Amazing care! 7/27/2010

When we brought home our new Siberian Husky (from a woman who placed the 5-year old dog on Craigslist) we had no idea what we were in for with him. About a month after we got him (I know, I should have taken him to the vet immediately--just to check him out) he started having problems getting up. He would whimper whenever he would stand. We took him to Dr. Freedman, who diagnosed him having Lyme Disease and Heartworm! Poor guy lived on a porch in the woods of Western Mass. So, we immediately started treatment for the Lyme disease, and later for the heartworm. Later on we moved into a house that we are slowly renovating. As anyone who has ever had a Sibe will tell you, they are very smart and very sneaky. He ended up getting into a room that had lead paint chips--and he ate them! Back to Dr. Freedman's office we went. The pup was on the brink of death. It was heart-breaking. Dr. Freedman saved the day--again! It is not common for a dog to get lead poisoning (most people are more

True Champions 6/3/2010

I have been taking my labs (a total of 4 throughout the years) to Hawthorne Animal Healthcare since I moved to Salem in 1987. Dr. Freedman and his staff have shown nothing but professionalism, compassion and a great love of all animals. One of our labs was diagnosed with oral cancer at age 11. We decided to go with Dr. Thomas' holistic approach. To our suprise and delight she lived an additional 3 1/2 years and to the ripe old age of 14 1/2 which is amazing for a lab. I would never think of going to another practice. They are great! more

MY HERO 4/30/2010

You always hear of tragic accidents, never thinking anything would happen to your pet- unfortunately something did happen to mine. When i found my cat pumpkin on my deck i knew something was terribly wrong. I immediately brought him to Hawthorne Animal Hospital. The care he got there was amazing. Everyone was so kind and supportive. They always kept me up to date on his progress and took the time to explain fully his condition with professionalism and compassion. pumpkin is home now and doing well thanks to Hawthorne Animal Hospital. I am forever greatful ! more

The best - a compassionate and knowledgeable practice 6/9/2009

I took my cat there after another vet told me to put him to sleep because of urinary problems. He was a year old. Dr. Freedman saved his life - and he is now 11 years old and very healthy!\r \r I always feel as though my pets are loved by the staff - when I lost an elderly dog to cancer, the staff mourned with me. I received condolence cards, even from the vets who had only met the dog once.\r \r I have never met anyone who has had a bad experience there so of course I am surprised to see the negative feedback shown here. more

Misdiagnosed 4/25/2009

I just brought a cat in there. I knew more than a allergy and put her on allergy pills .I did not have good feeling so went to Altantic Veterinary hospital in Marblehead She had virus and was put on antibiotics . Which Dr Thomas would not give her I even asked about giving her and was told does not need any .Well the cat showed improvement within 3 hours after the new vet Other than Dr Freedman the other vets know nothing and I have gone to them all at different times more

Caring and Nurturing Vets 3/31/2008

The entire staff at Hawthorne is not only extremely knowledgeable but compassionate and caring. Dr. Freedman and the staff have helped us through an extremely difficult time with our dog who has kidney failure. Their philosophy of taking a wholistic view of life and quality of life has helped us immensly in watching over our dog. We've even been called after hours in the evenings if we had question or concern. Dr Freedman has been there for our family in a hard time and anyone would be lucky to have their pets looked after by this group. more

Misdiagnosed cancer 3/5/2008

I'm writing this to warn you NOT to go to this clinic. They misdiagnosed my dog several months ago with Lyme Disease when she really had lymphoma. It was probably the early stage then, but when I look through information about it now, it seems so apparent that she had the beginning stages of cancer. I actually asked the vet at the time to test for cancer, which she stated she did. I got a call the next day from her saying that the test came back negative..well, no test was ever done. Now my dog is in the late stages of lymphoma. If we caught it back then, there would have been a 90% likelihood that she would have gone into total remission. I would be very wary going there. more

Simply The Best 10/25/2006

I brought my extremely tempermental and high strung dog to Hawthorne animal hospital and they were great. They have several different doctors that specialize in several different areas and types of treatment. They were so kind after the surgery they even called to see how my dog was doing. And with regards to their staff they have the absolute best techs and doctors I've ever met. They only have the best interest of the animal in mind at all times. In addition, to the vets I've been to in the past (and there were a lot as I'm picky about who handles my dog and how they treat him)the prices are extremely reasonable for the level of care given to the animals! That makes an owner feel great that you can afford to give your dog the best care without going broke. PROS: EVERYTHING!! CONS: NONE more

Dr Rotner 7/12/2006

I couldn't have asked for better care for my dog. 2 years ago I adopted a 2 year old beagle rescue w/ some medical problems. A few months later Jake re-injured a slipped disk in his neck. He couldn't walk or play and we went to several vets and a neurologist. I thought surgery was the only way to save him. The neurologist explained the difficult surgery and recommended acupuncture. We have gone to Dr. Kim Rotner since for Jake's acupunture and now she is his vet too. She is wonderful and he loves her. He has a great and healthy life. He loves his walks and loves to play and loves attention! She and acupunture helped him have a normal happy healthy life. I'm not sure if he even needs the acupunture anymore, however, I will take him for the rest of his life. He enjoys going there and everytime we get out of the car he runs to the door. When we get inside he can't wait to see Dr Rotner so he goes to her office door!!!!!!! We have another rescue puppy we adopted a few months more

Overmedicated my cat 9/23/2005

The folks at Hawthorne Animal Hospital are very kind, and they are well-known for administering homeopathic treatments. Unfortunately, when I brought my cat with a thyroid problem there for treatment, the vet put her on a very high dose of tapezol and she became extremely sick. Perhaps this was an isolated incident, but it made me feel very uncomfortable about going back. more
