walking backwards 5/7/2016

Nice place to dine! The food is superb, but a bit pricey. Here's the problem. The chef, obviously doesn't like black people. Our whole table heard him say "why are there so many black people"Apparently he was trying to say it without anyone hearing him but we clearly heard him. It's 2016 & you're still uncomfortable with people of different colors! You need to reevaluate life! What you said was very offensive & embarrassing because i am also white myself & i would hate for my fellow americans to feel that we're all that way. I apologize on this idiot's behalf!! more

Great food and service 12/27/2007

We have a standing reservation on football weekends on Friday nights and have never been disappointed. Even on the busiest games, they take very good care of their customers and the few times the service has been a little slow, they have more than made up for it keeping the drinks coming and management checking on us. Great place for "star" sightings! Teri C more

Specials 11/15/2007

I worked at Hill-Top Grille for about 8 months. 1st of all if you want your moneys worth from this place get the daily specials. The menu is over priced, but i liked the food we cooked. Te best steak is the Blue filet mignon, the best sea food is a tie w/ the crab cakes and the crab au gratin garnished w/ toast points. In my opinion there needs to be more pasta sauces. Pasta is good though. Capers add a nice touch to the pasta. Working here i was very happy with the the cooks. Chef Burt Lumpkin is a super nice guy w/ a nice twist on sea food. more

Better than others think 4/11/2006

Hilltop Grille deserves a better reputation than it has received on Judy's Book. The prices are a little high but the food is worth it. The service is pretty standard but can be a little slow sometimes. It is a great place to go for drinks after a hard day at work or in class. The atmosphere is very chill and relaxed. more

Overpriced 10/5/2005

I love the atmosphere at this place and I would like to visit more often but I find their portions small and overpriced and not really that good. Look elsewhere for a place to eat. more

Excuse not to go downtown for dinner 8/24/2005

The menu is a variety of chicken, fish, steak, pasta, etc.. I've tried everything from steak to chicken to salads, not impressed with any of it. The wait staff wasn't anything to write home about either. Atmosphere wise, Hilltop is full of UGA memorabilia mixed with rustic flare. The only reason for me to go to Hilltop is not wanting to fight the crowds and parking of downtown and other Athens areas. more

Not my Top choice for restaurants 8/7/2005

The Hilltop Grille opened around the time I moved to Athens in 2002. After that time I heard several people rant and rave about the place so finally, in November of 2004, I gave the place a shot. I ordered the Pan Seared Crab Cake, being a huge seafood lover. It was mediocre at best (though I have a very picky taste in seafood, being from Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay.) The ambiance of the place was very warm and relaxing with dark wood furniture and lots of Athens paraphernalia. They also have a wide selection of wines and beers. more
