The Blue Mountain Health System offers Health Works, a medically-supervised fitness center that is open to the public. The center is staffed by a registered nurse, exercise physiologists, personal trainers, office clerks, and childcare workers.
Every member is offered a health assessment to determine special exercise needs and a one-on-one orientation to the equipment in the center. A qualified staff member will recommend a starting exercise program based on the evaluation. Individual personal training is available with certified personal trainers.
In a medically-supervised fitness center, members who have health limitations have the confidence that they will be instructed on how to exercise safely in spite of health conditions. Exercise programs are designed for the healthy population as well as those with heart and lung disease, diabetes, arthritis, and other physical limitations. All staff are CPR and AED certified. They are trained to check blood pressures, pulse rates and oxygen saturations.
The Health Works fitness center offers the most advanced exercise equipment for both aerobic exercise and strength training. Joining Health Works gives members the benefit of exercising at either center. Healthworks in Lehighton offers group classes such as a variety of level aerobics, yoga, pilates and belly dancing. Members of either center can take advantage of the classes for a minimal fee. In addition, both centers offer locker rooms with private showers, changing areas and supervised childcare.
