I first went to Hash about 6 months ago and judging by the prices on the menu (expensive for breakfast), I was expecting the portions to be fairly large. I ordered the vegetarian eggs benedict, and although it tasted good, it was very small and didn't fill me up. If I remember correctly, it cost something like $12 or $13. My husband and I only decided to give Hash another try because they were featured on Groupon (coupon site), so we got a discounted meal. It was much worse that we had remembered. It took over an hour to get a table at noon on a Sunday, even though we told them that we were okay sitting anywhere, including at the bar. For a while there were several tables and spots open at the bar that were clean and unoccupied, but people were not seated. Finally we got seated and I ordered some Danish pancakes. They were about $9, not too expensive, and I also ordered an egg cooked over-hard and a coffee. The coffee took awhile, and once I finished it, I waited for someone to come and refill it, but nobody did. Finally I asked someone to refill it, and he looked at me like I was asking the world of him, but grudgingly refilled it. Finally our food came after a long wait, and I was served a tiny plate of five ""pancakes,"" which in reality were like little filled pancake balls, about 2 inches in diameter. They were okay, but I was left hungry and glad that I had ordered an egg as well. When the egg I had ordered came, it was the most ridiculously cooked egg I had ever seen, more overcooked than you might get at a truck stop. It must have been left on the grill for a good 20 minutes, because it was rock hard and crispy, yet they decided to serve it anyway. The server came and offered to replace it, and the replacement egg was correctly cooked.
My husband and I left thinking to ourselves that we would not come to Hash again, as the wait for a table was ridiculous, the portions tiny, and the food expensive and not worth the price or the wait.
Pros: Decent food, hip place
Cons: Long wait for table, slow service, small portions, expensive
